Oh my god, these ended up way bigger than I thought they'd be. X/ This is what I get for basically going like: "Hmm... What's missing from this cast... Oh, I know! A trickster and a healer!" Look what happened.
Hopefully they're fine, especially with how Dinadan's healing works... Because the only other alternative I could think of for his capability of healing is that he's an Eternal whose spark is healing but doesn't know that. And that Zaza owns a pretty big business. I just wanted to see how much I could, well, push it in terms of what kind of characters I can make. And that this is how they meet up with the Guardians and why they haven't joined until now. X/
Name: Dinadan Snow
Species: Mistymon
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Appearance: As expected of his species, he's more man than monster in appearance. Standing at somewhere between six and seven feet, he looks like what humans would expect of a "mage knight". Over the red bodysuit he has he wears armor only over his chest, forearms and shins, with some kind of "flap" over his thighs that are attached to an ornate golden belt.
All of the pieces are white with yellow rims and patterns and have a small blue gem, specifically on his shoe, his vambrace, his "flaps" and the center of his belt. His chest armor has shoulder pads that make it look like he has dragon horns on his shoulders. Down the center is a purple cloth with yellow patterns on it as well, extending all the way to a loincloth, for lack of a better word, that reaches to the middle of his shins.
On his back is a completely purple cloak that can easily cover him. His hat looks similar to the one Mickey Mouse wears in the sequence in Fantasia, "Sorcerer's Apprentice", except completely purple and that it has white cloth extensions that covers his head, except for his face, similar to what nuns wear. What does cover his face though is a golden mouth guard that detaches by un-clipping it from the back of his head. For accessories, he wears a necklace, made up of beads that are also purple with a red gem in the center of the biggest bead. Over his brown gloves he has six silver rings, three on each hand, that are on his thumb, pointer and middle fingers.
And finally, he has with him a floating crystal ball and a golden sword with runes on it. The sword is just very sturdy and strong, and the ball, also with the same qualities, is mainly where he keeps track of his patients, similar to the orbs Wisemon use.
Personality: The first thing others notice of Dinadan is that he's very, very cheerful, to the point that some start to wonder if he ever stops smiling or whether that smile is real. When they realize that yes, he smiles so often that it might as well be permanent and that it's real, they'll also think he's dumb or childish because no form of insult or jeering fazes him in a negative way. Say his healing technique is terrible? He'll try to improve it. Make a compliment that's backhanded? He'll gladly take it. Say he's weak? He'll only ask how to get stronger. This often infuriates those who try to get a rise out of him.
Adding to his childish demeanor, he has apparently no filter because he says whatever comes to mind and feels the needs to be said. And I mean everything, from musings and mental notes to insults and compliments. To say the least, he's gotten in trouble plenty of times because of the latter two, especially with males and females respectively. As such, he can sometimes come off as arrogant to males and flirty for females. And sometimes what may seem like an insult or flirting is really just, as mentioned, his observations of what he thinks is the truth or making a note to himself for later.
Which is why most Digimon are surprised to find that he's a very good healer, and not just in his healing capabilities. As any good healer should, he takes his duties seriously. And by seriously, I mean he'll always heal others who need it, and doing whatever is appropriate and needed at the time. If the patient is a crying child, he'll be gentle and careful about it. If it's a young adult or teenager who's pretending they're not in pain, he'll scold them not to ignore their injuries if the battle is over. And if it's a patient who just refuses to be healed whether from panic or sheer stubbornness, he won't tolerate their bullshit and even tranquilize or restrain them himself if necessary.
His patient's health take first priority, including their mental health, as well as their safety. As such, he also won't tolerate bullshit from others towards his patient. If it's an honest consideration that his way of treatment isn't helping, especially for the mental cases, then he'll consider it. But only if they want to help the patient. Otherwise he'll act like a dragon protecting its gold if anyone, in any way, wants to harm his patients. And he will defend his patients with his life.
For the most part, he treats his patients the same as everyone else, with care, kindness and absolutely no filter, including children. That often gets him into trouble, but it's not that wants to be mean. Other than the fact that, well, he has no filter, he gives children as much respect as adults and will always be honest about his patient's situation, even if it's something they, or the ones who care about them, might not want to hear.
