Diamond & Pearl Pokémon Contests

Diamond & Pearl Pokémon Contests

How do you think that the Pokémon Contests in the next generation will be? I'm a big fan of the Contests and I have to say that from what I have played in Hoenn, or watched in the Anime, they are better than battles. Displaying more originality and love for Pokémon other than just having two or four of them try to hurt the other one. Hopefully they'll add new features into it, like a new concept, round, or type of competition.

Here are some of my ideas:
1. When Pokémon participate in a Contest, they can get experience and grow stats, except their Contest Stats grow.
2. Something similar to Contest Battles, like having another health bar (for the Contest Points), except that you have to keep both of them active.
3. New type- Freestyle Contest. Do whatever you want in here and you don't have to worry about less or more points.

You can also make up new ideas for the Anime as well, since this is why many people like Pokémon Contests so much:

1. From my ContestShipping, they can make Contests with certain limitations, like only this one type/size/gender/weight/nature/family,etc.
2. They can make it so that Contests impact the journey more than battles.
3. Have new judges more often than just the regular three that already come and watch Appeals and Battles.

Come up with whatever you want to change or enhance, just remember not to be crazy and don't talk about how you hate Contests. Don't forget to tell why you want things to be like that, okay? Have fun!

Yeah, ok!
They definitely need to include a battling segment in the Cotnests, similiar to the way the anime does it. The Contests have gotten extremely popular thanks to the show, (they're more popular than the game counterparts), so GameFreak should take note of this and try to improve them.

Hey! Listen!
I'd love if there were more contests than just 4, as in R/S/E. I'd also like a battling segment like the one in the anime.

Yeah put battles in the contests. We're the battle outcomes effect your overall score.

How about contests being a combination of the Battle Arena and Battle Dome?

After the regular contest round is done, the top two from each 'division' could then take place in a Battle Arena style tournament where instead of how much damage being done just the focus, the appeal and the correct timing (super effectiveness for example) of the moves could be factors in the battles also.

I would also like to see moves being strung together and an enhancement of the combo system like in the anime. For example, Silver Wind and String Shot could damage and slow the opponent down or something like that.

That's what a lot of people like to do during their ContestShipping. Right now, we can't control what's going to happen in the Anime and Games, but we can at least imagine what the thing is going to be like by writing it down. For example, in my RPG, there are NO Gym Leaders and 16 Contest Halls, where you go and win super-cute ribbons instead of the predicable badges. Go here if you want to read the thing.

Yeah they should also have it set as you need 5 ribbons from each class to go to the next towns contest.

one love
While I could see a battle feature implemented within the contests and don't care one iota as long as they remain enjoyable, I suspect that GameFreak wants to keep the contests an area of the game where you must focus on an aspect other than that Pokemon's battling capability. Personally, I would prefer some innovation that could be considered unique to the games in addition to - or, in lieu of - adding battles to the contests.

Pairing up Pokemon worked well in battles, why not try it in contests? You would enter two Pokemon within one contest, and both of them would conduct their appeals at the same time. Each of them would have their own score still; however, that score can be enhanced by strategic use of simulataneous moves. Many things will be doubled or combined - the audience eter would now become ten, the score of your Pokemon would be averaged and used as the score with which you are judged against other, etc. If you use two moves with opposite effects (e.g. you use a move that moves your Pokemon to position 1 and the other uses one that moves you to position 4), there is no effect in that regard.

If battle contests are implemented, I would prefer they remain a different category from the standard contests.

WHERE IS PIDGEOT?!
i hope that it's like animé, where you can make some sort of routine with special items (eg frisbee etc) and then get into the final round in which you battle the opponent whilst losing life on that bar, depending on how good your moves are. that would be wicked.

I like that any Pokemon, uber or not, can enter a Pokemon Contest in R/S/E... If D/P does end up adding battles to contests (assuming contests will return) they'd better not ban certain Pokemon from it.

Contest Battles can work way different from the way that they do so from the regular one. Like for example, you know the Contest Appeals that you do in the game so that you can get extra points; whenever you make a Combo, the points that the judge gives to you is doubled. Think of it like a real life contest when you do a dance-off. But there would be more factors than just making the opponent faint in the battle.

Well I agree contests being in D/P & if it is I think that they'll add new features to make it more intersting.

Being able to groom your pokemon with an item or there is a groomer in the game to make your pokemon pretty (and the difference should be visible) so they can score more points in round 1. ^___^

They're definetly a unique aspect of pokemon that should be re-implemented in the fourth generations. Things I feel that should be added to enhance the contest experience:

- As mentioned over and over again, battling. Now, I don't feel as if it should be exactly battling, but more a battling-contest mix, in which each pokemon has HP determined by their contest stats. Then, strength of attacks will be determine again by stats - a higher tough stat will make a stronger tough attack.
- Touch screen additions to the contests. This could really be a way to implement the touch screen in a unique way, without tackiness. For example, the touch screen could be used to gain appeal points, or even, dare I say it, groom your pokemon for contests. I know it's a talked about, and very put down idea, but it if done well, could really be a successful new addition.

That's what I meant from the start! The other people here want the regular old Pokémon Battle stuff. The main reason why these Contests were made was so that you can escape the old and regular thing. Make it the regular attack and something happens, but add something that would make the whole idea different than the others! Like Contest Points being reduced when you miss or backfire or something like that.
