Backstory

You’ve have all heard of the stories that say Clefairies came from the moon, have you not? Well, what if I told you, that was more or less the case for all pocket monsters.

Pokemon, hundreds of thousands of years ago, had a home world, all to themselves. The common pokemon lived peaceful with both each other and the ones we know, today, as gods. They were unified as an entire planet, though they had many separately governed countries. They were technologically advanced; even by our modern standards. Everything was as close to perfect as they come.

Until the day the skies turned red.

An alien race, simply known as the Shadows, invaded. They came by riding on asteroids that harmlessly crashed on the surface of the planet. They quickly took control over most of the planet—it was not a violent take-over either.

The Shadows are a species that lack a truly solid body. They resemble smoke more than a truly living thing. They’re a symbiotic species; they entered the bodies of Pokemon and corrupted their souls.

When Arceus finally gave up hope for rescuing their planet from the clutches of the Shadows, and gave the call for a full-planet evacuation. Palkia and Dialga searched the galaxies to find a planet capable of sustaining the remaining population. All the twin gods found was a planet already inhabited by a strange species called Humans.

After hearing the poor creatures’ pleas for sanctuary, the early humans agreed to share their planet with the homeless monsters. The gods gathered their remaining followers and Lady Palkia strained herself to transport them to the far-off planet Earth.

Still, to this day, no one knew why the Shadows wanted to takeover the Pokemon home world so badly when there was an uninhabited, but sustainable planet in the same system.

The pocket monsters decided not to question what they barely escaped from, and take their new home as a blessing. But they quickly realize what sacrifices they would have to make for their new homeland.

Arceus looked through the Human’s history and saw that though they usually have good intentions, in action they have shown that they’re not the best at sharing. Arceus knew that having two sentient species on one world would only lead to more war. They had one very costly decision to make in order to protect both themselves and the humans that had put them up out of the kindness of their hearts.

Everywhere, Pokemon began to approach the humans; each saying the same thing.

“We Pokemon will be ready to help humans always. But, if you bare your sword to bring harm upon us, with claws and fangs, we will exact a toll. From your kind we will take our toll, for it must be done to guard ourselves, and for it, I apologize.”

To that, the humans replied:
“Why, oh creature from the stars, do you tell us this? You speak as though we will never communicate again.”

With that, the Pokemon said nothing. They turned their heads and went into the tall grass and lakes. Never to be heard speaking a language that could be understood by humans again. Pokemon never revealed the secret to their advanced technology, for fear that it was the reason the Shadows invaded in the first place. To spare their new comrades their fate, they took on the roles of simple animals.

Over the years, humans simply forgot how intelligent the Pokemon originally were, but they never forgot all the wonderful stories they told of life on their old world. Eventually, they adopted their tales as their own mythology and their gods as their own. This only strengthened the bond the two species shared.

But Pokemon still had concerns that they would be needed as more than just the beasts of the land. An organization was created in secret by pokemon who swore to always remain wild. They used the technology they saved from their home world and used it to create hidden bases and even cities disguised as impassable mountain ranges or in the deepest recesses of lakes and oceans.

They called themselves Arceus’ Defence Force, or ADF for short. In short, their job was to protect Earth from any and all internal or external threats that the humans couldn’t handle, but kept it in secret. Recently though, they’ve been concerned with a great threat coming from the humans themselves; Shadow Pokemon. Humans somehow got their hands on samples of the Shadows and infected certain pokemon with them. True, it made them strong, but they lost their humanity in exchange. The ADF made it their top priority to create a Shadow “Vaccine”. They created a process in which Shadows could be expelled from living beings if they’ve been hit with a new attack they’ve developed called “Purge”. [Type: Always STAB. Category: Status/Special. Attack: -- Accuracy: 40] The last word was that all Pokemon had built up an immunity since the move’s development, but since the tale of the invasion was passed on generation to generation, many are still vigilant in guarding against the Shadows… For the Humans’ sake.

Plot:

Another perfect day in Lilycove; sun was shining, Wingulls lazily glided on the thermals and Wailmers frolicked in the bay. Gyms and contest halls were closed and trainers all over the world were taking the day off. A meteor shower was expected later that night and everyone was in anticipation. Even wild pokemon appeared to be getting into the perfect spot to watch the great event.