And it's usually these moments where others realize that despite his near constant cheeriness, he does feel other emotions and, just like with his words, he does little to actually hide his feelings. It's just that most of the time, it only really happens when he's not healing someone because he's so focused on doing all he can so that they can make it. And it's most likely to happen if he wasn't able to save someone no matter how hard he tried and he feels each loss keenly. It is a grim reality he has accepted not too long after he started his path of a healer, but it always hurts.
But he's still as focused as when he was younger on his goal to be the very best healer he can be, if not more. For each life he couldn't save, there's another that he did, one that might not have made it if he wasn't there. Because of this, he has a habit of pushing himself to exhaustion, though he does make sure to find the time to rest to make up for it. Even if he's a bit dense at times, even he knows the irony of a healer who can't take care of himself.
Speaking of that, because of how his healing works, he eats a lot, way too much than any one Digimon should be able to eat. He's always carrying some sort of snack. And, more often than not, is the one to taste or outright chug down anything that others wouldn't dare eat. But as long as it's edible, and it won't harm his health, he doesn't care. And because he's a healer, and has treated and learned from plenty of humans, he's quite knowledgeable about Digimon and human biology, as well as medicine and human methods of dealing with injuries. He can even brew his own medicine, though it's nowhere near as skilled as plant Digimon who've done it for far longer.
History: Born in the frigid north in Kaldheim, he was the only son of his parents and the youngest of his six older sisters, much like his own father. As expected in the viking-like kingdom, he and his sisters were taught how to fight from a young age. Unlike some of the families in Kaldheim, he got along with his sisters, all of whom considered him their precious baby brother. It also helped that their parents drilled to them that it was important that each Digimon had a different way of fighting, because each one had their own strengths.
But Dinadan didn't really care about that. Oh, sure, he loved spending time with his sisters and didn't mind getting better in order to beat them sometimes, but beyond that, he didn't really care too much. Still very young at that point, his parents weren't too worried about his lack of motivation to be a warrior.
Then during a little outdoor training with some of his sisters, they were attacked by some running demon Digimon and Dinadan got badly injured by them considering he was just a Blucomon as opposed to his sisters being Champions and Ultimates. But before he was taken to the village healers, a Jijimon--in fact, the one who had been chasing the demon Digimon because they were criminals he had happened to run into--healed him as the offending Digimon were handled by his sisters. The Jijimon left after making sure he was fine and that the Digimon he had been chasing were locked up tight before he left, but Dinadan, inspired by the elder, had found his calling.
He learned whatever healing techniques he could in Kaldheim, which wasn't much considering the place, but it was enough that when he digivolved, it was into a Sorcerimon. Of course, his parents weren't entirely on board with if only because they worried for their son. But Dinadan kept going and when he realized that he couldn't learn more in Kaldheim, told his parents he wants to leave for Glen Elendra to better his healing magic, which only worried his parents more.
However, they thought that it would also be good for him, believing he would just return not long after he set out. So they let him go and so Dinadan, with some supplies and only a little inkling of how to get to his destination, left. And wouldn't come back for at least five years. But that's getting ahead.
He first trekked south, stopping at whatever villages he could find and practicing his healing and ice magic as well. It was grueling, but he was still as much a warrior in spirit as his family, so he weathered through it, managing to make it through the mountains. It had taken about a year to get there and through, and now that only warmer weather was in his way, it took him about two months to reach the village that was just across the shores of Greystone.
But it was during these two months that he met his first human, or rather humans. He met a few on his way to Greystone, a few of them with their partners injured and thus were hiding as they waited for their partner's recovery. He helped them, of course, but what was noteworthy was that when he tried to heal some of the few humans who were also injured, he couldn't, which greatly puzzled and worried him. If more of these humans were coming, then what good was he if he couldn't heal them?
