Dead disc drive?

Okay well to tell the truth I think my main computer CD disc drive is dead. I've been trying to play Zoo tycoon 2 and it keeps saying insert the disc, but the disc is inserted, the disc is in mint condition too. So I tryed my trusty catz 5 disc, nouthing, a dvd, still zip. The last tyime it worked fine was last week when i tried something out, now just nouthing, so do you think my CD drive is really dead? Or did i mess something up?

Well CD drives don't tend to read DVDs. o_0

You may want to make sure the data (The grey one) and power cables (The one coming from the power supply) are connected. Does the LED (If it has one) flash when you boot it up?

Yup all that, the LED does light up orange, and it just worked last week. And I meant DVD-rom

Interesting. Put another CD/DVD in and if it still doesn't work, look at it in "My Computer" (It'll be something like D: or E: ). If Windows shows it (Assuming you are booting Windows) try opening it from there.

Tried like 10 discs and 5 dvds, not a thing. No Autorun, no icon in my computer, nouthing.

Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager button

Than look for "DVD/CD Drives". If something shows up it could have an "Exclamation Mark" above it, meaning there it's drivers aren't found.

But, are you sure the cables ARE plugged in? Pushed on them and stuff?

Tried that first thing, its all fine with that. I'l fix my cbles, i mean i do bump them alot. ^_^;

Now everytime i try to acsess the Disc drive from my computer with a disc in it says this.



There is not a single thing wrong with the damn disc!

no but then again my other drive was never recognised, ever by this comp.

Do you have two CD drives? It could be a master and slave problem.