A 13 year old trainer with a Pikachu perched on his shoulder reclined on the beach. Still afternoon, but the stars were already falling, but only visible in a different time zone. Unova was already watching the spectacle, and he boy couldn’t help but feel a bit cheated since he just came from Unova to compete in the Hoenn Frontier.

Pikachu’s ears perked up and the thunder mouse jumped off the boy’s shoulder. It sparked electricity from its cheeks as it stared into the distant sky. The boy looked into that direction too, but saw nothing. All of a sudden, red spilled into the clear blue sky coming towards them. It wasn’t like the orange-red of sunset, but more like the crimson of blood. An object streamed across the sky, straight at the young trainer. His partner acted quickly and used its Iron Tail to knock the meteor from striking the boy.

“Thanks Pikachu! What is that?” the boy said as he approached the smoldering rock. The Pikachu began tugging at his pant leg, begging him not to go close. All of a sudden, black smoke-like energy poured from the rock. The electric mouse flinched, expecting to be engulfed by the excreted beings. But he wasn’t. His partner was. The trainer’s eye, usually so bright and full of optimism, were now dark red and filled with nothing but contempt. He grabbed the Pikachu by the ear.

“It took us a long time to find you once again, Pocket Monster.” He chuckled darkly.

“Piiikaa [But… You have our homeworld! What else do you want?!]” Pikachu squeaked in pain as the boy’s grip increased.

“Did you really think beings such as the Shadows would have requirement of simple territory?!” He threw the electric mouse further up the beach and shouted after him “Go to your masters! Give them fair warning that the Shadows have come!”
The scene pauses as a Mienfoo clicked on the remote in her hand.

“Mieien Fuu [Scenes like this have appeared all over the planet, captain.]” she spoke with great concern.

An Alakazam slumped over the table that projected the scene as a hologram. He thought out his plan carefully.

“Alazam kazam [Alert the high council-- If I’m right, our time as simple-minded beasts is drawing to a close.]”

[4 hours later]

“Attention all ADF members: After delegations between both the High Council and the Hall of Origin Assembly, emergency protocol Omega has been authorized. The following changes have been put into effect;

“Firstly; In order to ensure the safety of both humans and Pokemon, the Language Barrier Curse has been terminated. Fully expect any humans you come in contact with to react erratically to any communications.

“Secondly, the Four Move Set Limiter has been eradicated in order to ensure full battle efficiency.

“Lastly, all AFD members must learn Purge and all ADF bases must be accessible to humans. That is all.”

Speakers echoed this message through every ADF base and communicator. Several dozen humans had already been rescued before they became exposed to the Shadows, but there have been some strange cases. Certain humans that already had been possessed by a Shadow were trainers. Their pokemon partners became so desperate to get their human back they attempted using Purge on them. Not all humans survived this as when the Shadow left their body, it took their soul with them. But some humans had souls hardened enough by their bond with their pokemon, that not only did they survive, but they retained the power given to them by the Shadows.

These strange beings could not be called humans anymore, instead they’re affectionately called Silhouettes, or Sils for short. Sils have special powers, not unlike the abilities of pokemon, but with more variation per person. But they’re not completely trusted by all ADF members. There are most likely to turn into Shadows themselves.

It's only been three days since the meteor shower, and already the world had gone to hell.

Playable Characters:

Pokemon:
ADF Soldier: You have all the resources of the Arceus’ Defence Force behind you, meaning weapons, communications and back up. But this also means you have restraints such as the chain of command and the fact that your top priority is the humans’ safety, which can be a burden in combat.

Vigilante: Did you have nothing to do with the ADF before the skies turned red, or are you a pokemon whose trainer was taken away by the Shadows. Either way, you act outside of the ADF without their resources, but without their commands to slow you down. Are you seeking revenge, justice or do you just want your friends back?

Non-Pokemon
Silhouette: A being that was once human, but you can’t say that anymore. You were once trainers rescued by a pokemon you were connected with who dared to use Purge despite the risks. In the last 3 days in the meteor shower, you’ve had your whole world turned upside-down. Pokemon began to speak and you yourself have undergone a change. Your skin, hair, or eye colour may have undergone a severe change, or not. The one common change all Sils have, is that there is a pattern over one of their eyes that resembles a Star. You always work with the pokemon that saved you. For some reason, you lose control over your powers when they’re not around.

