Bulba the Great!

We Do Not Sow
Well, everyone, this is my second stab at a fic, I hope this one is successful. For anyone who doesn't know me, I'm Bulba the Great! (Known as Bulby or Bulbs, Bulba...etc.) My first fic was called One of Many. I hope you like ths one!

Enough talk. Without further ado...

Destined- A Trainer’s Fic by Bulba the Great!

Chapter One

“Grovyle, Dragon Claw!” A cry rang out in the darkness of a tunnel. The figures of two young men were outlined against the pitch black of the Underground Path. Two strangely shaped forms stood in front of the two humans. One stood about four feet tall. A long leaf curved over its head and down to its feet. Clumps of razor-sharp leaves also grew from its wrists. The creature raised its left claw, the tip glowing bright scarlet. It leapt at the other creature, which was shaped like a horse, only its mane burned with bright fire.

“Ponyta, Flame Wheel!” The horse leapt at the other creature, fire engulfing its body.

“Grovyle, Defensive! Detect!” The Grovyle landed swiftly to the ground and raised its two-fingered claws. An icy-blue shield grew in front of it. The Ponyta rebounded from the barrier, which broke. Both creatures landed and turned swiftly to face each other. The Grovyle’s eyes glowed an intense gold, while Ponyta lowered its head and whinnied.

“Ponyta, Take Down-huh?” The Ponyta’s trainer looked up as the lights in the tunnel suddenly turned on. The feminine figure of a police officer walked down a winding staircase to the tunnel floor. Ponyta’s trainer gulped.

“Gotta run!” he yelled. Before the other trainer could even get a look at his face, the teen ran out the other side of the tunnel. Ponyta looked at Grovyle, and then followed its trainer.

“Um, hi, Officer Jenny?” he asked. Officer Jenny got a good look at him for the first time. The boy before him had spiky off-white hair, covered in a cap with camouflage coloring. His eyes were a pleasant shade of brown, and his face had a warm, good-natured look to it.

“What were you doing, battling in the Underground Path?” she asked.

“Well, I…um…the other guy started it?” the trainer said sheepishly, shrugging his broad shoulders.

“I should turn you in. But, you don’t look like a troublemaker. Can I trust you this time…erm…?”

“Chase. Chase Tang!” Chase said, extending his hand. Jenny hesitated, then shook it.

“I’ll let you off this once. But, if you ever cause trouble again, I’ll have to report you. Understand?”

“Yeah! Thanks, Jen.”

“That’s Officer Jenny.”

“Right…” Officer Jenny sighed, and slowly walked back up the staircase.

“Whew! That was a close one, eh, Grovyle?” Chase asked, turning to Grovyle. The olive colored creature nodded. It spoke, saying only its name.

“Grovile, Grove!” The creature closed its eyes and put its thin arms behind its head.

“Well, I guess it’s best we go, eh?” Grovyle nodded.

“You’re a great Pokemon, you know that?” It nodded again.

“Return.” Chase held out a round sphere, roughly the size of an orange. A thin black line split it, and a small circle met inside the line. The ball was colored a bright maroon on one side, and alabaster color on the other. Chase pressed the circle in the middle. The Poke Ball opened up, and let out a jet of scarlet light. Grovyle was engulfed in the beam, and Grovyle was drawn into the ball. It snapped shut. Chase smiled slightly, and then placed the ball alongside five others on a magnetic belt around his waist. Chase started whistling and strolled out the tunnel. He turned the lights out behind him.

……………………………………………..

Chase Tang was fifteen years old. He had set out on his Pokemon journey five years ago, in his hometown of Littleroot. He had traveled to various gyms, taking on trainers and gym leaders. He had won every single battle, even when faced against Flannery, a Fire- typed gym leader. He had confidence he could take the Indigo League pretty nicely, so the Pokemon trainer left Hoenn after making top four in the Hoenn Championships, and traveled to Kanto, the home of the Indigo Plateau.

Chase was currently traveling towards Celadon City, where he and his girlfriend, Kira, were scheduled to have dinner. Chase smiled at the thought of dinner alone with Kira…he fell into a trance and accidentally walked straight into a large man. He was wearing an odd hat, with a feather sticking out of it. The man looked to be traveling, as he had a large backpack on his back. His face was small, with a jet-black moustache running from large sideburns. His eyes were squinted to the point that Chase couldn’t tell what color they were.

