Yes, and I agree. I've written worse, never mind the fact that I've read through fic where both parties enjoyed it. And, well, read through lit where both parties enjoyed it. Or almost read through it before I had to put it aside. (Thank you, Marquis de Sade. I'm not sure what beneficial contributions you bestowed on this world, but thanks for the stuff that wasn't?)

Although I do see how it can be shocking.

I mean, besides the fact that you have happy-go-lucky, perky Pinkie Pie committing acts of practically senseless violence left and right in what's supposed to be HAPPY MAGICAL SPARKLY FUN TIMES LAND, there's also the fact that Rainbow Dash was awake for the whole thing. So, just imagining how that must feel can be cringe-worthy for those of us who haven't gotten into sadist literature.

So, really, it works as a shock piece, but of course, not all shock works affect everyone. It's like how not all shock sites (not fic but things like pics and videos) scare everyone or make every viewer feel sick. We've all got different levels of tolerance towards that kind of thing, but I do commend the author of Cupcakes for writing an interesting attempt. Even if it didn't shock me, I still wanted to know more about this system Pinkie Pie was following, and it certainly lent some delicious, dark undertones to what's usually an extremely perky canon.

OH GOD AND I JUST FINISHED LISTENING TO A READING OF "SWEET APPLE MASSACRE"!

"Cupcakes" is a cupcake compared to THAT. If you have not read it, DON'T, I beg of you.

Anyway... onto "Cupcakes".

I was a bit unaffected by the story (I'm not a MLP fan for one thing, I just know a bit about the show), but it left me numb and I couldn't eat properly for about an hour or so. I got over it, but then I read spinoffs.

"The Little Bakery of Horrors" is the worst one I've read of the spinoffs, or should I say "sequel". A friend and I along with a well-known fanfic reader on YouTube read the story, and I freaked out by the end and replied to the story. It's... awful. Pinkie Pie kills Fluttershy similarly to how she killed Rainbow Dash, but with twists to them... if you want to read it for yourself, go look it up. But be warned, there may be some parts that may be more disturbing than the scenes in "Cupcakes".

As a warning, it's not as funny as it sounds because:

...That character who gets turned into a cupcake? It happens. But it's not a magical, "poof, now you're a vanilla cupcake" kind of transformation. It's a not-magical, "poof, I just killed you, chopped you up, and baked you into you-flavored cupcakes that I'm going to give to all my friends" kind of transformation. Which also sounds a bit narmy (and the plot of half the fairy tales in existence, come to think of it) until you actually read the fic and see how much detail is put into the "chopped you up" part.

And really, it's not so much scary as it is twisted. If you have a weak stomach, I wouldn't recommend reading it because even this spoiler is fluffy and fuzzy in comparison to the actual thing, but if you can stomach a lot, then go for it.

i want to read it but i never found it

Well, if you're really looking for it, I'd say try Google. It's not that difficult to find if you just put the title of the fic and the fandom in the search bar.

But again, don't read it if you have a weak stomach.

Ah yes, I'm well awere of the story known as 'cupcakes', FandomBase did an article about it as well as provided a YouTube link of a guy actually reading the story (now I'm really glad that I walked away from the story at the time). On a side note about fan-fics, considering that this and another story were both featured on the site, have anybody read 'My Immortal'. It's one of those badfics that's so bad it's hilarious. It makes a great pick-me-up for if you've been left disturbed by fics such as 'cupcakes', if not then I do have a cure-all for what 'ails you (unless you hate this video with your guts) :

*ahem*

Something Broke: The Continuing Tale of Pinkie Pie and Ponycide - A song which tells the story of cupcakes. Quite possibly the best cupcakes media currently in existance.

The same artist also did a more subtle Cupcakes related song, but it's still awesome, Taste The Rainbow

Rainbow Dash presents: Cupcakes - A comical variation of the cupcakes story, which is hilarious.

I relation to what I thought about cupcakes as a story, I'll quote myself after I 'reviewed' it in my LiveJournal.

Okay, it might just be because I've written what I have; namely, Serial, I'm Dreaming of a Red Christmas and A Rose By Any Other Name. But Cupcakes wasn't that bad, it didn't shock me nor surprise me, I even noticed similarities between my work and this... maybe I just desensitised myself to it because of what I've written.