So as he finally reached Greystone, he had been trying to come up with spells in order to heal humans. But it was in there that he met with an old acquaintance, the Jijimon who had healed him all those years ago. The old Digimon was surprised to find a Sorcerimon constantly asking him questions until he introduced himself to him. That only surprised the Jijimon more. And then he mentioned about going to Glen Elendra to better his spells, especially healing, and that he hoped to somehow make spells for healing humans. As soon as he said that, the mon had said,
"No need for that, boy. I can teach you myself."
And so, Dinadan ended up under the tutelage of Faraday the Jijimon. And his way of teaching was rather eccentric, involving rather mundane things compared to the constant hours of training and meditation he was used to. Though it was no less rigorous considering he also had him do all sorts of errands in Axis Mundi since Faraday's house was in the land called Yamivaya, or when they were visiting nearby kingdoms. Of course, considering how Dinadan is, he didn't realize or mind it.
Still, Faraday was an excellent teacher of the magic arts and healing, including making medicines. Soon Dinadan found his own way of healing humans, as well as learn his master's way of healing, eventually digivolving into a Mistymon because of it. When that happened, Faraday had told him he had graduated from his teaching and that he should open up his own clinic in a city that needed it. To say the least, he had been surprised but grateful for all he's done for him.
So he did just that. Dinadan opened a little clinic in lower Axis Mundi, thinking it was the best place he could be to offer healing to both Digimon and the new humans in the world. And it gained a bit of notoriety as being one of the few, if not only, places where humans could go to be healed. In fact, it's because of this that one day, one of his sisters, his eldest, actually came to see him. It was a nice reunion, his sister proud and congratulating him for his success. And when the colder months came, he went back to Kaldheim to see all of his family.
The next few years were spent like that. During the spring and summer, he would stay in Axis Mundi in his clinic, as well as do house calls if it's important enough in the city or in the nearby kingdoms. Then in fall, he would go back to Kaldheim where he would stay until the end of winter when he would go back to Axis Mundi and then the cycle repeated. During that time, he would further his craft and learn more about humans to better tweak his spells for them. That was until the Royal Knights declared their crusade against humanity.
Unsurprisingly, he was among the first Digimon to help humans, especially as the injured came in droves to Axis Mundi. In fact, the Council did invite him to upper Axis Mundi. But with all his patients and being tired, he hadn't had time to read it, only knowing it was just an invitation from the Council, let alone answer it. The numbers got higher and higher even though it was just a month, even more so in the past few days as the Council and the summoned Tamers started fighting the Knights directly. At the rate things were going, he probably wouldn't read it at all and never join the Guardians.
Then the survivors from Kaladesh came. He healed them, alongside the very few human doctors that were there. It was in one of the camps he met a familiar patient, Shula Hernandez, who he had checked over after the fight in Avalon. When she saw him again, she had asked if he could join the Guardians, since they only had one healer. At first, he was hesitant, not wanting to leave the humans and Digimon already here. But then they were interrupted by a young man, along with a BlackGatomon on his head and a MagnaKidmon, asked if he could join. Shula had said,
"Sure!" Then, more somber, she continued. "We're gonna need all the help we can get."
In that moment, he realized that, perhaps unintentionally, she had let slip that the Guardians were having a hard time beating the Royal Knights. And it made sense. And if being a healer would help then he would. So with that, he too accepted her offer. After some preparations, mostly the MagnaKidmon finishing her things and Shula getting transportation, they made to catch up with the rest of the Guardians.
Higher Form/s: MedievalGallantmon (not accessible at the moment)
Lower Form/s: Sorcorimon -> Blucomon -> Koromon
Other:
As mentioned, Dinadan can heal Digimon and has developed human healing spells. Though they can only heal their respective species, both work through Dinadan actually giving his stamina to the recipient and in the case of humans, he needs more energy to heal them than, say, healing a Digimon of similar size, because not only does he give his energy, he has to use some to make said energy acceptable to the human body. Hence why he eats a lot. His "Digi-spells", as he calls them, are more versatile since some of them are just him adapting the skills of his Jijimon mentor, particularly the AoE healing and long distance single target healing (specifically up to fifteen meters and in his line of sight). For humans, for now he'll need to actually touch the human he needs to heal if he wants to heal them.
His orb keeps a record of all the patients he's had and also the reason why whenever uses the AoE heal, it doesn't also heal the enemy because their name isn't registered in its logs as well as set to heal.