“I’m so sorry! Here…”

“No, it’s all right, son. I got it…” the man said in a deep rumble. He squatted over and picked up his feathered hat, which had fallen off.

“I’m so sorry…”

“Satoshi. Call me Satoshi.”

“Right, Sat. Are you a yodeler, or summat?”

“That’s Satoshi. And, no, I’m a Hiker. Can’t you tell?”

“No.”

“Oh, well. Hey, I’ll tell you what. I’m gonna head up to the mountains-”

“What, here? There are no mountains!”

“Not here, kid, surrounding Saffron City!” Satoshi had no hint of malice. He was a good-natured man.

“Oh. Go on…”

“Wha-oh, right. So, I’m heading toward the mountains, and I need to know my Pokemon have got the right stuff, y’know?”

“Oh. Um…wanna cookie?”

“No, you de-I mean, charming prince of a trainer. I want a battle.” Satoshi was starting to feel just a slight edge. How could anyone with anything but a two-celled brain think he needed a cookie in his condition?

“Okay, I get it. All right, let’s get on with it!”

“Right, then. Go, Machoke!” Satoshi pulled out a Poke Ball, and threw it into the air. In a burst of tangerine light, a large grayish colored Pokemon was released. The ball flew back into Satoshi’s hand. Chase sized up the Pokemon. It stood at about five feet, and it was flexing its muscles. The human-shaped Pokemon had small, watery eyes, and a leer that not even a mother could love. Three ridges rose from its small head, and the Pokemon was naked. Well, almost naked. Underneath its large, muscular chest was a tight fitting belt/diaper type thing.

“What kind of trainer releases a Pokemon in underwear?” Chase thought to himself.

“Now, you choose a Pokemon!”

“I’m getting to that. Go, Banette!” Chase threw another Poke Ball; only this type had a blue top, with two red stripes running through it. In a flash of royal purple, a puppet-like Pokemon appeared. It was an ashen color, and its head was odd to look at. The Pokemon’s mouth was zippered shut, to begin with. Its eyes were a dark, piercing red. And it had a ponytail-like thing running from the left side of its head, which was separated into three spikes. The Ghost hovered roughly two feet from the ground.

“A Ghost-type Pokemon? That’s not fair! Fighting types can’t even touch Ghosts!” cried Satoshi in protest.

“My point exactly. Besides, any trainer who specializes in fighting types should equip their Pokemon with either a special attack, or the Foresight maneuver.”

“I know that. Are you calling me a dimwit?” Satoshi was mad now. He didn’t like people making fun of him.

“No. Anyway…Banette, Shadow Ball!”

“Bane, Banette!” it cried. The Pokemon conjured a dark ball of power in its three-fingered hands. The ball crackled with what looked like purple jolts of electricity.

“No fair, you pulled a fast one! Machoke, Flamethrower!” Satoshi ordered. Machoke flexed its muscles.

“Machoke, you already spent three hours in front of the mirror, look at you muscles later!” Satoshi cried in frustration. Machoke nodded, and put its hands in front of its body. Inside, an ember formed. Suddenly, a large fire burst from between its hands. The Flamethrower attack shot toward Banette. Banette just then released Shadow Ball. The two attacks rushed towards each other. Shadow Ball pushed Flamethrower away and battered into Machoke. The Pokemon fell over, the wind knocked out of it.

“Come on, Sat! Give your Pokemon some quality training!”

“Machoke, stand up!” Satoshi yelled, ignoring Chase’s comment. Machoke pulled its body up, brushing itself off.

“Machoke, Rock Slide!” Satoshi yelled.

“Banette, Psychic!” Chase his Pokemon’s eyes intensify, and everything seemed to stop. Machoke was suddenly lifted from the ground.

“Machoke!” The Pokemon cried, struggling to fight the attack.

“Now, throw it!” Chase ordered. Banette nodded and threw the Pokemon down a steep ledge, and it landed on the ground, hard. Its small eyes closed, opened, and then closed again.

“Machoke’s out!” Chase yelled. He ran to give a high five to Banette, but Satoshi stopped him.

“One more,” he said. He pulled Machoke back, and took another Poke Ball from his belt.

