Deceit & Assist

The Grand Festival has begun and May has to battle against an old rival...Harley. Meanwhile Ash is trying to perfect Snorunt's Ice Beam. However in doing so he finds that Team Rocket have stolen a person's Ribbons. Can he get them back in time for the entry and will May win?

What attack is that one that Skitty uses, making them all look at Munchlax? I can't even guess what it might be. Overall, this episode was good, even if May relied too much on Assist in the appealing round. The battle between May and Harley was cool too, especially with the combination Beautifly and Bulbasaur did.

That was Solarbeam, which so far as anyone knew until that moment, none of Haruka's pokemon knew.

That Banette...wow. The writers have put it down very well. I found it funny when the announcer was scared because of Banette. You can't say it didn't have a good debut. Speaking of good debuts, I liked the Swalot thing too, especially when it devoured Jessie. Too bad it spat her out immediately. I was surprised for Swalot showing up, it isn't exactly the most appealing Pokemon around. That Trainer deserves 1st prize for originality. Skitty's appeal was good, although it had the Assist thing again. Solarbeam was a surprise, it seems like good ol' munchy is capable of more than we think. Good episode.

Could it be that munchlax is going to be like Ash's snorlax, lazy for most of the time but able to turn into a powerhouse if/when required.

But her Bulbasaur could have known that move all along though.

I really enjoyed watching those three episodes, and my favourite is this second part.
The ambience in that stadium was great, and with cool songs as BGM I wasn't bored for a second while watching.^^
The episode was speedy, yet not rushed. I really liked it when the coordinators made little performances themselves by jumping up into the air when they threw their pokéballs or other things. It's better than just standing there and call the Pokémon out with no action at all.
The animation was terrific, and the appeals were colorful and exciting. It sounds silly, but my mood got much better when I saw this ep^^

Okay I'm looking at the pictures and it's definitely Caroline at the Grand Festival wasn't it? Also what reason did they give for Norman not being there? did have something to do with him being a gym leader and had to stay on the off chance a trainer would come and challenge him?

Sorry about the many questions *hangs head*

Yes, but the fact that Munchlax was conveniently separated from May's other Pokemon by being asleep on Caroline's lap was a pretty good hint that what Caroline suggested (that it knows Solarbeam) is actually true. It's called good storytelling. :)

Hales: Not sure exactly, no doubt Murg will clarify this, but it definitely had to do with the Gym. Norman, Kenny, and Norman's Pokemon are all seen watching the Festival on TV, and Norman has a towel around his neck, so he probably had some challengers to deal with, and had just finished a battle.

From the translation I'm working on:

Haruka: Mama, where's Papa?
Mama: Well, he had a lot of gym battles scheduled, so he couldn't come.

Well...um Murgatroyd or Geodude...just a Question...before i go to ON TOPIC...

is there any chance...you will make some AVATARS out of these 3 ep's...cuz...I CAN'T FIND ANOTHER PLACE to put this...so...JUST ASKING...cuz i saw MANY GOOD ONES...

anyway back to topic...Jessie looking fat IS HILARIOUS...and then get SWALLOWN BY A SWALOT...is funny...

the ep was good...but not as good as the next (400)...but it was well done...:D

As Murgatroyd said, he had battles scheduled. However, I just wanted to point out that it seems being a gym leader doesn't require you to forever be at your post, awaiting the next challenger. We've seen Ash come to an empty gym numerous times and have to go through some quirky adventure before the leader is ready to battle.

Indeed. But even in the real world, we all understand the concept of "not being able to get time off work". These may have been some last-minute challengers, or Norman may have gotten some dates mixed up...stuff happens.

And while a Gym Leader doesn't always have to be right at the gym, just think about the distance factor. Planning the relatively long trip from Petalburg to Slateport might be tricky for a GL who is constantly getting challengers.

I just saw this episode along with the other 2.

This episode was such a great appealing episode, I really liked Banette's appeal was so cool! The Will-O-Wisp along with the Thunder attack was genious.

But May's appeal was just fantastic! I think it was such a great idea for an appeal, using Assist over and over again along with Blizzard at the end.
I was really worrying when Skitty became confused but May was quick on her feet and made it use Double Slap on itself which was a great idea.

It's one of May's best appeals!

This is especially true given the timing relative to the League. Everyone who needs just one more badge will be challenging the Gyms around now.

So do you think that Norman and Caroline would go to the Hoenn League Tournament to watch Ash battle? I know its not convenient to ask this in this thread but I have no idea where to put it... so I apologise.

Good to see that Caroline was watching May battle live...