Fun fact: His last name is in reference to John Snow, the one who found out about the problem with the Broad Street Pump.
Name: Zainab "Zaza" Cadaceus
Species: MagnaKidmon
Gender: Female
Age: 30
Appearance: For the most part, Zainab, or Zaza as she likes to be called, has your typical MagnaKidmon appearance. She's a very humanoid dragon Digimon standing somewhere between seven to eight feet. Though completely human in shape, the way her crimson scales cover her body make it look like she's wearing clothes, with flaps extending from her torso like a gentleman's tuxedo and gloves "covering" her three fingered hands. The scales around her neck are black and look like they form a "collar" and her head is human in appearance as well, with short yet messy silver hair and a grey face, but two slim horns jut out of the back of her head and are easily visible even with the crimson stetson she wears.
She has four "wings", for lack of a better word, two of which are black and look like bat wings stretched very long, and the other two look more like ammo belts with a tiny machine gun at the end of it, all of which she can control as easily as her arms and are typically tucked on her back when she's not flying. Speaking of guns though, while her thighs are normal and red, her shins are silver barrels of guns, the "butt" where the handle supposed to be replaced with a "knee guard" that extends upward, covering her thigh, which is red with a silver cross on it. Her pointer finger on both of her hands is also a gun, the ammunition barrel of which can be seen in the palm of her hand.
The only thing differentiating her from other MagnaKidmon are her green forest eyes, which often have both a mischievous and calculating look to them and several fanny packs (her favorite human invention) around her hip which contain various items.
Personality: The ones who dislike Zaza often describe her as an overconfident and pompous brat who has no honor and is in way over her head. And, well, while it's not exactly false, how Zaza normally is around others can easily be thought of as that. Upon first meeting her, she gives off an air of confidence, with her relaxed yet purposeful moves, her easy going smile contrasting her calculating eyes, and how she seems to like to show off all the treasures she's gained, almost like she's a prideful and greedy Digimon who wants only the best of the best of the best.
In truth, she's like this because she's two things at her core: a merchant and a trickster.
Zaza has always had an eye for objects and has always loved collecting things. Ever since she was young, she would get stuff from all around her and she was fascinated by the objects in the marketplace, filled with things from around the world and across the decades. She's always loved finding valuable things, whether it's something that most consider such, like precious gems or valuable antiques, to something that only avid collectors would care about, like bottle caps or vintage signs. She even knows quite a bit about foods and drinks. Her stores have "Goods, Trinkets & More" in their name for a reason.
But just as easily as she wants to gain them, she can, most of the time, just as easily give it away, not only for the right price, but also for the right Digimon--or person. She does know there's more to an object's value than just money. There are memories and personal connections in them as well and she knows how that can be worth more than all wealth in the world. Because of this, sometimes she's willing to give her things for free. Of course she's going have to make the money that was lost back somehow, but she hadn't gotten this far from determination alone.
Always one to come up with schemes when she was younger, whether it was for something as innocent as hiding the fact she ate candy before a meal or as hilarious as getting Digimon covered in feathers, Zaza has always been an observant and crafty kind, always watching and always thinking. And if she wanted something, she would do her absolute best to get it, more often than not bending or pushing the rules to the limit, something she still does now.
Though don't mistake her willingness to try unorthodox ways means she hates rules. No, she's more than fine with rules. She's the owner of a business after all. Can't run a business with employees under her without them. But, as she would say, "Dumb rules are meant to be broken," so if she doesn't like a rule, she's more than likely to outright break it. And being the scheming woman she is, she's most likely either had her tracks covered or the rule gets changed because of her.
Despite her seeming disregard of structure, Zaza's still a dragon Digimon, with a Greymon-type mother, and thus she has a strong sense of justice, honor and loyalty. She will not rip off customers, she will always be honest about all the goods in her inventory and she will always repay any debts she gains. The only time she really pulls out, as she likes to jokingly call them, her "evil schemes" is when she's "fighting fire with fire" against other, less honorable merchants and traders. Even willing to resort to more violent means herself if she believes it necessary (though most of the time it's because she provoked said corrupted merchant). She loves it when a good plan comes together to topple down those who abuse their positions. She also respects those who do the same. Otherwise, her "schemes" are usually done in jest, just like when she was young. Her employees both hate and love the fact.