Humans: You’re a simple human, maybe even a trainer. Though you have no actually ‘powers’ like the Sils, you o have skills of your own. Even with your pokemon speaking the same language as you, they skill follow your commands as they did before. Some ADF officers think that teams like that are actually best in some situations. You are the more trusted than the Sils and have access to the advanced weapons they have.

Info on the Shadows

Since most of the actual files of the Shadows were destroyed millennia ago when pokemon came to Earth, the only information we have on our enemies is stories that passed down from grandparents to children.

What we do know, Shadows can only be harmed by direct sunlight, which is why they spread the red pigments into the atmosphere to block out the sun as they land in their meteors. Shadows appear to have a hive-mind, they have freely admitted they all follow under a single being. They have referred to their leader simply known as The Darkness. Any humans possessed by a Shadow have their eyes changed to a dark red, much like the sky and they refer to themselves in plural (We, Us etc) and any human possess is called a Darkling.

Important NPCs:

Arceus: Indirectly commands the ADF, no one but the High Council can meet with him or the other gods. He leads the council known as the Hall of Origin Assembly, or HOA for short.

Commander Mewtwo: He directly leads the ADF and meets with the HOA in times of crisis. He is banned from directly fighting in normal situations though, as years of training have left him so strong he will destroy an entire city if he attacks.

General Bladerunner [Blade for short]: A Bisharp that lost his trainer years ago to the original Shadow outbreak by Team Snaggem. He swore a personal vendetta against the Shadows since that day, and he’s not too trusting of Sils either. He’s the general that will command your sector of the ADF.

Captain Digger: A Garchomp that remained wild throughout his whole life. He always knew the kindness in peoples’ hearts and has grown strong and trustworthy because of this. While a previous battle has left his left eye damaged, he is reliable in a fight.

Rogue Trika: A raichu and the unofficial leader of the vigilante movement. She hates the ADF and finds that their commitment to the humans is getting into the way of Pokemon and their self-preservation as a species.

Name: Melody “Mel” McCloud
Codename: Decibel
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Description: Melody’s most prominent feature is her eyes; as her left is bright green, and her right is bright blue and her Sil symbol is a black star over her right eye. Mel is wearing the same clothes she wore since the beginning of the Red Skies. Her typical outfit is her usual white toque with a light blue pokeball symbol on the front. This hat covers her neck-length hair, once was black with dyed blue bangs, but now follows the same colour pattern as her eyes; left is green, right is blue. She is almost never seen without her silver iPod on her shoulder and her wireless black headphones around her neck. She wears a short sleeved black jacket with blue trim on the sleeves, and the jacket is only half-length on her torso; purely for fashion, not warmth. On the breast of her jacket is her symbol from the days she used to be a Hoenn Frontier Brain. The symbol resembles a musical note mixed with a heart, and the same symbol is on the white t-shirt she wears under her jacket. She’s wearing her usual blue-jean shorts and black runners.

Personality: Melody lives life to her own beat, but what that beat is, only she knows. Her life was harder than she’s willing to admit, but she’s always remained determined. Her creativity is evident in both her music, and how she used to battle at her Facility. She used to teach her pokemon to combine their attacks in the way that a contest battler would; not only to be powerful but to look amazing. She may appear happy-go-luck, but for those that know her, they know she is passionate about defeating injustice. Her greatest pleasure in life was performing; not because it made her famous, but because it made other people happy. Whenever she made someone else smile, she felt happy as well.

History: Melody’s life stated out in the easy-going Eterna City. But, it wasn’t long before she had a younger sister named Harmony; she only spent fifteen minutes as an only child. She tried to get along with her twin as best she could, but for some reason Harmony only ever wanted to show Melody up. Harmony quickly over-shadowed Mel in school when her grades made her the honour roll throughout most of grade school. Melody had a hard time finding friends because Harmony secretly spread rumours about her sister. Melody became disheartened and began to question if she would ever amount to anything. One Halloween night, Harmony and her usual group of friends made a deal with Melody that they would find her some friends if she went into the haunted Old Chateau. Melody agreed and entered the old house, only to be locked inside by Harmony’s friends. Melody broke down crying on the floor when she heard laughter from behind the door. She was scared… but she wasn’t as alone as she thought. The ghosts of the Old Chateau were actually Ghost-type pokemon. A young Rotom found the 7-year old crying in the main hall and tried to comfort her. It dried Melody’s tears and led her into the Banquet Hall. The Ghost pokemon were having their own Halloween party, and they invited her to join them. Before she could say no, the Rotom pushed her onto the dance floor with the rest of them. It was the first time in her life that Melody felt truly happy.

