I know in the translated version electric tale of Pikachu and the following graphic novel had a Star Trek reference here and there.

My question, were they there in the original Japanese version?

Whats the 'Star Trek reference' you speak of?

References. Just in the first book Ash said "resistance is futile" and named Pikachu Jean-Luc and there was a like Star Fleet insignia on Pikachu's chest. I don't know about the other books because I haven't read them.

oh, I recall seeing a scan of the Japanese version of that scene where Satoshi's nicknaming his Pokemon, and yes, I think I recall that he really did use the name "Jean-Luc Pikachu" originally.

That's amazing... Red's a Trekkie!

Actually, Ash/Satoshi is the trekkie because this manga was very loosely based on the anime. (Though I thought it as much better than the anime like all the other mangas.)