“Let’s see how you deal with this! Xatu, let’s go!” Satoshi threw the Poke Ball into the battlefield. In a flash of turquoise light, a winged Pokemon flew out from it (literally). Chase sized up his new opponent. It was about four feet high, and its body was covered by lime-green down. Alabaster feathers, striped at the end by red and black, coated its large wings. It had four eyes, seemingly; two on its stomach, and another two on its head. They were almond shaped, staring blankly at Chase. Its beak jutted out at Chase, curving downward at the tip. It landed on the ground.

“Xaa, tu,” It cried in a monotone, almost mechanical voice.

“You weren’t expecting that, now, were you laddy?” Satoshi grinned at Chase.

“Don’t worry, Banette! Just give it another Shadow Ball!”

“Bay!” The Pokemon started powering up another ball of dark light.

“Xatu, Night Shade!” Satoshi cried. Xatu’s eyes intensified, and two rays of purple light shot from them. The two Ghost-type attacks collided in midair. In a small explosion, the attacks knocked both Pokemon to the ground. Xatu climbed up. Banette, however, was knocked out.

“Return, Banette.” Chase held out the Poke Ball. He didn’t look too worried, however.

“Absol, I choose you!” Chase released his final Pokemon, confidence building. In a burst of silver color, a large, quadruped Pokemon appeared. It had smooth white fur, and long legs, ending in abnormally large claws. A sickle-like tail was poking from its back, navy blue in color. A shaggy white mane that stretched to the Pokemon’s front knees surrounded its head. It had two almond-shaped eyes, and a small black nose. Another sickle-like object protruded the right side of its ear.

“Abb…” It growled menacingly. It crouched down, and leapt…at Chase. Absol knocked him over, licking his face.

“Absol, get off of me!” Chase cried, laughing at the same time (he was ticklish).

“Kid, control that thing or forfeit!” Satoshi yelled. Chase pushed Absol off of him, getting to his feet. Absol willingly stepped back into the battlefield.

“Right…so, Absol, Bite!” Chase ordered. Absol nodded and raised its front paw. It hit Xatu in the face, knocking the Pokemon to the ground.

“Absol, I said Bite!”

“Ab.” The Pokemon nodded and raised its paw again. Xatu was hit back to the ground.

“What’s wrong with your Pokemon, kid?” asked Satoshi.

“It likes to use Slash. A lot.” Chase winced when Absol knocked him over once again.

“C’mon, Absol, imagine we’re in a gym battle. Remember what I told you about listening? Pull it together, buddy!” Chase stood up once Absol jumped off his chest and landed gracefully on the ground.

“Now, finish it with Bite!” Chase cried. Absol obeyed and opened its mouth wide, clamping down on the struggling Xatu. The Pokemon flinched, and fell limp to the ground, unconscious.

“That’s the way, Absol!” Chase cheered. Satoshi gritted his teeth and pulled his Xatu back. Chase hugged Absol, who had knocked him over again, and returned the Pokemon. The two males stood before each other, motionless. Chase thrust his hand forward, smiling. Satoshi put his out, too, although he was hesitant.

“Good battle, mate!” Chase said jovially.

“Right. Well, kid, I best be headin’ off. See ya ‘round.” Satoshi pat him on the back and strode off. Chase stood still for a moment, sucking air back into his lungs.

“What a narly dude!” he thought to himself. Chase shrugged, and continued toward Celadon.

……………………………………………..

Chase strolled into Celadon’s finest restaurant, The Finest Hotel in Celadon. He was now wearing a black suit, which made him look very mature. As he normally didn’t look it, he felt he should at least try to impress Kira tonight. He asked a passing waiter which table was reserved for him. After a moment, realizing it was the janitor, Chase hurried over to the manager’s desk. However, he spotted Kira on the way over. He waved, and she flashed a spotless smile. He slid into the booth.

“How’s it going, Kira?” He asked, putting his arm around her. She was looking fine tonight. Her shiny dark brown hair was pulled in an elegant bun, and she was wearing a sleeveless royal purple shirt, a gold necklace around her neck.

“Chase, I have to tell you something,” she said tentatively.

“Sure, right after dinner.”