For the next three years, everyday after school and before dinner, Melody spent her time at the Old Chateau. Each time she went there, she brought new and different toys to share with her Ghost-pals. The Rotom that came to help her that Halloween night made a special bond with Mel; it was always waiting for her to arrive and it always saw her out the door. She named that Rotom CD because ‘she’ always played with any music player Melody brought. Together with her pokemon friends, Melody gained enough confidence in herself to try to become a musician, and she practiced and practiced both guitar and keyboards until she became a local rock star. The Ghost pokemon taught her what they refused to teach her in class; pokemon abusing humans. Organizations like Team Rocket had done horrendous things to pokemon in the past. Learning about this, Melody resolved to become such a strong trainer that she could do the most she could to protect pokemon all over. She vowed to set out on her pokemon journey with one of her Ghost friends as her starter.

On her 10th birthday, Mel made good on her vow; when her parents gave the twins their first pokeballs, Mel rushed out the door and into the forest and to the Old Chateau. Turns out, the Ghosts had made a going away party, but they were secretly competing with each other for the position of Mel’s first pokemon. Melody shifted through the mob of Ghost pokemon and found CD. She wasn’t the strongest, but CD was the first friend Mel ever made. Together, the two conquered each of the region’s Leagues, nearly becoming Champions of Sinnoh. Along the way, Melody had amassed a loyal pokemon team; Fos the Aerodactyl, Candy the Gorebyss, Topper the Parasect, Blast the Magmotar, Dice the Weavile, and many more. Finally, at the age of 16, she beat out her twin sister and earned the title of Frontier Brain.

Taking a well-deserved day off from her tireless work as Rock Maiden, Melody and CD had sent the rest of their team on vacation for the week, and they waited patiently for the meteor shower. It would be hard to see the shooting stars from the covered city of Sootopolis, but she was planning on enjoying it anyway. She lay stretched out on the roof of the Battle Stage, waiting for her boy friend to arrive so they could watch it together. CD began to act strangely though; she began shooting out sparks uncontrollably. This was usually only something that she did when she was anxious or afraid. All of a sudden, the sky visible through the opening in the stone ceiling turned blood red. A meteor came and crashed right beside Mel on the roof. The roof cracked underneath Mel and fell on top of the meteor. She was intoxicated by the horde of Shadows pouring out of the rock until she absorbed all of them. CD shuddered seeing her dearest friend’s aura so dark. She began to tear up and before she could even think about abandoning Melody, she rushed down to the Stage and plunged the Purge attack straight into her side. Shadows poured from her mouth, squealing that they lost a body. As this happened, colour poured into Mel’s hair that made it resemble her eyes and a black star appeared over her blue eye. It wasn’t long after that the two were hunted down my Darklings. If it wasn’t for an ADF pick-up in the form of a Gyarados, they would have been killed.

Powers: Mel’s powers are sound-based. If she claps while using her powers, she sends out a shockwave. If she shrieks or sings, she sends out a sonic blast out of her mouth.

Alliance: ADF

Pokemon Partner:

Name: CD
Age: By her species’ standards, 18
Species: Rotom
Bio: CD was raised with contempt after her parents had taught her about humans that had once abused them. She always glared as anyone who passed by the windows of the Old Chateau, especially children. She knew that they would eventually grow up to be trainers and abuse other Pokemon. One Halloween, she heard the door of the main hall slam shut. She saw it as an opportunity to scare the living daylights out of the fool who dared to trespass. Instead of a mischievous intruder, she found a crying child, no older than she was. For the first time, she saw what humans really were; they were not so different than Pokemon. She felt sympathy for Melody, and wanted to make up for all the nasty things she had done to other humans in the past, so she wanted to become friends. CD was the one who taught Mel the principals of music, trained her in the art of self-confidence and about the art of Pokemon battles. The two were inseparable because they taught each other how to be truly happy.