As such, she is a very friendly sort of Digimon. Maybe not enthusiastic or energetic when greeting other people, but she still likes hanging around others, not only for business purposes but also for hearing stories, learning of the different kinds of treasures of the world and almost becoming childish whenever such a thing happens. And is more than certain to make a joke of some sort.
But at the moment, there's another desire behind her eyes, a desire to see the Royal Knights pay for starting this war. And she's going to give it everything's she's got. The only thing stopping her from going outright ruthless is the fact that if she gets herself killed, it'll just be another loss to her "blood" niece, Lavenza, and her adoptive nephews, Kogoro and his Digimon partner, Morgan, who she treats warmly and protectively.
History: Zaza was born in one of the many cities in Yavimaya, an old and big one called Sugbu, a little over two years after her older brother, Joachim, to a Shinegreymon mother and a BanchoStingmon father. Her mother, though crippled and very far from her home of Greystone, was still a warrior and her father, well...was a part of the city's council and considered a rebel for bending the rules a lot to make the point that said rules weren't good enough and, more often than not, messing with the more corrupt of the council members.
In truth, it shouldn't be surprising that Zaza ended up being quite the formidable trickster when she was young, more often than not roping her brother, a more skittish sort, in her schemes. And really, Zaza had a normal childhood. Well, as normal as her life could get with her mother teaching her the ways of a warrior and her father teaching her the ways of politics. She did, however, seem to have an odd habit of collecting things she liked, be it pretty rocks, weird twigs or discarded parts.
It wasn't until at about nine years of age, when she came with her father as he got groceries did the merchant in her spark to life. To others, they saw just food, to her, she saw treasures being exchanged and she wanted to be a part of it. It got even stronger when they passed by the flea market on the way back, where various other goods were sold.
So she ended up going there often, bugging merchants and traders from both her questions and her trying to figure out their business practices. Soon, she started learning how it's done and then, with help from her parents, opened up her first "shop" in the flea market.
Unsurprisingly, that first venture didn't turn out so well but she kept trying and when she did, by finding quite a few hard to get fruits and plants from the neighboring forests and jungles, her stand had started being pretty known in the market despite her young age.
But Zaza wanted to do more than just this one shop in her home town of Sugbu. So, after talking with her parents who unfortunately couldn't come along for various reasons, packed her stuff and headed for Tidehollow, Joachim coming with her, mostly because he didn't really have much he wanted to do.
Once again, Zaza started at the bottom when she got in the bustling trading city. But she wasn't undeterred. However, she was a bit short on money so, at first, she and her brother did odd jobs around the place to keep up with the rent of the small place they made into what was essentially a junk shop, "Zainab's Little Shop".
And then the humans started to arrive.
Where most were just curious and maybe wary, Zaza saw an opportunity. Almost instantly, she offered her services and goods to the humans. Sure, most of them didn't have money, but money wasn't the only thing a merchant dealt with. She traded with them. Whatever food or items that she had and they wanted, she gave it to them. Soon, her "shop" was known to be human friendly, which made some of the businessmon stare at her in disgust but she didn't care. She found a market no other Digimon was taking advantage of and, if she played her cards right, she might eventually end up having a monopoly on some human items.
Eventually she did, somewhat, in the form of paying money to humans willing to bring as much stuff they can carry with them to Saga and not just objects, but also foods if they could swing it. Oh, it was glorious, because the stuff she got came from all over the human world of Analog. She got to see so may of their world's treasures, and sell them back to other humans who couldn't quite get them in their world because it was apparently a little hard for most humans to go all around the world.
Her shop soon got bigger and she changed it to "ZaZa's Goods, Trinkets & More" (second Z capitalized on purpose of course for good marketing). Soon, the Tamers who were just doing it for extra and quick money were full-time employees and she got to learn more about Analog as she made friends with them. And the wonderful inventions, fanny packs and the whoopee cushion. She absolutely loves them. And with her newfound money, she had branches open in every kingdom that was accepting of Tamers and connecting with quite a few Tamer formed guilds, particularly the technology and archaeology ones considering her growing love of human tech and treasure in general.
