Dawn's early appeals, why were they better than her appeals now?

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
I just finished rewatching Dawn's first two Contests today, and something I made sure to pay attention to this time were her appeals in light of recent events.

Dawn's appeal with Piplup went pretty much perfectly in her first Contest, and while Pachirisu almost messed her up in the second one, she at least regained control of it and got it to do a perfect appeal as well.

My question is, why did the writers suddenly decide to make Dawn mess up her appeals when her first two were actually really good? It actually seems strange now rewatching the early Contests and seeing her do so well and then see her all of a sudden lose her appeal strategy in the newer ones.

Its almost seeming like the character is going in reverse, her early appeals were better than the ones she's doing now. What's happening here?

Maybe the competition has been harder, not counting the Ambipom one since Dawn messed up.

She hasn't develop at all in her contest appeals. She thinks that something shiny is going to make her go to the second round.

And none of her appeals have been good, in her first one her mom said that it was stiff. All of her appeals have been rather mediocre.

Wait a minute . . . Dawn used Piplup in the appeals for the Jubilife contest?

Aw, man . . . all this time I'd thought she'd used Buneary for the appeals there. I really need to pay closer attention to the Contest episodes.

I think she was just a bit cocky. Losing those two recent contests was good for her in my opinion... i think it could have helped her get over herself and focus more.

The King of Turtles.
Yeah, she completely svcked in the Hearthome Episode. But who knows, she might get another shot once she returns there.

Buneary is the rejected girl in her team. She did the battle round in the Floarama Contest and she lost. After that Buneary has never touched a contest stage again.

Buneary never gets to do anything. If it didn't have a crush on Pikachu some of us would forget about it altogether.

Man, why does each character always have one Pokemon they ignore? The writers really need to learn to give each Pokemon equal screentime.

I blame Dawns mum for some of it. Dawn has a lot to live up to, since her mum was a pro at contests and all. She just thought that having Ambipom doing Swift over and over would make things better, but that was the dullest appeal I've ever seen...

Hopefully Dawn will get a close lose/win in her first Gym battle.

BTW, Buneary actually did something last episode!

Off topic:
Anyone remember the early Hoenn eps and Drew said that Ash would be good in contests? What happened to that? Now Ash sucks at them! (Not as much as Dawn, but...) Anyone find it odd that Ash drew against May in his first Contest (actually, he won by a Millimetre) but couldn't get past the first/second battle round in his next Contests?

Almighty Zard

He has returned.
Still Zoey said that if it wasn't because the time was up he would have defeated her. He's not really that bad.

Lol though her and Glowmeow's expressions at the end of that fight sure said alot more than what came out of her mouth afterwords.

I dunno about the appeal thing, I mean it does seem like ever since the Florama contest they've had Dawn lean alot more towards battle type training than appeal training and in the hearthorne contest it was kinda exceptional for her to lose since it was double appeals not single ones.

Actually Ash's appeal in the Floarama Contest was far better than Dawn's and up to this point I think that appeal is better than the others Dawn presented.

She's a battler, in the last episode she was great battling. I wouldn't be surprised if she manages to defeat Maylene or give her a hard time.

Yeah. Dawn deserves to atleast be close to winning a Badge. I hope the writers don't make her crappy at that too... Though, it does make the whole trade kind of pointless...

The way I see it, she has not practiced for contests in between filler episodes so the end result is that she does not really do well in the appeal rounds. Or my other prediction that I believe is more accurate, is that she changes everything at the last minute.

Recapping the Jublife contest. Piplup managed to store power in the Peck attack before the Contest and that worked well when it was during the Contest. Dawn didn't adjust anything during the Contest hence she knew how to execute the performance.

Recapping the Floaroma contest. Pachirisu managed to store up power and then burst off with sparkles of electricity before the contest. Pachirisu did the same in the contest appeal thus it worked well for that. Then you just finish it off with a Sweet Kiss attack (which worked well in the practice contest in "Borrowing on Bad Faith!" episode) and there you go.

Now let's take the Solaceon contest. She had her performance set before Aipom evolved so that messed her up a little. And then during the contest day, she comes up a good way to utilize the Swift attack. But she didn't overdo it like she did in the contest appeal. For some odd reason, she wants to have Ambipom do more Swift attacks, probably thinking that it would astound the Judges with the overload amounts of stars. And it is due to changing this appeal that she didn't expect that Ambipom would be covered entirely from all those stars.

The only one I absolutely disagree with the Judges on is the Hearthome contest. Their decision in that one was just plain odd, simply because Dawn's appeal sounded positive and they liked it, yet she couldn't make it. The only explanation that she lost in this one is that Dawn didn't know until later and she hasn't had any practice in Double performances. I would also guess that she was too prideful on winning the Floaroma contest so she didn't practice as much for the next one. You can see that Dawn felt confident during the Hearthome contest and then became extremely surprised once after the results were shown. It was maybe this over confidence is why her appeal seemed to lack something that the Judges wanted to see.