La Melancolie Noir
YAAAY! It's restarting! I just hope this RPG doesn't get murdered by the Ignorance Squad this time around. And this is perfect timing--another RPG I had Merlin in just died.

Also, sorry to be nitpicky, but there seems to be no Personality field in the Silhouette sign-up form. I just don't want people omitting the Personality for that reason...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Name: Vincent "Merlin" Estrel
Codename: Nimbus (though he doesn't use it much)
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Description: Merlin is definitely the short and slender type, standing barely above five feet tall, his skin taking on a light tan hue. Originally his eyes were green, but the effects of the Shadow incident made them golden instead. But he still puts on bright green eyeshadow. It also affected his hair--originally it was black, but the attack gave it deep purple stripes and a little bright pink at the tips. Merlin still puts it in a low ponytail that reaches to the middle of his back, but there are a few shorter wisps on the sides of his face. If he wears his hair down when out in public, that's not a good sign--it means he's grieving over something, or in rarer cases, depressed. Yet despite this rather odd appearance, he still comes across as calm and amiable--or at least he tries to.
Outfit-wise, Merlin likes to be different and stylish. The coat he usually wears is a fine example of this. It's purple as a plum on the outside and with pink satin on the inside, and green trim on the pockets and sleeves. The coat reaches down to his knees, and in the back it tapers off as if into tails. It fits him snugly, and is fastened by way of a little silver chain. The rest of his current outfit is comparably simpler: a light green shirt underneath the coat, and a pair of deep teal trousers. Attached to one of the belt loops is a little zippered bag in which he keeps some of his smaller and more fragile belongings--this bag is normally hidden under his coat. On his feet are gray leather shoes that come almost to a tip at the toe. And finally, he wears two rings on the fingers of his right hand: one with an amethyst stone and one with a ruby one, both with runes on them.
Personality: Merlin picked his nickname for a good reason--he is in fact a wizard in his own right. This erudite individual enjoys old legends and lore, and has a particular penchant for paranormal phenomena and a strong belief in magic. A side effect of this is his open-mindedness, especially when considering reasons behind a problem. Sometimes he will make decisions based on what "feels" right, but he will want to secure this decision with a logical explanation behind it. Indeed, balance is an important virtue to him. He believes there is a definite grey area between good and evil--and any two opposites in fact. Among his most important intentions are to harm none, to trust the flow of fate, and to live in harmony with nature.
For the most part, Merlin has a calm and friendly nature. He respects people for who they are, and isn't shy about starting a conversation with someone. In such a conversation, he acts in a polite and somewhat formal manner no matter who he's talking to, but his somewhat mystical tone of voice and the unidentifiable accent in which he speaks tends to give him problems with relating to people. He also enjoys making witty remarks and embellishing an answer to a question, but he'll tone it down if he notices some jealousy in the other person. Another thing he likes to do is offer advice and guidance to people. If someone is in distress, he will do his best to comfort them. He figures that by doing good things for others, good things will subsequentially come to him.
But that doesn't mean that he'll stand up well to threatening situations. Merlin is the type who would prefer to avoid trouble altogether. Competitions and arguments act as deterrents for him, and he prefers the kinds of games where everybody wins or the stakes are low. With a highly benevolent and optimistic attitude, he tends to overlook any dangers that might be present. Often times he'll think he's addressing a problem directly, when in reality he's inventing a creative way around it that doesn't necessarily solve it. And when he does get hurt, he really gets hurt, and often has a hard time dealing with it.
Now for the fun facts! Although Merlin has been accused of being homosexual, he isn't. It is true that he pays more attention to young ladies than anyone else, due to a rather high sex drive. In turn, he acts more polite and caring than usual around them, and draws less attention to himself. Despite social pressures, he readily expresses his emotions, especially during a conversation. And the things he's most afraid of are pain and violence--it's no wonder he prefers not to fight when conflict arises.