“Chase, it can’t wait. See, there’s this guy…”

“What, did he say you looked stunning? Beautiful? Radiant? Those aren’t opinionated, Kira; they’re true.”

“No. See, He’s really cute. And, he’s closer to my house than you are. He asked me out yesterday…”

“You didn’t accept, did you?” Chase’s eyes widened when Kira answered.

“I’m really, really sorry Chase.”

“No…you can’t be…”

“Chase?”

“I’ll see you around, Kira.” He stood up and stormed out of the restaurant. Kira was left, a tear rolling down her cheek.

……………………………………………..

“What could she see in that other guy? What?!” Chase was laying on the ground outside Celadon City, his Grovyle splayed out next to him. Grovyle shrugged its skinny shoulders, staring up at the dark sky.

“I gave her one whole year of my life, and she blows me off for some football playing jerk!”

“Grovye?”

“Okay, I don’t know he plays football. But he is a jerk!”

“Grove.” Grovyle shook its head sadly.

“Well, we best turn in for the night, Grovyle.” Chase stood up slowly, biting his lip. Grovyle followed him as both walked toward the Celadon Pokemon Center. Chase looked at the moon sadly before stepping through the door. He frowned, and shut the door. Enough for one night.

To Be Continued…

Thanks, Cs32!

Decent. Good feel and wondrously done. But I don't think that you did enough background information on chance though....

Well, I'm glad you think it's decent. You're right, I didn't really give much backround for Chase. I'm going to fill that in the next few chapters. Don't worry; I've got a history for Chase.

I'm glad that this fic is getting good reviews! Thanks, guys.

Cheers!

Very Cool Fanfic you've got here. Good description, orginal storyline (nice to see a fanfic with a trainer on with his journey rather than choosing his first pokemon) and nice endding to the first chapter.

Pretty cool first chapter Bulbs. I can see you've learned from your last fic. I could really tell what the characters are like. Chase is determined but a good sportsman, Kira's shallow and goes after the nearest guy she meets and Satoshi is polite and likes a good match (i hope i got those right)

Good luck with more

Nice to hear that, Lupin. I should hope my story's original, shouldn't I? :D

Pretty cool first chapter Bulbs. I can see you've learned from your last fic.

To the period. But, Chase is also extremely warm and friendly and "cool" natured. I hope I brought that across well^^;;

Cheers!

Destined-Chapter Two

Chase Tang walked out of the Celadon Hotel, feeling disturbed. He had had an odd dream last night. A large source of light had appeared before him, speaking without a mouth, wordlessly, telling Chase he had a part to play in a larger tale. The dream had ended with Chase hanging suspended in front of a large, black space, looking at what looked like a large family tree. His name was interconnected with family, friends, and Pokemon whom he had known dearly. But then, his current Pokemon suddenly merged with his name, racing toward eight other lines. Six were Pokemon names. Chase had woken sweating, and inhaling quicker than normal. Chase breathed in deeply, shivering at the thought of last night’s very odd dream, and went in search of a bare patch of land where he could start his daily training.

Chase was sitting quietly under a beech tree, meditating peacefully. He went through this every day, hoping it would help him become one with his Pokemon. Grovyle often went through the ritual with him, hoping to achieve greater goals. It was now sitting just above Chase in the tree, its clawed feet just above Chase’s head. Chase was thinking about the dream he had last night, pondering what it could mean. He kept coming back to the theory that he would soon meet some trainers with six Pokemon between them. Seeing as that was an obvious, he stayed at that.

“Okay, Grovyle. I think one hour is enough for us. Let’s get prepared for our battle with Will!” Chase grinned confidently, thinking back three days. He had been feeling cocky that day, so much in fact he sent out a challenge to all of the current members of the Elite Four, the four most powerful trainers in the Kanto and Johto regions. Will, Psychic extraordinaire, had replied to his challenge earliest, first asking for a complete resume from Chase. After reviewing it, he agreed to a battle, asking Chase to meet him at Celadon City, where he was going to check on his fourth cousin, twice removed, Erika, in three days.

Today is the day, thought Chase. Today I will test whether I really am worthy of the Pokemon League.

