I always thought that Nokocchi (Dunsparce) should've been Ground/Dragon instead of Normal. It lives underground, so the Ground-type would've suited it. And it's based on the tsuchinoko yokai, which could easily pass for a dragon of some sort, so I always wondered by Game Freak never thought of making it half Dragon-type at most as a way of giving Dragon-types more representation in Gen II.

How about Poison/Ground? We... didn't get more of these since... Nidoqueen and Nidoking from Gen 1.

Considering how many Poison-types we already had in Gens I and II, I wouldn't see the point of the species being half Poison-type. Speaking of type retcons though, I wish that Arbok had turned into half a Dark-type starting in Gen II.

Normal/Ground would've worked well. Speaking of which....

Hoopsparce, the Land Snake Pokemon
Type-Normal/Ground
Ability-Serene Grace/Poison Point(normal), Rattled(Hidden Ability)
Evolution: Dunsparce-Use Sweet Juice(Sake in Japanese) to heal if Lv 30 or higher. Sweet Juice is a healing item that is a Full Restore and is only 500 Pokedollars, but it comes with the caveat of causing confusion. Basically Pokemon is sneaking an alchohol reference
Basis: The evolutionary method reflects how the tsuchinko has a taste for alcohol. The "hoop" comes from the legends of the tsuchinko being able to roll itself in a hoop

Regional Variant Dunsparce and Ourosparce, the Rare Snake Pokemon
Type-Poison/Normal(Variant Dunsparce), Poison/Dragon(Ourosparce)
Ability-Run Away(Variant Dunsprace), Levitate(Ourosparce)
Evolution: Variant Dunsparce-Poison Stone-Ourosparce
Basis: This regional variant takes the tsuchinko's more venomous qualities in consideration, and grows its wings to become capable of flight. Ourosparce also reflects the hoop, but with swallowing its own tail it's a naming nod to the ouroboros

Also, here is an updated list of what Hidden Abilities I would add to those without one, and my reasoning on why

Legendary Pokemon
  • Latias and Latios: Illusion. Their Pokedex entry states that these Pokemon are capable of refracting light to become invisible, and in various canons they can disguise themselves as humans
  • Lake Guardians: Sychronize. As Pokemon who represent spirit, this feels more appropriate to their character than Levitate
  • Cresselia: Good Dreams. Should've gotten its signature ability to match Darkrai. Good Dreams means that if the user or their allies is put to sleep while on the field, they will automatically be healed to full health. Basically a trap Rest
  • Musketeer Quartet: Swordmaster. Boosts blade-based moves, reflecting their use of Sacred Sword, and blade moves thanks to their horn

Mythical Pokemon
  • Mew: Protean. To make perfect use of its very versatile potential moveset
  • Celebi: Grassy Surge. It guards the forest, this empowers Grass types
  • Deoxys: Clear Body. Its forms are stat-related, so the ability to not have stats lowered would fit
  • Phione and Manaphy: Synchronize and Magic Bounce. Manaphy has the power to swap people's spirits, so I played with it swapping conditions. Phione, being the juvenile Manaphy, has the inferior but similar Synchronize
  • Shaymin: Immunity(Land), Poison Heal(Sky). It absorbs toxins from the environment and makes things safer, that's what is behind Seed Flare. So I thought these similar, but again more advanced form for the more powerful form would work
  • Meloetta: Basically Punk Rock, except named something different
  • Genesect: Mega Launcher. I mean, just look at the cannon on its back!
  • Diancie: Weak Armor. Diamonds are fragile yet hard...no, I still can't tell the difference!
  • Volcanion: Steam Engine because it's blindingly obvious
  • Marshadow: Well it is a living shadow, so Shadow Tag seems obvious
  • Meltan and Melmetal: Ferrovore. Because this line eats metal to grow itself, the ability would attract Steel type moves which buff up this Pokemon's defense stat instead of harming it

Right now there's a lot of conceptual and battle overlap between the Ghost and Dark types. Even though Ghost is more focused on spirits and the supernatural and Dark (Evil) is more about brutality and deceit, they both have overlap when it comes to the themes of darkness/fear and both are super-effective against Psychic and Ghost types. When you think of darkness/shadow based moves, do you think of Ghost or Dark type more? Any ideas for how the two types could be made more distinct?