History: Vincent spent the earliest years of his life in Ecruteak City. His parents were both involved in a paranormal research group, and Vincent frequently accompanied them during the meetings. But the group wasn't all about ghosts and other strange occurrences--it also focused a lot on lost legends in the world of Pokemon, and asked the question of where they might have originated. And they worshipped nature and the legendary Pokemon as if they were deities. And finally, most members of the group (with the exception of future gym leader Morty) didn't use Pokemon for battling as much, preferring to keep them as pets ("familiars", as Vincent's mother called them). All these things would make a huge impact on Vincent's spiritual beliefs later on...
But when Vincent was ten, the Estrels had to move, choosing Jubilife City as their new destination. (The reason for this had something to do with the Pokeball manufacturing company his father worked at going out of business.) Jubilife City was awkwardly bustling and lively, and got to be a little too much for young Vincent. He liked Ecruteak a lot better, with its nice atmosphere and the good times with the research group. Fortunately though, the neighbours had three sons, which Vincent ended up spending quite a bit of time with. He was surprised how much they accepted him, given the magical perspective in which he often saw things. But the peculiar thing about them was that they were a slightly mischievous bunch, enjoying sneaking around town and stealing stuff. At first Vincent thought negatively of this idea, but after realising that they strove to avoid acts of violence, he felt as an accepted member of the group. Their most memorable feats were an adventure through a house believed to be haunted, and a successful raiding of an electronics store after closing hours. Growing quite close to each other, they gave themselves a "gang name": the Black Cat Bandits.
Additionally, the Black Cat Bandits gave themselves individual nicknames at this time. So the eldest member was Halberd, who became interested in gadgets and mechanics. The youngest was Warren, the little cutie who liked to draw and joke around. The "leader" of the group was Lupin, an experienced thief with a dark past. Vincent decided to give himself the nickname Merlin, as it fit his wizardly persona. Anyway, Merlin (along with the other Black Cat Bandits) attended the Jubilife Pokemon academy for a while, preparing for a Pokemon journey. In the very end the students were able to purchase the Pokemon they had been practicing with while there. In Merlin's case, this Pokemon was a Riolu named Sage.
Once upon a time, the Black Cat Bandits had ambitions of all becoming gym leaders someday. Merlin's gym was going to be of the Psychic-type, despite his Riolu (besides, his other Pokemon were all Psychic-type). One thing he often had wondered about himself was what it would be like to have psychic abilities, like the ones Sabrina and many Pokemon had. Well anyway, after a few years, none of the Black Cat Bandits had achieved this goal. Instead they all decided to go off into their separate careers, leaving Merlin alone (except for his Pokemon of course) on his journey after that.
After a bit of traveling, Merlin ended up in Kanto. While there, he finally settled down somewhat. In Lavender Town, he set up a little living space which also functioned as a shop. This shop, called the Mystic Sanctuary, was an open, welcoming place where people could come for healing and consolation, with very low fees if any at all. Merlin also specialised in tutoring certain attacks to Pokemon. And when there were no customers, he stayed upstairs to read one of the many books that his family's paranormal research group had discussed. Still, none of the books provided so much as a hint as to how Pokemon really began. And the only thing Merlin really didn't like about this situation was having to borrow money from the other Black Cat Bandits on several occasions, money that often came from thieving profits. He often worried about the karmic impacts of such a borrowing, making him long even more to become a gym leader instead. A lack of resources and assistants prevented him from doing that though.
But after a while things finally started to get interesting. Merlin caught an Abra named Preston, who proved to be quite different from his other Pokemon (see Preston's bio for more info). A couple of years later, there came a time when there was to be a meteor shower visible from Hoenn. So he traveled to Lilycove City with Preston, leaving his other Pokemon (Lunatone, Musharna, Lucario, and Gothitelle) to guard the Mystic Sanctuary. But something strange happened when the meteors fell. The sky turned a blood red, and a meteor fell right near where Merlin and Preston were. When Merlin went to investigate this meteor, shadowy beings erupted from it and engulfed him. His eyes turned the same blood-red as the "sunset", and he spoke in a deep and stern voice that was not normal for him at all:
"We have come for you, Pokemon. Do not deny that you know why we are here. Now we must reclaim our faults of the past."
The egotistical yet naive Preston (who was an Alakazam by then) immediately attacked Merlin, in an attempt to purge him of this evil annoyance. Wait--purge, that's it! Regular attacks didn't do the job, but the "forbidden" Purge attack did. Well, sort of. Merlin survived with a few peculiar appearance changes, most notably a star-shaped mark on his forehead. But more interestingly, he had acquired the psychic abilities he had often dreamed about having--though they were nowhere near as powerful as his Pokemon's were.
