Honestly don’t mind Go catching anything in an episode at this point. Ash’s Gengar and Allister are both uninteresting so these two episodes won’t do much but at least they’re actually showing Galar characters & Gengar is finally doing something noteworthy. It’s a shame we only got 2 major Galar characters to debut this year though. Can’t wait to have them all rushed in towards the end of the generation lol
Or they do not appear at all. I wouldnt be surprised if that happend tbh. At least we can say Gengar got something, which he maybe will use two or three times at best?

We are so back Zygardebros
please leave

i’m joking but still
I never got the appeal personally so he’s my least favorite of Galar’s Gym Leaders but he’s still one of the better Ghost Type specialists. At least we can both agree that Cilan and his brothers are cool.

IIRC wasn’t there some interview confirming all of the Galar Gym Leaders would appear? Journeys is such a weird thing because we get excited over the bare minimum that other series had regularly. I would’ve preferred Mega Gengar but GMax Gengar is one of the better designs (if only Ash’s was Shiny...) and it least it fits with the generation

It is really weird who or what will appear

Ah ha! So I was right, Ash and Gengar do have to collect the mushrooms to make the soup! Only it doesn't take place in the Isle of Armor but besides Stow-on-Side? I wonder how the anime will explain the major and minor league gym leaders.

Sun and Moon had the same sort of thing with some of its characters and island visits. The cast would be in Ula'ula one week, Melemele the next, and back in Ula'ula the following week. And the captains outside of the main cast were kind of treated weirdly too - Mina was uber forgettable, Ilima wasn't memorable aside from being smoked by Guzma, and Acerola didn't get to appear quite enough for me to love her as much as I do in the games.

This weird thing that Pokémon has been doing with places has been an issue since SM. Since they're no longer following the formulaic "traveling around a region in the order that you earn badges" thing, they've been pretty "jump-all-over-the-place" without a clear structure.

Can we please get the older, old forum back?

Easygoing Luxray.
While I am relieved that this seems to only be development/training related for Gengar, and the actual battle may be later, this part of the summary annoys me. Wouldn't this have been the perfect time to feature Isle of Armor instead of using generic OC forests that conveniently happen to be near Stow-on-Side, conveniently filled with Max Mushrooms?
I totally expect them to make Klara or Avery debut outside the isle and have no relation to the isle's plot.

Gotta say, it’s a little weird seeing Satoshi going to a region but not seemingly a little curious about the Gym Leaders. Ofc, he’s on to bigger and better stuff with the PWC but I figured he’d be a bit more enthusiastic about Galar’s assortment of gyms.

Yay for Onion, Saito’s parallel appearing is swell. Glad he’s not appearing as a PWC competitor, it would feel too “conventional” like with Saito that new transformation -> new challenge so I’m glad it just seems to be Gengar gaining Kyodaimax without using up its “battle shine” nor Ghost vs. Ghost. Now we have half a game region of Galar Gym Leaders, Kibana, Saito, Onion and Poplar.

Onion is kind of cool as a contrast to all the confident battlers we’ve seen this series with him being a more docile young male. It’s nice to have a more bashful male trainer and younger one at that and he doesn’t need his relevance tied to the PWC either. PM excels in good interactions when it’s cast gets extended in episodes like this so I look forward to it.

This whole Gengar needing Max Soup to G-Max plotline would work much better had Ash actually used his Dynamax Band at literally any point in this show.

He's had it for 80 eps now, so it would've been child's play to set up Gengar not having the Gigantamax Factor.

ALL HAIL THE GORILLA-FROG!
Which is idiotic.
That Avery guy REALLY got on my nerves when I was fighting his team on the IoA. I think he's annoying enough to work as a rival character even when divorced from the original context of him being a competitor for Mustard's "armor".

I didn't like Avery very much, but Bede was entertaining with how ironically smug his dialogue would be even as I completely curbstomped his Pokemon.

tbh i thought Avery was attractive so i was able to forgive his godawful pretentiousness

probably not a good philosophy to have

I agree, Bede’s dialogue was pretty hilarious.