  • Sandstorm=Ground

I always thought Dark types were more about sneak attacks and backstabbing while Ghost types are ghoulish and intangible.

I don't have a big problem with how Gamefreak have treated either type but maybe they should've had all Ghost attacks be Special and all Dark attacks be Physical?

Deserust and Starvest, the Barren and Hunger Pokemon
Type-Bug/Ground
Ability-Sand Stream/Sap Sipper(normal), Solar Power(Hidden)
Evolution: Deserust-Lv 28-Starvest
Egg group-Bug
Pokedex entry
  • "Deserust are named for the end result of their feeding. They devour crops en masse, turning once fertile fields into badlands and deserts"
  • "Starvest typically travel in swarms upwards of a million, depopulating entire forests of their food. Legend calls them "The Desert Spirit" for the deserts their feedings create"
Name basis: Desert+Locust, Starve+harvest
Basis: This line based on the locusts, the ground part comes from the dry and empty lands their feeding create

Sinnoan Slakoth and Megasloth
Type-Ground/Ice(Slakoth), Ground/Fighting(Megasloth)
Ability-Ice Boy/Slush Rush(Sinnoan Slakoth), Refrigerate(Sinnoan Slakoth Hidden Ability), Vital Spirit/Tough Claws(normal Megasloth), Sap Sipper(Hidden Ability Megasloth)
Evolution: Sinnoan Slakoth-Learn Ancientpower at Lv 40-Megasloth
BST: 510(80 HP, 130 Atk, 80 Def, 45 Sp Atk, 45 Sp Def, 130 Speed)
Pokedex entry
  • "This breed of Slakoth were once thought extinct, however frozen Slakoth reanimated themselves from over 10,000 years of slumber. Though slow, they aren't nearly as lazy as their modern Hoenn cousins"
  • "Megasloth can tear down even the thickest of tree trunks with a single swipe of their claw. Their assumed extinction came from overhunting by the first settlers of the Sinnoh region"
Name basis: Mega+Sloth
Basis: This variant is based off the giant ground sloth of prehistory.

Captain Jigglypuff

Leader of Jigglypuff Army
New moves:

G-Max Doomsday
Dark
Description: G-Max signature move for Houndoom. Doomsday has Houndoom gathering dark energy into a large orb that continues to grow inside its open mouth and then Houndoom launches the energy ball. In Max Raid Den battles, this hits your entire side. After dealing damage the following effects happen at random: Cause Burn, Paralysis, Confusion, Badly Poisoning, or Flinching.

G-Max Crushing Blow
Normal
Signature G-Max move of Regigigas. Crushing Blow ignores Abilities and protection moves and can hit Ghost Pokémon. Regigigas throws a devastating punch that drastically lowers your team’s Speed and may induce flinching.

I’d probably eliminate immunities. Making certain moves weak against certain types is ok, but making one type completely immune from another goes too far.

Strongly disagree. None of þe eight type immunities (Ps<Da, Gn<Fl, Ft<Gh, No<Gh, Dg<Fa, Po<St, El<Gn, Gh<No) are super overpowered and receiving many fan complaints, and I'd say þey actually act as effective counters against many frequently-used attacking types, like Ground, Fighting, Psychic, and Normal.