Sometime during this, to her surprise, Joachim actually fell in love with a one of the few Digimon customers that wasn't a partner of a Tamer, a curious Andromon by the name of Margaret. And, unsurprisingly, they had a daughter, Lavenza, not too long after they got together. To say the least, she enjoyed teasing him. It did, however, lead to him leaving her store to move with her in Kaladesh.
Which wasn't too bad since they kept in touch with each other and their parents and the new family would often visit her considering Margaret was curious of humans and often wanted human inventions. So Zaza kind of expected that they would end up adopting a human boy, one named Kogoro, along with his BlackGatomon partner, Morgan, who had befriended their daughter. All in all, life was great. She had a successful business just like she wanted, her family was doing great just like she hoped, and she had a ton seen tons of treasures of all kinds just as she dreamed.
Of course Fate had to ruin it in the form of the Royal Knights declaring war on humans.
To say the least, she didn't like it. Not only because they were her largest customer base, but also because she had a human nephew and plenty of human friends. So she did her part to pitch in, sending some of her employees as both escorts and giving relief goods with no charges. Her brother and her sister-in-law also helping in Kaladesh by arranging for places for humans to stay. Originally, Zaza just planned on keeping up these efforts, and maybe setting up an information network too. She had thought that would be all she would do during this war.
Then the Kaladesh attack happened.
And the only reason she knew before the news actually came to the city was because her branch manager in the city told her they were evacuating before getting cut off. She immediately left Tidehollow, leaving her vice-executive in change, and went for Axis Mundi, hoping her brother and his family was among those who survived. All she found were battered survivors...
...and a grieving Lavenza, Kogoro and Morgan.
That broke the figurative straw on the camel's back. Not only did the Royal Knights have taken things too far in her book. Now it was personal. Good friends were lost, her brother and sister-in-law were gone and her niece and nephews had no more parents because of them. Why? Because they were scared of humans? She decided then to join the fight, and put a stop to them. And nothing's going to stop her from doing so.
The only reason she didn't just rush off to properly enlist or something was because Kogoro and Morgan were going to do the same. She tried to convince them but before it could be resolved, Kogoro then went off and volunteered to a woman who apparently was trying to have this Mistymon join the Guardians and she quickly accepted the offer. So, with no other choice, she made sure that Lavenza was in good hands (the manager of the Axis Mundi branch) and informing her vice-executive of her plans before coming with her nephews, the tall lady and her BlackAgumon, and the Mistymon who was also convinced.
To say the least, she's regretting teaching Kogoro some of her "negotiation" techniques...

Lower Form/s: RizeGreymon -> GeoGreymon -> Agumon (2006 version) -> Koromon
Other: She has five fanny packs, one containing rations of both human and Digimon kinds, one with various trinkets like a toy top or a broken hand watch, another with a few gems and some coins from various kingdoms in Saga and countries in Analog, yet another with a PCom (Personal Communicator, as she calls it, which is basically a The Brick but for Digimon) and two notebooks--one blank and one not--and the last one filled with bandages and some basic medicine for humans.
Name: Kogoro Cadaceus
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Physical Description: Standing at an exact five feet, Kogoro comes off as scrawny and blank. His slightly unkempt hair is straight, short and dark brown, with bangs almost cover both of his eyes, which are also brown, but because of its shade, in some angles they look almost dried blood red, and somehow have a disinterested look despite how often they flit around from observing his surroundings. His face, and his body general, is on the thin side, even after he started having regular meals. His build, however, is lean and quick from his early years in an orphanage in Tokyo, travelling with his partner and brother, Morgan, across Saga, and training with his adoptive father and his family. He has a few scars across his arms, as well as quite a few burns from working with machinery.
His attire looks very, very brooding but also very, very simple. It's just a simple grey t-shirt with khaki pants and combat boots that are also grey, which contrast with his somewhat pale skin and his sometimes red eyes. He keeps his digivice in his left pocket, connected to his black belt by a thin metal chain. He doesn't have his old laptop anymore, but he has a new one he carries around with him but it's an older model and inside a small and square dark green backpack. He also usually has Morgana on either of his shoulders or on top of his head.