“Grovyle, Bullet Seed!” Chase was training his Grovyle for this particular battle. He wanted to see whether he could get it to evolve. He had recently become aware Grovyle had the urge to evolve again, and Chase also realized it might impress Will if he had a Sceptile by his side. Grovyle accepted its trainer’s order, opening its mouth and releasing yellow-green seeds that collided with the beech tree with such force the tree snapped in half.

“Awesome, Grovyle!” Chase cheered his Pokemon on, as it displayed a wide knowledge of attacks that Chase had taught it over five years. He remembered back when he had first met Grovyle, as a Treecko. Professor Birch had known even then Chase had potential, and pointed out a particularly ambitious Treecko, thinking Chase would jump at the chance. Chase had jumped for the opportunity. He was brought unpleasantly back to earth by a beeping sound. He looked down at his watch. The alarm was going off.

“Oh, shi…aving cream!” he exclaimed, realizing that in training Grovyle, he was running late for his meeting with Will! He hurriedly returned Grovyle to its Poke Ball and dashed toward the Celadon Pokemon Center. As the sliding doors closed behind him, a laugh rang through the room. Chase looked for the source of the laugh. Standing at the front counter in front of the local Nurse Joy was a tall, slender man. His head was thrown back, and he was laughing jovially. His head was covered in a sleek, royal purple mop of hair that fell to his shoulders, falling over his horn-rimmed glasses as well. His eyes were actually an odd color of magenta, which made Chase suspect they were genetically altered. A deep scarlet colored scarf was wrapped around his neck, dropping onto a navy blue vest, covering a bloodred shirt. Chase didn’t like being laughed at, but he wasn’t sure how to address a member of the Elite Four.

“Why are you laughing at me, du-sir-Mr. Will?” Chase asked cautiously. Will closed his mouth and looked Chase over critically.

“You’re in hurry for that battle, eh, Chase Tang?” He had a rather high, yet warm sounding voice.

“Yes, Mr. Will, Sir.” Chase downcast his eyes. When he looked up, Will was smirking at him again.

“Is this your first encounter with an Elite member, Chase?”

“Yes. Sir.” Will’s smirk turned to a warm smile.

“Well, you’d best learn that we’re people, too, whatever you may think.” Chase nodded his head vigorously.

“Now, Chase, would you like to test your abilities against me now?”

“Yes, please, Mr. Will, sir.”

“Just call me Will.”

“Okay, Mr. Will, sir.” Will sighed, and turned to Nurse Joy.

“Joy, would you be so kind as to open up battle arena C for us?”

“Of course, Elite Member Will.” Will groaned. He wished people would learn to just call him Will. Nurse Joy pulled a key card from a necklace around her neck and led the two upstairs. There were several doors leading from the upstairs landing. Chase noticed engraved on the floor in front of each door was a symbol, such as two Poke Balls clashing together, or a trading machine. Each door also had a label above it, bearing the phrases “Battle Room A” or “Union Room 2b.” Joy led them past Battle Rooms A and B, through which Chase could hear the unmistakable sounds of battle. Joy inserted the key card into Battle Room C’s slot, and the door slid smoothly open. Inside, Chase gaped in awe at the battlefield. It had a plain, beige colored floor boxed by white-colored stripes, a Poke Ball design in the exact middle, and the entire floor was constricted on three sides by a high-topped fence. Behind the fence were rowed bleachers, all filled to the max by admirers of Will, hoping to see him take down his newest opponent. The rumor was that this trainer was undefeated, had gotten fourth in the Hoenn Championships merely because he forfeited before defeating his opponent. This made them even more anxious to watch Will crush Chase like a bug. Joy closed the door behind them, wishing Chase luck. He gulped. As Will stepped into the room, the entire audience burst into wild applause. He flashed a handsome smile and waved to them, taking notepads from between bars of the fence and autographing them.

All this was making Chase feel very small and insignificant, and he wondered how he could have even considered this. Will finally turned to Chase and shook his hand.

“I hope you are as good as painted, Chase.” Chase gave a weak smile and nodded. Will gave the thumbs-up to a young woman sitting on a bench on the sidelines. She nodded back at him, and stood up, grabbing a pair of flags, one red, the other green. The lady paced the floor to a small platform near the center of the stage, and raised her flags to quiet the crowd.

“Let the challenger take his place on the field. According to the rules of Elite Member Will, this shall be a three-on-three Pokemon battle, with no time limit. Only the challenger will be allowed substitutions. Without further ado, let this match begin!” With that, the lady brought her flags down with a wave, and Will raised a Poke Ball.