New Weather

Acid Rain
Type-Poison
Effect: Boosts the special attack of Poison types on the field. Pokemon that are not Poison or Steel type will be poisoned if they come out in the Acid Rain

Scary Storm
Type-Ghost
Effect: Boosts the special attack of Ghost types, and physical attack of Dark types. Moves are more likely to cause flinching on Pokemon who are not Ghost or Dark types

Thunder Storm

More Regis

Regispectre, the Extinct Pokemon
Type-Ghost(normal), Ghost/Dark(Grudge Mode)
Ability-Looming(physical contact with this Pokemon turns the opponent into a pure Ghost type)
Signature move: Grudge Match. A Dark/Status, 5 PP move that functions the same way as Protect. However it also shifts Regispectre into its Grudge Mode
Pokedex entry:
  • "The first creation of Regigigas, who was meant to be a physical manifestation of Infinite Energy. However it was unstable and thought long since destroyed. However its spirit remained, haunting the Earth for millions of years"
  • "Abandoned in an era long before humanity existed, Regispectre is consumed by wrath and seeks vengeance on its maker. The spirits of long extinct creatures howl during the Pokemon's grudge match"
BST-670
Basis: This Regi is meant to represent extinct species, and past paleontological eras. It is the lost child, the grudgeful relic of prehistory left behind by its maker

Regidrago(Complete Forme)
Type-Dragon/Dark
Ability-Dragon Maw
Held item needed: Draco Diamond
BST-700
Basis: This is a form I imagine we'll see in the DP remakes. Basically it's what a completed Regidrago might look like, with enough crystallized dragon energy

Regifey, the Knightly Pokemon
Type-Fairy(base), Fairy/Fighting(Armored)
Ability-Heroic(the user's Fairy and Fighting moves do twice as much damage towards Dark types)
Held item for Armored Form: Chivalric Armor

  • "Regifey was created to be a protector and knight, taking out the darkest of foes with a swift stroke of the blade. Its body is constructed with a magical, fey energy"
  • "The Chivalric Armor was crafted because of the terrible potential a completed form of Regidrago would have.
BST-580(normal), 670(Hidden)
Basis: This Regi is the honorable knight. It represents the medieval period, the time of chivalry and such

Regisea, the Sail Pokemon
Type-Water
Ability-Sails(normal), Pickpocket(Hidden). Sails boosts the user's speed in any storm-based weather. This includes Fierce Storm, Dragon Storm, Scary Storm and Thunder Storm. It also makes them exempt from any negative effect of a Storm
Pokedex entry: "A relatively recent legendary titan, who aided people in traversing the seas. Locked up by an enemy nation, it can swim at 90 miles per hour and carry an entire tanker"
Basis: This Regi is based of the Age of the Sail. Its HA references pirates

Regieleki(Unbound Forme)
Type-Electric
Ability-Transistor
Held item needed: Anti-Fuse
BST-700
Basis: What Regieleki might be like without its resistor, truly living up to it being the most powerful Electric type

Regipsi, the Astro Pokemon
Type-Psychic
Ability-Levitate(normal), Damp(Hidden)
Pokedex entry: "Regipsi was first found in an abandoned government base, kept top secret for 70 years. It is capable of travelling to space and back, where it uses its psionic powers to stop invaders"
Basis: Regipsi is based on the Space Age. Its HA of preventing self-destruct and explosions is a sneaky reference to atomic bombs

Spoopy Regional Variants

Variant Oddish and Radrishake
Type-Ghost/Poison
Ability-Poison Touch(Oddish), Wailing(Radrishake). Wailing converts sound-based moves to Ghost type, and they have a chance of causing confusion
Evolution: Oddish-Lv 35 at night-Maldrake
Pokedex entry
  • "If you hear a terrible screaming like nails on a chalkboard, don't be afraid. It is a special Oddish, punishing whoever dares pull it out of the ground"
  • "Radrishake" leaves were used to create curses and poisons centuries ago. The shriek of a Mandrake can fell even a deaf man a hundred feet away"
Note: BST is the same as Vileplume and Bellossom, though the stats are organized differently
Basis: The legend of the mandrake, more applied to this line. Referencing the "drake" part, this line can learn a fair amount of Dragon type moves
Name basis: Radish+Mandrake

