How is she being selfish? I'm sure she wouldn't mind giving her blessing if the staff asked but the staff is the one who needs to ask, if May hasn't appeared it means they haven't asked, if they haven't asked then it means they don't have plans for May to return

I wouldn't say selfish since she hasn't really made any statement regarding about a possible reprisal of Hakura. It's more of studio respect to her, which is common in many fields of media. To simply ignore their input and instead hire someone else without permission is just disrespectful.
I mean, take for instant Peter Cullen's lament that Hasbro hired a sound-like voice actor for Optimus Prime for their War for Cybertron Netflix series without telling him. He stated he would have eagerly taken up the role if they had asked and felt that they only did this to save money. He is the iconic voice of Optimus Prime, so it was disrespectful to keep him in the dark.

Oh wow that's the most douche thing I've heard in a LONG time on this site, grow up.
We don't even know if KAORI was EVER approached with voicing the character again so we have no idea if she refused or forbade anyone from replacing her. Even if she did who cares it's a anime character and she's under no obligation to strain her voice to try and voice the character when she's LITERALLY unable to.
Hell the anime staff could've never approached Kaori and used their own discretion to leave May out of the show because they just assumed she wouldn't be able to voice the character. We simply don't know what goes on behind closed doors so to assume the blame falls squarely on KAORI is insanely disrespectful