I even found myself criticizing the torture, saying that there was no way in holy hell Dash would've lasted that long. If it was so easy to bring people back to consciousness after such trauma then medical science would be much further along and we'd have less deaths on the operating table. "But Lewis!" I hear you cry, before wondering how you learned my name, "This is Equestria, not real life!" to which I rebut, "THAT'S EVEN LESS OF AN EXCUSE!" The worst thing the only nurse in the show has had to deal with was bad cupcakes (silly Applejack) After all that love and tolerance, they've hardly built up a resistance to pain and suffering, if anything they're more sucseptible to it.

The fic also has a knack of moving too quickly, why does it skim over Pinkie's "collection"? Forcing the image of Luna knows how many dead ponies in whatever way Pinkie has desired them to be in would make this a hell of a lot more impactful.

Not to put it down too much. Perhaps I in part spoiled it by building it up so much in my mind, but Pinkie Pie, the way she was characterised (actually reminded me awfully of A Rose By Any Other Name) was really good, the bad puns, the happy-go-lucky attitude and the innocence combined with the stark reality that she's a killer? Not only a killer but an amatuer taxidermist come fashion designer? That was a brilliant imagining. SergeantSprinkles deserves my credit for that.

In short, if you want to truly experience the horror of Cupcakes, do the opposite of what Hollywood has taught you when it comes to quality. Just sack it off and watch the film listen to the 20 minute song I posted a while back.

Fun, but nothing I haven't done before (except maybe the taxidermy/fashion thing)

In case you were wondering, the 20 minute song I mention at the end is the top link in this post.

Before reading it, I'd heard people speak of it as if it was the anti-christ. It honestly isn't that bad, as Jax said, it's just played for shocks and that creates an incredibly shallow fic that, while gratuitous (and a complete u-turn from canon) is just meh.

On a side note about fan-fics, considering that this and another story were both featured on the site, have anybody read 'My Immortal'. It's one of those badfics that's so bad it's hilarious.

Cupcakes isn't so bad it's hilarious though. Spiderses, yes (Not Safe For pretty much anywhere). Cupcakes is (as far as I know) a completely serious attempt at fiction that did rather well, just not as well as I would have like to hope (literature wise, in terms of impact... hammer + nail = job done)

Although if we're going to mention 'My Immortal' and fanfic readings in the same thread, I think somebody needs a link to the (in his own rights) Immortal Bennet the Sage...

Masterpiece Fanfic Theater: My Immortal Part 1 - He's done several more parts and they are all gold, he just has the best way of reading it typos and all.

Enjoy the links, they should keep you busy for a good two hours at least.

Lol, who really hasn't? I haven't read it all the way through, just some chapters and the page on TV Tropes and other websites, and it's freakin' hilarious. It's just more hilarious that Tara guessed the ending of Harry Potter correctly, actually.

Forbiden Fruit: The Tempation of Edward Cullen has to be one of the funniest My Immortal rip-offs there is, though. Nothing can top the mancarrot.

It's a horror fic. It can be quite disturbing to people who aren't used to the idea of it. I'll PM you the link if I can find it. And Sweet Apple Massacre is a lot worse. I literally almost threw up reading it. At least I had amusing commentary to go along with it while I was reading, though.

Dragonfree

I've read it. And reviewed it on TV Tropes, as a matter of fact.

The thing is I used to go to this site called Godawful Fan Fiction which specialized in finding the most depraved pieces of fanfiction in existence. One of the most infamous was a Power Rangers fic called Agony in Pink (also by the same author, a Star Wars fic called The Interrogation of Leia and an original fic called Holly's Home Invasion; in several ways they're actually worse, but Agony in Pink is the infamous one).

Pinkie Pie pulling out Rainbow Dash's internal organs? Pff; Tortura stuck needles under Kimberly's toenails, then pulled out the toenails. And sliced up her breasts with a pizza slicer. I think Leia was forced to eat her own feces at some point. Holly was raped with the handle of a plunger. And, importantly, Cupcakes was clearly written as horror. These fics were written as porn. The author revels in his torture fetish for pages and pages and pages; it doesn't end when it's made its point, but instead just goes on and on and on with every mutilation the author could think of and droningly repetitive descriptions of all of them and overexaggerated screaming. It would be funny if it weren't so disturbing.