Variant Chimecho and Chimourne, Regular Chimecho and Chimerry
Type-Psychic(Chimerry), Ghost(Variant Chimecho), Psychic/Flying(Chimerry) and Ghost/Flying(Chimourne)
Ability-Levitate(both Chimecho), Sails(Chimourne), Ringing Tone(Chimerry). Ringing Tone means that sound-based moves boost the attack of the user instead of harming them, and are drawn to them
Evolution(normal): Chingling-Max Friendship at night-Chimecho-Trade while holding the Golden Bell-Chimerry. The Golden Bell is a held item that boosts the power of sound-based moves
Evolution(Variant): Chingling-Max Friendship at night-Chimecho-Learn Ghostly Wail at Lv 35-Chimourne. This a Ghost type sound-based move learnable by usually spooky Pokemon
Pokedex entry
  • "The [TBA] Region's increased focus on spiritualism has resulted in Chimecho becoming a ward of the departed. It sings a sad melody that attracts souls to it"
  • "The sweet chiming of Chimerry wards off evil spirits and other malcontents. The screeching chiming of Chimerry is a warning of a serious storm on it's way"
  • "Chimourne were named because they are often found at gravesites, and their chiming sounds like crying and mourning. In reality it is a ceremonial sound that Chimourne make when jubilant, celebrating the lives of the lost"
Basis: The Ghost type for the variant ties into how the type of chime they're based off shinto shrines. The addage of Flying type is well, how chimes are often associated with wind
Name basis: Chime+mourn, Chime+merry

Variant Honedge, Chivally and Excaligard
Type-Fighting/Ghost
Ability-Swordmaster(sword and blade-related moves are increased in power)
Evolution: Honedge-Lv 35-Learn Shadow Sword at Lv 45-Excaligard. Shadow Sword is its signature that is a Ghost type variant on Sacred Sword, but it also locks opponents in

  • "Once fertile plains become dry and arid when Whirvil is done with them. As if that wasn't enough, they devour crops and livestock en masse, leaving hungry bellies behind"

Name basis: Storm+demon, Whirlwind+devil

Natraalak, Nachamander, and Salinard

Evolution:
Egg group: Water 1/Mineral

Pokedex entry

Agreed... Magnemite and Magneton got the Steel type, so it would have been adequate that at least ONE Kanto Pokémon get the Dark type.

Fossil Concepts

Haunted Fossils: Inspired by the Dreepy line. These Pokemon became spirits lingering onto their fossils. As such they are Ghost types

Young Fossils: Compared to "Standard Fossils" (that is the one you're used to), Young Fossils are fossils who give out Ground type ancient Pokemon. These are based off extinct animals from the Paleogene and Neogene era, while fossil Pokemon up to this point are modeled after animals from before the K-T extinction. Their Ground typing is explained as it's revealed the reason why fossil Pokemon are Rock type is because their rock attributes let them be preserved as long as they are to resurrect with fossil revival, at least those publicly available. The softer but still similar Ground types who became fossils can be reanimated due to comparative youthfulness

Pokecicles: Not a true fossil, but similar concept. These are great big blocks of ice with Pokemon preserved in them, based off animals and other life from the Ice Age. It's explained that because of their Ice typing, they're able to be resurrected. You can actually find Mamoswine in the "Basic Pokecicle", reflecting how frozen mammoths have been found in the ice, but of course there are other animals like the smilodon that haven't become fossils

Future Fossils: Time travel experiments with odd artifacts, connected to Dialga, bring Pokemon from millions of years into the future to the present. They are Psychic type and based on speculative evolution

Ancient Pokemon Variation

Sinnoan Dreepy line
Type-Dragon/Water
Ability-Infiltrator/Rock Head(normal), Speed Boost(Hidden)
Evolution-Unchanged
Note: The Dreepy line variation comes from how the lore has this be an extinct species that reanimated. Sinnoan Dreepy play on the idea that in this region with ancient lore tied to it(which is why I hope we might get them in Gen 4 remakes), and the animal they're based on is mostly aquatic