“Good luck, Chase.” He threw the ball. It landed in the center of the field, and broke open, revealing, in a flash of cobalt light, a light purple cat-like Pokemon. It stood gracefully on four legs, its small head lowered towards Chase. Large, pointed ears rose from the Pokemon’s head, and a small teal gem was inlaid above the Pokemon’s large, slanted eyes, which glowed a transparent violet color. Its slender body curved downward, ending in a long tail with two tips. The Pokemon cried out in a soft, high-pitched voice.

“Espee!” The Espeon trotted loyally to its master’s side. Will patted his Pokemon’s head.

“Now the challenger will choose his Pokemon!” called the referee. Chase nodded and slowly pulled a Poke Ball from his belt.

“This better work…go, Nidorino!” Chase threw the ball into the air, and in an aura of misty light, a purple-colored Pokemon took the field. It was also a quadruped, but it had shorter, stockier legs than Espeon’s. Deep purple spots were thrown randomly over its strong body, and a row of barbs ran up its back, a row that reached the back of its head. The Pokemon had a fierce-looking sharp horn rising over its narrowed eyes, and its mouth was curved into a frown, sharp teeth protruding from under its lips. It had large ears rising from further back on its head, sticking almost straight up with adrenaline. It pumped it legs.

“Nido!” it growled in a low, gravelly voice.

“The first round shall be Espeon versus Nidorino. Let the round start!”

“Espeon, Psybeam!” Will cried to his Pokemon. The catlike Pokemon pounced lightly on Nidorino, its eyes pulsing a deep red. Nidorino started thrashing around, trying desperately to throw Espeon off its back.

“Nidorino, Headbutt Espeon away!” Chase ordered. Nidorino stopped thrashing and jerked its head upwards. Espeon fell free of Nidorino’s reach, but as it catapulted into the air, the lithe Pokemon released Psybeam. Two bright, multicolored beams lanced from Espeon’s large eyes. Chase reacted a second too late, and the beams hit Nidorino full power.

“Nidorino!” Chase cried in astonishment. Will grinned as Nidorino let out a low moan, and collapsed. The referee announced Nidorino’s defeat.

“This isn’t like a Gym Battle, is it, Chase?” Will returned Espeon to its Poke Ball, as Chase did the same.

“How powerful is this guy?” Chase asked himself, followed immediately by a low curse as he remembered this man was an Elite Four member. How could I have forgotten that? Chase shook himself as Will threw another Poke Ball. A second later, another unknown opponent took shape in front of Chase. This Pokemon was colored a warm pink, and Chase’s first reaction was that it wasn’t very fierce. It had wide, empty looking eyes, and a dopey looking smile. Crowning its head was what looked like an angry sort of crustacean, with a ruby inset on the top. It was almost like this Pokemon was a royal type. A red and white bib-type thing wrapped around its neck. The Pokemon stood on two legs, giving it a very unbalanced look. Chase doubted a Pokemon that looked so slow and dumb could be a worthy opponent.

“Slow…King…” It murmured listlessly in a deep voice. It yawned and lay down on the battlefield.

“Choose your next Pokemon, Chase!” Will called. Chase nodded reluctantly and picked a Pokemon carefully from his belt.

“Tyrogue, Go!” Chase cried. His next choice materialized in front of Slowking. This new Pokemon was also a biped, but it had a much more serious look than Slowking. Three horn-like things rose in stubs from its head, giving it a fierce-looking Headbutt. Its skin was a mottled fuscia color, from its thin torso, to its skinny legs. Bulging around the waist were burnt sienna colored knickers, but they did not make the Pokemon appear foolish. Bandages were wrapped around it stomach and wrists.

“Tyro!” it cried in a mildly high voice.

“Let the second round start!” called the referee.

“Slowking, Water Gun! Hit Tyrogue in the stomach!” Will ordered. Slowking slowly stood on its hind legs and opened its mouth as if yawning.

“Tyrogue, you can beat it with your speed! Double Kick!” Chase yelled. Tyrogue dove at Slowking, its feet aiming at the Pokemon’s head. Chase realized his mistake a split second later. Tyrogue was shot back at its trainer by a gigantic blast of water from Slowking. Tyrogue skidded across the floor, grunting from the blast. The referee declared Slowking the winner yet again.