Personality Profile: Kogoro is, simply put, a stoic person. So stoic in fact that it almost seems like he's emotionless or even bored. Almost as if to add to that persona, he's also very quiet, not one to talk much, usually letting Morgan speak for him. And when he does speak, it's soft, taciturn and, more often than not, with a lack of energy. Because of all this, he comes off as uncaring and anti-social when it couldn't be further from the truth.
True, he is a naturally quiet person but he prefers being in the company of others. In fact, one of his favorite places to be is in parties and bars because of how lively it is and how people are smiling. If someone does talk to him, he will listen attentively, no matter the subject, even something as mundane as what they've been doing recently and is most likely to speak if he wants clarifications on what they're talking if it's something more esoteric. And treats others with a gentle demeanor that might come off as coddling to some. The only problem is that in his early years, he learned that showing emotions, especially complaining, usually meant a beating from the older children and considering he was a naturally quiet person to begin with, it was easy to hide it pretty quickly. So, even though it's been a few years since then, he still has trouble expressing his emotions beyond his words.
This is also the reason why, despite his nonchalant exterior, he is an equally wary and observant yet lonely and yearning young man, though the latter has lessened in the past years. His eyes always look around and take stock of his location and everyone around him, out of his habit of keeping an eye for bullies. He doesn't open up easily to strangers, not talking too much about himself if he talks at all. Yet he doesn't like being alone. He hates the feeling more than anything in the world. And when he does end up talking to strangers, he is likely to just want to please them as wary as he is. It's a paradox that Kogoro is trying to overcome, but it's going to take a while.
So he turns to his passion of machines. Not only does he love tinkering them and learning about them, he also loves making his own. Some of them just little toys like moving cars or figures to more complicated and practical stuff, like an engine for a cart (which was one of the causes for his burns). He also has an interest in coding but only having learned of it recently, he's still only really at a basic level. These are the things that he uses whenever he's trying to get out of his shell.
And if does happen to make a friend, his want to please them is increased by tenfold. He will treasure that friend for as long as he lives and is very loyal. He also, unlike most Japanese people and perhaps people in general, he likes hugs. Not having had much affection when he was young means he craves it more than he should.
He is, however, still a pragmatic person and most of his thought processes are based on logic and what would get him closer to whatever his goal is, and whatever that goal is usually affects whether his choices are the more logical and heartless or irrational and sympathetic. And the worst part is that he has little to no self-value, even after having had Morgan and his adoptive family in his life, so if there's any idea where a sacrifice is needed, he's likely to take up on it because he doesn't think that his life could be worth more than the lives of many others.
Digivice Description: His digivice has a white body, black grips and red buttons. Dangling from it is also a keychain which has a tiny gear at the end of it and the aforementioned chain that hooks into his belt.
History: A bastard child, Kogoro's mother alone raised him at first in the shabby apartment she called home in Shinjuku. But when his mother dies from a drunkard pushing her in the way of traffic, he's put in an orphanage because none of his relatives wanted anything to do with him. And unfortunately being the new kid, and a bastard child, just made living there all the harder.
He learned quick to not show he was crying and to keep to himself, because none of the kids liked him, even the ones who didn't like the older bullying kids. So when his "caretaker" wasn't checking on him, he was all by himself. Predictably, he also was alone at school and so would spend time in the library instead of playing with his schoolmates. It was there he learned more than most orphans would since he had nothing better to do during break. And when back at orphanage, he would just stay in his bed in the room he shared with many others. At first, he didn't do much except wait for school until he saw one of the toys the other kids discarded, a very cheap and broken plastic Kamen Rider figure.
He wanted to fix it so he then looked to books on fixing things. That toy was then added with another he found in the trash, as well as a broken cellphone. Soon, he got so many he had to find a spot he could stash his things, not wanting any of the others to take it away from him or mess it up again.