Sinnoan Kabuto and Kaburai
Type-Bug/Water(Kabuto), Bug/Fighting(Kaburai)
Ability-Swift Swim(normal), Swordsmaster(Kaburai, means their slash and blade based moves are increased in power), Sturdy(Hidden)
Evolution-Unchanged
Note: Kaburai takes after the samurai more so. Their presence is due to the fact that while rare, horseshoe crabs(part of the inspiration) aren't extinct

Sinnoan Lileep line
Type-Water/Gras
Ability and evolution-Unchanged
Note: Sea lillies are rare, but not extinct yet

Regigigas(Awakened Forms)
Type-Normal/Fighting(base), Ice/Fighting(Awakened Freeze), Rock/Fighting(Awakened Stone), Steel/Fighting(Awakened Metal), Electric/Fighting(Awakened Thunder), Dragon/Fighting(Awakened Dragon)
Ability-Royal Crest(the user gains 50% attack bonus on a type depending on what Royal Item it holds)
Key item: Royal Decree(changes Regigigas' ability to Royal Crest). Requires to demonstrate the five Regis
Items: Royal Icicle/Stone/Ore/Bolt/Maw(if held by a Pokemon with Royal Crest, the user's primary typing and Normal-type moves change to Ice/Rock/Steel/Electric/Dragon type)
Note: This is Regigigas awakened, using the power of its offspring

Ultimate Regidrago
Type-Dragon/Dark
Ability-Dragon Maw
Held item: Ultimax Crystal
BST: 700(200 HP, 150 Atk, 50 Def, 150 Sp Atk, 50 Sp Def, 100 Speed)
Note: This is the idea of a completed Regidrago

Regional Variants

Helecian Absol
Type-Ghost/Psychic
Ability-Forewarn/Frisk(normal), Trace(Hidden)
Pokedex entry: "Thought extinct in Helecia, and in a sense is. These Absol were hunted down out of paranoia for their predictions of disasters, being seen as a terrible omen"
Basis: Helecian Absol takes inspiration both from oracles, but also from witchburning and paranoia of it
Region basis: Greece

Fakemon

Quanteow, The Superposition Pokemon
Type-Normal/Ghost(Thriving Form), Ghost/Normal(Unsightly Form)
Ability-Uncertainty Principle. This ability means the Pokemon shifts from its Thriving Form to Unsightly Form, which shifts its stats as well, at the end of each term. Even which form you first encounter is a 50/50 chance. This ability cannot be copied or used by any other Pokemon. It cannot be altered unless affected by a move of the Pokemon itself
Gender ratio-50/50
Egg group-Undiscovered. It isn't a legendary, but given the paradoxical nature of Schrodinger's Cat(like being alive and dead simultaneously) it's hard to think of this thing as breedable
Stat distribution: High physical stats, low special stats(Thriving Form), low physical stats, high physical stats(Unsightly Form), decent speed, medium HP(both)
Pokedex entry
  • Thriving Form: "Quanteow seems to exist between and within different timelines. It always carries a coy and knowing smile"
  • Unsightly Form: "Quanteow vanishes and re-appears piece by piece, existing in both the living and spirit world. Or neither. No-one really understands its existence"
Name: Quantum+Meow
Basis: As mentioned, the Schrodinger's Cat, hence its "dead and alive" typing and ability. However it also pulls inspiration from the Chesire Cat
Signature moves
  • Observation Shield: A Normal type status move, Observation Shield is a Protect move which replaces the user's ability with Clear Body, grounding it in its current form.
  • Paradoxical Assault: A Normal type special move that has the same power as Flying Press. It also is both Normal and Ghost type simultaneously
  • All or Nothing: A Ghost type physical move. It functions as a OHKO move, but with a twist. Rather than accuracy, you effectively flip a coin. There is a 50% chance that this move will in fact knock out the opponent. However there is a 50% chance that it will knock out the user instead
New moves featured on this Pokemon(not a signature)
  • Spirit Shifting: A Ghost type special move that has the same power as Psyshock. It also does physical damage
  • Multitask Hit: A Normal type physical move that has the same power as Psyshock. It also does special damage

Batten Down- Water-10PP(status) Increases special Defence and Defence by 1 stage.