“Chase, you must be aware that you’ve used two Pokemon with type disadvantages against mine. Why aren’t you using your head?” Will asked tauntingly. Chase felt as if he had been slapped. Why hadn’t he realized this? He had become famous for winning his battles at disadvantages, but Chase realized now was not a time to reflect on that.

“Choose your last Pokemon, Chase,” Will said, returning Slowking to its Poke Ball. Chase held Tyrogue’s Poke Ball out to pull it back.

“Now, I’m saving my best Pokemon for last. In the meantime…go, Espeon!” Will shouted, releasing his catlike Pokemon again. Espeon landed gracefully on the floor, and growled at Chase, ready to fight for its trainer again.

“Okay…uh, Grovyle, you’re up!” Chase yelled, throwing Grovyle’s Poke Ball. Grovyle shook itself upon being released, but it quickly took up its fierce battle pose, one claw touching the ground.

“Grovyle, Bullet Seed on Espeon!” Chase yelled.

“Espeon, avoid it,” Will said carelessly. Grovyle opened its mouth, releasing the large bullet-like seeds at Espeon. Espeon attempted a jump, but Bullet Seed made a direct hit before Espeon even got off the ground.

“Whoa! How’d your Grovyle do that?” Will yelped.

“Through a lot of hard training,” Chase said triumphantly. Will looked scared for a split second, but he reset his face back into its cocky champion expression.

“It doesn’t matter. Espeon, Swift!” Will cried. Espeon nodded, opening it mouth. Small, gold colored stars flew towards Grovyle, who tensed its body. Chase knew this was a good strategy, because Swift was a move that could not be avoided. Unless…

“Grovyle, Detect!” Chase yelled. Grovyle raised its skinny arms, creating a light blue barrier in front of it. Espeon stopped Swift abruptly when it was merely redirected at the floor.

“Now, Grovyle, Pursuit!” Chase yelled. Grovyle jumped high into the air, its head brushing the high ceiling, and dove towards Espeon, both claws in front of it. Grovyle started to spin about halfway down, to increase effectiveness of the attack.

“Espeon, Sand Attack!” Espeon turned its back on Grovyle, kicking at the battlefield floor. A fine layer of sand was sent towards Grovyle, obviously meant to blind it. But Grovyle was moving so fast it merely brushed the sand away. Espeon’s eyes widened in shock, but before it could do anything else, Grovyle slammed into Espeon, throwing the purple cat halfway across the field. Grovyle stumbled a bit from impact, but then resumed its battle pose, head down. Espeon, which should have been knocked out by the Pursuit attack, stood back up again.

“What?” Chase cried in astonishment. Will nodded, taking his turn at smirking.

“My Espeon is much more well trained than you could imagine, Chase Tang.” Chase reacted by yelling to Grovyle.

“Grovyle, Mega Drain!” Grovyle stood up, reaching out one hand, and closed its eyes. A green light started to form around its forearm, which then extended to Espeon. The cat tried resisting, but it was held firmly by this Psychic-like force. Grovyle’s body straightened out, its eyes opened, and even its skin looked fresher.

“Espeon!” Will cried, because his Pokemon was doing the opposite of Grovyle, its knees shaking, its gaze growing blurry.

“That’s enough, Grovyle.” The Pokemon lowered its arm. Espeon stumbled, but remained on its feet.

“Still not enough,” Chase said quietly, trying to think of another strategy.

“Espeon, Morning Sun!” Will called, desperate to heal his Pokemon’s energy.

“Grovyle, stop it! Use Screech!” Chase ordered, plugging his ears. Grovyle opened its mouth, releasing an extremely high, grating screech, rendering Espeon useless. The feline fell to the floor, trembling from the attack. Grovyle kept the attack going, to Will’s displeasure.

“Grovyle, Dragonbreath!” Chase yelled, his ears still plugged. Grovyle stopped the screeching abruptly, surprising Espeon. Before the cat could stand up, though, a stream of foul, green-colored energy blasted into it. With a small explosion, Espeon was rendered unconscious.

