Critical Hits

Well I never knew where to put this so I put it here. My question is, how often do critical hits happen? And how do attacks like focus energy or slash change this chance?

In the 1st generation each Pokemon had a Critical Hit stat. The higher the stat was the higher the critical hit ratio. Electrode had the highest (and he was the fastest). Venusaur's stat was so high that it always got a crirical hit with Razor Leaf thus placing Venusaur high up the OU chart in GRBY. Jolteon's was almost as high as Electrode's and he was well known for a high CH stat. In GRB there was a glitch in which if a Pokemon was faster your CH stat would fall to zero and if you were slower your CH stat would stay the same.

it would be interesting to see a CH-based blaziken with a scope lens, using focus energy, blaze kick, slash, and karate chop or something. but i'm pretty sure focus energy can only be used once in battle

I have another question: do critical hits simply do double the damage regular ones do, or do they also ignore raises in defence stats? because I've had times where I cosmic-powered up my defences super high, but if the opponent got a critical hit, it didn't just do double a regular one (which by then wasn't much) - it fainted my pokemon, as if I had never raised my defences at all! so, is this another effect of critical hits?

Volteon

Back I guess??
iirc it's:
No CHit boosts: 6.5%
1 CHit boost: 12.5%
2 CHit boosts: 25%
3 CHit boosts: 50%

These boosts can be from a move with a high CH ratio, Focus Energy, and/or Scope Lens (or even lansat berry).

and just double damage.

Alright, here's all I know about critical hits;

Focus Energy raises the critical hit ratio. It can only be used once until the Pokemon is withdrawn, at which point the CH ratio reverts to normal.

Several attacks (Karate Chop, Slash, Blaze Kick, Poison Tail, ect.) have higher-than-average critical hit ratios.

The item Scope Lens increases the holder's critical hit ratio.

If a critical hit is scored, I believe defense boosts on the target are ignored.

Having said that, can Focus Energy be Baton Passed?

You might not bielieve this but:

Focus energy+Scope lens+Slash and other high critical hit rated moves=More critical hits.

Happened to me and my Blaziken once.

Let me guess. Was it for Topaz?

But, I guess what above people said was right.

Is the CH stat in GSC?

The CH stat was not in GSC iirc. I caused too many problems (glitched with Focus Energy and High CH ratio moves and multiple hit moves). See www.smogon.com and go on the RBY section and it gives you the CH ratios of each Pokemon.

I believe for most attacks, it's 1/20 chance. For "high critical hit rate" attacks, 1/5. Focus energy probably just increases the chance by say 1/20, but that depends on how many times you can use it.

you can only use it once in battle can't you