Dex Entry 2- Galarian Chatot are much more dishonest and not above playing tricks or theft. Some have mastered water and as such in recent times it is treated more heroically

Appearance- Resembles Chatot but with Pirate Features. Feathers look like it is wearing a pirate outfit. Instead of a note its head looks like it is wearing a pirate's hat.

Kinda wished that these were in SwSh:
  1. Drum Practice; a street musician in Galar asks the trainer for some drum practice, with a rhythm game. Grookey has the minigame on Easy, Thwackey on Medium and Rillaboom on Hard.
  2. Goal tending Practice; a "European" Soccer goal tender wants to test your Scorbunny, Raboot or Cinderace and its kicking skills.
  3. Target Practice; another trainer wants to see your Sobble, Drizzile or Inteleon to some target practice using water bullets.

I kind of hope we get some more ultra beasts in þe future, as it's a really interesting concept wiþ infinite potential. Here are my two favorite self-made ideas for Ultra Beasts and a version-exclusive pair

Teslamp (Tesla+Lamp+Amp)
The COLD ENERGY Pokémon
Type: Ice/Electric
Ability: Beast Boost
Gender Ratio: Genderless
Egg Group: Undiscovered
Height: 12'02 (3.7 m)
Weight: 531 lbs (241 kg)
Appearance: Looks sort of like a tall bending street light/length of wire though with 4 short, spider-like legs at the bottom, one glowing white snowball-like head, and four whitish-yellow orbs rotating around its upper body similarly to arms or Probopass's extra heads.
Dex Entry: "Coming from a dimension with nearly no heat, Teslamp somehow derives energy from the cold. It was seen freezing everything in the vicinity in order to feed."
Ultra Area: The Ultra Orb, a large 3D snowball with a simple maze of snow walls leading to an area with Teslamp. Off in the distance, hundreds of other similar snowballs can be seen, all of them orbiting one massive pole greatly resembling Teslamp's body...
Stats: High sp. atk. and extremely high sp. def., but really low HP and ph. atk.
Moveset (upon encountering): Lock-On/Calm Mind/Zap Cannon/Sheer Cold

Thuntacle (Thunder+Tentacle)
The THUNDERSTORM Pokémon
Type: Water/Electric
Ability: Beast Boost
Gender Ratio: Genderless
Egg Group: Undiscovered
Height: 7'03 (2.2 m)
Weight: 267 lbs (121 kg)
Appearance: A blue 6-legged cephalopod with wiring/tesla coil motifs around the ends of its tentacles, as well as a large, bulbous head possessing a spiky beard-like mane and massive turquoise sclera
Dex Entry: "It needs constant exposure to rain to stay healthy. In dry environments, they link tentacles and begin pumping a mysterious energy into the atmosphere, ensuring quick storms."
Ultra Area: The Ultra Spire, a rocky spire towering over a seemingly-infinite ocean while a fierce thunderstorm rages, with several breakable rock barriers as the player traverses the spiral path. In a room/cave at the top, Thuntacle can be encountered, the storm outside briefly worsening and darkening before battle. After the battle, the storm greatly lightens, though many similar spires can be seen scattered about the surroundings.
Stats: Extremely high HP, super low speed, pretty good other stats
Moveset (upon encountering): Rain Dance/Thunder/Waterfall/Thrash

The series could use several new powerful Physical Fairy moves, outside of Play Rough, which both cannot learn, and Spirit Break, which is Grimmsnarl's signature Fairy move. Seriously, Tapu Koko and Tapu Bulu could use two or more such moves.

What,s a little strange is that Hatterene and Alcremie are Special Attackers, but noth of their G-Max moves are Physical...