So, long story short, Cupcakes is really pretty mild as far as the squick factor goes, and it didn't really faze me at all. I thought the concept was kind of interesting, really. But it was just not well written (the descriptions were too medical and flavorless to evoke that real, visceral horror reaction as opposed to faint disgust), made some really narmy typos ('conciseness' instead of 'consciousness'?), and didn't capture Pinkie well enough - it felt like Pinkie with sadism pasted on, rather than an actual interpretation of the canon Pinkie as sadistic. At no point did it make me feel like I would never see Pinkie Pie the same way again or like this was what was going on in the background during the actual show. It's kind of like the many shipping fics I've read where I think, "Hey, Character X is characterized really well here, except for the part where he's in love with Character Y." There's a difference between a fic that just expects you to go along with the deviations it makes from canon and a fic that manages to convince you it could be canon; Cupcakes would be interesting if it were the latter, but unfortunately it is clearly the former, which makes it rather unremarkable.

...And that's my overanalysis of a My Little Pony torturefic.

Oh, God, someone's actually doing a comic version of it on DA. IDK if I'm allowed to post it considering how gory it is (or at least it will be, it's still WIP and hasn't gotten too gory yet), but just to be safe, PM me if you want it.

Oh yeah, I know about that. I'm actually kinda excited to see how it turns out. It's not badly drawn.

I saw this thread, started reading a part of it, and.... No, nonono. Too much.

I think the worst part is how non-chalant Pinkie is about doing it. And the other one is so sad, and gowahguiow. No.

I read it because of this thread. Derp. I'm not an MLP watcher, but I know enough to read about these characters.

It was okay. It had the inappropriate jokes, the nonchalance, and the killer's system of victims or whatever. However, as someone said already, the description was pretty much lacking, and I felt that was the reason I was just mildly disgusted by it rather than shocked. All of the five senses could have been expanded on, especially the ones that actually make you sick like smell and taste. I think anybody who's dissected fetal pigs or whatever in high school knows that a lot more could have been done in the organ-harvest section.

Then there's the grammar/spelling area. Yeah, it was distracting and took away from the horror tone the author was going for.

I read Cupcakes probably a few months ago, after a few guy friends of mine discovered it on the internet and started trying to freaking our innocent classmates out by reading it aloud. They succeeded, of course, and many people thought the two were insane for finding it in the first place. I didn't know what to think, so I decided to see for myself. After I read the story, all I could think was WTF?

But that aside...Cupcakes wasn't that bad. It didn't freak me out at all. I simply wondered how bored the author was when he decided to write the gorey fanfiction, using My little Pony characters no less...XD

I don't think boredom has anything to do with it, I've written stuff like cupcakes on this very site, if you're interested in reading it, it's in my Author's Profile under the name 'A Rose By Any Other Name' (which is probably the most gruesome of what I've done) It's not going to make you scared to leave the house, but it's cupcakes before cupcakes existed, kinda gorey and squicky that'll only make you feel slightly unclean for having read it. Also, as you've demonstrated, probably confused as to why anyone would write that kind of stuff.

Short answer, it's fun.

Slightly less short answer, it's a challenge because horror is one of one of the hardest genres to be good in. Sure you can add gore and mutilation and catch over-protected kids off guard, but against internet hardened youths, you're not going to get anywhere. You need to create an atmosphere and set a tone that will unsettle the reader, it's about making the reader create their own fear instead of trying to force fear on them.

As you can probably tell, it's not that easy.

But yeah, my mother was always interested in crime stories, had lots of books on the subjects, watched lots of documentaries about them and I joined in. So I picked it up an interest at a young age, when I discovered writing, it took me a while to figure that I could create my own crime stories using fanfiction. I do it because I'm interested in the genre and the subject matter.

Can't say for sure that's why Sergeant Sprinkles does it. But if Dragonfree is right and he's prolific for it, then maybe.

The fics I talked about aren't by the same author as Cupcakes; they're by the same author as each other. Sorry if that got misunderstood.

The author of Agony in Pink et al very clearly wrote them for no other reason than because he has a torture/humiliation fetish, but Cupcakes, like I said, is definitely written as horror and doesn't give off a porn vibe of any kind. I'd personally wager the reason it was written wasn't boredom or general interest in horror so much as the thrill of twisting something innocent and happy like My Little Pony into something gory and terrifying - the same kind of reason why some people actively enforce Rule 34. Or, in other words, he wrote My Little Pony torturefic because it was My Little Pony torturefic.