“How’s that for a battle, Will?” Chase asked, pumping his fist. Will fell back, shacked that Chase had defeated one of his prized Pokemon.

“Espeon…return, my friend.” He held out Espeon’s Poke Ball, pulling it back.

“Grovyle, keep it up, bud!” Chase yelled. Grovyle responded by slashing at the air, ready to face whichever Pokemon came out next.

“Go on, Will.” Will was standing at the other end, looking down at a Poke Ball he had taken off his belt. He seemed to be debating whether to use it or not.

“C’mon, Will! Crush that loser like the bug he is!” cried an admiring fan from the crowd. The entire crowd started chanting the same phrase. Will sighed, and threw the Poke Ball.

“It ends here, Chase.” Chase gasped as he realized which Pokemon he was seeing take shape in front of him.

“No…surely not…” The darkened Pokemon flapped its wings, causing a small earthquake in the arena.

“Lugia, Aeroblast!”

To be continued….

....Well?

Cheers!

That was cool Bulbs. Especially Lugia at the end, which should be illegal, but it should be a cool battle. Descriptions fine, as is everything else.

Good luck with more.

FANTASTIC BATTLE BULBA. I love that cliffhanger endding, but I do have to ask though.
“Let the challenger take his place on the field. According to the rules of Elite Member Will, this shall be a three-on-three Pokemon battle, with no time limit. Only the challenger will be allowed substitutions.

Yet you had Will substitute both Espeon and Slowking. And even if you just forgot about that, how come you didn't have Will send out Slowking again, have Grovyle defeat it and then have the cliffhanger with Lugia?

Well, time for some answering of reviews...

Why should that be illegal? Well, it will be a good battle, I promise!

Thanks, Lupin...I didn't know it was that good...

Oh...I forgot the no substitutions thing...I meant only partway through a battle, though...as in, Will can't pull back Espeon and release Slowking unless one of Chase's Pokemon are defeated. Why I didn't make him send Slowking out...Will was in shock that Chase could actually defeat one of his Pokemon. Before that, he said he would save "best for last", because he figured he wouldn't need to resort to Lugia. However, when Grovyle took his Espeon down, he realized that Slowking, with a type disadvantage, probably couldn't stand up to Grovyle, so instead, Will used his best...Lugia. Does that explain it?

Cheers!

That was pretty awesome. I almost forgot about this story. It hadn't been updated since like a million years ago and I didn't remember what the name of it was. I only saw like one spelling mistake. When you said:

shacked that Chase had

Is that supposed to be shaken or shaked?

Another mistake I saw was:

Seeing as that was an obvious, he stayed at that

obvious is an adjective so it doesn't fit here. Probably a careless mistake seeing as how the rest of your chapter was perfect. That "obvious" needs to be modifying something like a noun. Or it could be:

Seeing as that was obvious, he stayed at that...

Those were like the only two mistakes I could find and the description in this chapter was...so AWESOME. Like on description you get 12/10. It was just perfect. keep it up!

Nice one Bulba. I just got home a bit ago and once I saw your PM, I came straight here. I like the cliffhanger at the end, even though it should be illegal to use a legendary pokemon like Motig said. Still though, great chapter.

Sorry, my mom kept banning me from the computer, or else I would have updated sooner...

Oh, that's supposed to be shocked...funny, I read it over about three times, can't see how I missed that.

As that was an obvious...I meant "as that was a given", but...yeah. Thanks for pointing that out, though.

Oh, well...I think you guys would prefer a Lugia/Grovyle battle as opposed to a...say, Jynx/Grovyle or something like that...it just brings the tension up a notch. I mean, Chase would need every trick in the book to take down a legendary Pokemon that is trained by an elite trainer...see? And besides, the battle is going by Will's standards, so of course he wouldn't make it illegal to use legendaries! Glad you liked it, really. *Pie for all*

Cheers!

Excellent Chapter, Bulba.
Will there be any history explaining why Chase forfeited before beating his opponent?

Yes, Cs32, pie. Yayness. :D

Excellent Chapter, Bulba.

Now I just realized I need to create a story for that...see, I originally didn't plan for me to say that, originally the fic said "fourth in the Hoenn Champs", but that contradicted my whole "Chase is undefeated" thing, so I added that he forfeited. Well, I gotta make a story for that now... *sigh* :D