Powers: As a consequence of becoming a Silhouette, Merlin now sees an aura around every living thing (this includes people, Pokemon, and plants). The colour of that aura reveals the individual's general mood or physical state, and its shape can reveal where they might be experiencing physical or emotional pain. As part of helping people in distress, he employs healing methods that work with the aura, which can help ease the distress and other minor forms of pain they may be experiencing (but not injuries). And because all psychic abilities make use of the aura, Merlin can immediately tell when someone is either using or under the influence of such abilities. That's it as far as abilities go... but in case you're wondering where Merlin's codename comes from, the nimbus is the part of a person's aura that surrounds the head (the part that surrounds the rest of the body is called the aureole). It is in fact the nimbus that Merlin primarily looks at while reading someone's aura.
Allience: ADF
Pokemon Partner:
Name:
Preston
Age: 12
Gender: Male
Species: Alakazam
Bio: While living in the wild areas of Kanto as an Abra, Preston had a Kadabra mother who hated the idea of having a trainer. So he was really upset when Merlin captured him, so upset that he immediately evolved to Kadabra and refused to be called by a name other than Preston. He also refused to obey any battle commands and attempts at attack tutoring, believing himself to be superior to humans. Being nosy by nature, he enjoyed reading the minds of anyone he came across--Merlin included. But over time, he secretly developed an interest in Merlin. By slowly picking up personality bits with his thought-reading, he discovered interesting things like Merlin's interest in psychic phenomena and knowledge about Pokemon attacks and various magical topics. And rather than being frustrated at Preston's superiority complex, he supported and played along with it. Not to mention he helped Preston evolve to Alakazam and gave him an extra spoon. Yet even with all these things, Preston remained adamant about preserving his old attitude, coming across as conceited and egotistical. (Though he did finally let Merlin teach him Shadow Ball and Focus Blast, mostly to cover type weaknesses.)
What Preston doesn't know is that his mother was a member of the ADF. She thought Preston was too young to know about that organisation, and thus kept it secret. But she couldn't keep everything secret--Preston did find out about some attack called "Purge", and that it was to be used as a "last resort" or something. He didn't know all the details. When Merlin became possessed by the Shadows, he remembered this brief mentioning of Purge (being an Alakazam helped) and decided to try it out. But his reason for doing this was to avoid being taken away by the Darklings, not to save Merlin's life. Or was it?
Well this is interesting....mind if I join in?
Pokemon:
Name: Rita
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Species: Blitzle
Physical description: Other than a confident look in her eye, she looks like other Blitzles
Personality: Rita is calm and confident. She works hard to save lives of others despite putting herself at risk. She's willing to do almost anything to save a defenseless person, be they human or Pokemon. However she does not simply rush to the aid of others if she has time to think. She often thinks of how she can work her abilities to come out on top. She is not easily broken either.
History: Rita was the starter Pokemon of a young man that had a dream to be the champion, and he had a lot of promise. He often made strategies for scenarios like desert areas and battling evil doers near a fire. Rita went through these strategies with him and learned a lot.
Then the shadows came. Rita and her trainer were startled by a meteor landing near them and then a shadow coming out. Rita was with humans her whole life and never knew anything about the shadows or the ADF. Her trainer was consumed by the shadow and attacked her. She paralyzed him and made her escape into the forest. She still resides there and is thinking about how to save her trainer. Hopefully someone will show her the way.
Move Set: Thunder Wave, Quick Attack, Shock Wave, and Double Kick. She hasn't learned any moves since the lift of the curse.
Equipment: None
Alliance: Vigilante, however she might join the ADF if she meets them.
Sorry if it's a bit short compared to your bios.
Alright, let's try this again with English Paper worthy stuff this time.
Pokemon:
Name: Aqua
Gender: Female
Age: 3 years old
Species: Oshawott
Physical description: Her ears appear on the top of her head rather than the sides of her head.
Personality: Aqua is very timid and will often run away when she gets scared, even though she is slow when running on land she is very fast when using Aqua Jet or swimming. Due to her young age she will believe anything that someone says. If she is unable to escape she will cringe and whimper. She thinks by doing that someone will save her because that's what happened in the past. Despite her timidness she is very curious. Her curiosity often gets the best of her and she could possibly walk in at the worst time possible.
