I was randomly browsing the Diamond & Pearl Pokedex and I noticed Umbreon ;197; gains the move Assurance. The desicription says that its "power doubles if foe already takes damage that turn."

Does anyone know if this only applies to direct damage or to damage from, say, poison/burn/other status afflictions?

Yeah, both of them. I also went here since it said Umbreon.

I doubt it works with status effects.

I assume it means direct damage... but i'm also wondering what "Payback" does.... because it looks like the same move just with a shorter description.