Aqua is a poor battler when it comes to using her moves offensively. However she is quite creative and can often use the environment to her advantage. She often dodges at the last moment, or as long as she can hold in her fear, with a tree or other object at her back if the opponent charges at her. While she lacks a long range attack she often throws whatever is lying around her to distract the enemy so she can escape. Despite her abilities she hates battling anything. She only fights things at her size or smaller to avoid getting overpowered. If her opponent is even an inch taller she will use Aqua Jet to run away.
With all her flaws Aqua is not without merit. She is willing to learn anything that will help her become stronger and more useful. She also learns things quickly, unless it involves reading people. She's also doesn't talk much which helps her avoid angering other people. It's easy to become her friend, as long as you don't look scary.
History: Aqua was hatched by a six year old boy named Greg. She was welcomed into the family quite warmly as the boy took care of her. Her first year was uneventful as all she did was eat, sleep, and other baby things. When she was two she went out for a walk, but it did not end well. She was attacked by a wild Monferno that a local trainer was trying to catch. She had nightmares for about a week after the event. Even after the events she was very nervous when she went outside and she sometimes ran back to the home when she got scared of a bigger Pokemon around. Her human family tried to help her with some therapy, but nothing seemed to work.
After giving up on therapy Aqua's family tried keeping her indoors. She was often happy in the house and she often played. Decent amounts of exercise kept her in shape while she was an indoor Pokemon. After awhile Greg decided trying to take her outside again, but with a different approach. When he took her outside he would always crouch as talk sweetly to her in an effort to calm her down. It worked so her decided to bring her into a friend's house. She was nervous in there but Greg kept her from freaking out, even with unknown humans around. He decided that Aqua's problem was a lack of confidence so he asked his parents if he could go on a journey with her to boost her confidence which they agreed to when he turned ten years old.
When Greg and Aqua set out for the journey they had some problems. Aqua kept running from the battle resulting in Greg often running after her. It took them about four days to reach the first town. Then the red skies came. As they gazed at the red skies they didn't know what was gonna happen. They stayed in a Pokemon Center and came out the next morning to see the red skies were still there. Then Greg was hit by the shadows. Aqua did not stay and used Aqua Jet to flee as soon as her trainer was attacked as she feared for her safety.
Move Set: She only knows Aqua Jet, Tackle, and Tail Whip.
Equipment: Nothing
Alliance: Vigilante, although it could change.
I'ma sign up for this.
Not completely sure what to be though, I'll be on the ADF for sure though, just deciding on species. Thinking larvitar for now though.
EDIT: Yup, reserve me as Larvitar, I've got everything down excluding the History... I've never been good at History, so I always leave it 'till last, well, here goes *Returns to MS Word*
@ Extreme Floatzel: You got it, bud. Glad to have you aboard!
^ To answer your question, Purge (not to be confused with Luster Purge) is exclusive to this RP. It turns a Darkling back into a human, if I remember.
And great to see that the first RPG I ever signed up for is back again! I won't be needing a reserve, thank you.
So I'm thinking it over, and I figure I might as well take a reserve, if you please.
@ Extreme Floatzel: Get in line, Soldier! And you really must check the details of an RP before signing up-Purge is pretty important!
@ Raiden193: Awesome to have you back on board
I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind answering them.
1. What do you mean by "sheep" in the rules? If that is an RP term, it's one I've never heard.
2. How much time must past before you consider somebody as "inactive"? Because I am a college student with a job, so I may only get one post in per week.
@Guywhoiam: The Sheep thing is just a joke, don't take it too seriously. Inactivity for me is 2 weeks.
I apologize, but do to college and taking part in another RP, I will not be able to partake in this one.
Sorry for any inconvenience,
Hey guys, should I just start the rp right now? I wanted to wait until I got at least 7 characters but...
I would mabye wait. I know that I personally don't like starting RPs that already have started, so that might not encourage people to join, or mabye that's just me.
Although if nobody else joins soon I suppose you might as well start it up.
I was wondering if it would be okay if Aqua undergoes change in personality and evolution during the roleplay.