But even if the kids mostly left him alone physically, he still felt isolated and he was still thought of as someone who shouldn't exist. He was lonely and had no future. And as he saw the older kids, aged eighteen, practically get kicked out, he knew he was running out of time to figure some sort of solution. But real life wasn't like the TV shows he would watch at night, when he could watch their reruns without the other kids making fun of him for liking to watch them. There were no heroes.
Then, one day, as he was getting yet another trashed electronic, a computer this time, it came to life. And it said a simple message: DO YOU WISH TO LEAVE THIS WORLD? Y/N
Seeing as nobody wanted him, and that he had no chance of a better future, he accepted. But when he got to this other world, he just ended up in a forest. Confused, he wandered but only found monsters that still didn't want him. For days he was lost and soon he regretted his choice and decided to just cry, and hopefully die of starvation or thirst or another monster coming to kill him.
But for the first time in a long time, his cries were heard. A little black cat came and took care of him in a village filled with similar monsters, but here the monsters seemed nicer. The cat, Morgan, talked to him, asked questions. At first, he didn't want to answer but over time, he did, and by the time he recovered, the Digimon, as he found out, asked if he could come with him.
Shocked that someone actually wanted him, he agreed and he ended up getting a Digivice from that. And so, Kogoro spent the next few years with Morgan as they traveled around, helping whoever they passed and part of the reason Morgan gained his Ultimate form. This went on for a while until Kogoro had heard of the technological city of Kaladesh and the pair immediately set their course for it. There, they met a lost Hagurumon named Lavenza and helped find her parents.
When they made to leave however, Lavenza still wanted to play with them. Kogoro, unable to resist, agreed and they ended up staying at the Cadaceus's house, and not just for the afternoon. Joachim and Margaret, Lavenza's father and mother respectively, insisted they stay for the night. Then another. Soon, it was one month of staying with them, spending time with all of them, and then the two were asked if they could adopt them.
Kogoro cried then, unable to believe it. He accepted and so he was officially made part of the Cadaceus family. He and Morgan were taught self-defense by his now-father and his grandparents. He learned even more about machines and, ironically enough, human history through his mother. And he even wished his intellect for "schemes" from his aunt, as well as getting materials for his inventions and toys. It was truly a dream come true.
Then the Royal Knights' crusade started. Of course, his family helped however they could, Kogoro specifically calming and keeping company with any humans and Digimon that were staying at their house until they were sent to shelters or someone would take them. His father though considered joining in the war effort and in truth, as scared as Kogoro was to lose him, he thought it was better that as many fighters fought the Knights.
He just didn't consciously think it could actually happen until the Knights set their sights on his home city. His father was among the city's forces while his mother coordinated the efforts to get those who wouldn't or couldn't fight onto the trains, himself, Morgan and Lavenza included. He thought they would have time to escape. But they didn't. The Royal Knights' forces made sure none of the trains could leave the station, even destroying some in the process. They only barely made it because he made Morgan digivolve in time to shield them. As fast as they could, they ran, grabbing any Tamers and their partners they could as Kogoro spotted the only train that was leaving the city. They barely made it in time before the form broke from the earlier damage and white light covered everything behind the train.
Kogoro grieved on the train, along with his sister, for his parents, for all those who lived in Kaladesh and all those who had died before the Knights came to the city. But as they grieved, he also knew that the only way this would end was when the Royal Knights are stopped. So when they arrived at one of the Tamer camps, and Morgan suggested they join the fight, he agreed. And when they ran into their aunt, they--well, more like Morgan because Kogoro knew her answer already--told her their plan.
Unsurprisingly, she didn't like the thought and tried to convince them otherwise. However, before she could do anything about it, he noticed and overheard a tall woman trying to convince a Mistymon to help her and the Guardians. Capitalizing on the chance, he offered to join and she quickly accepted, much to his aunt's chagrin. So after she settled some things and left Lavenza in the care of someone they could trust in Axis Mundi, he, Morgan, her and the Mistymon the woman convinced followed her.
He could only hope the Guardians were fine with extra hands that weren't summoned by the Council.

Kogoro is left-handed.
When he was adopted, he took on the family name of his Digimon parents. His old family name was Masayoshi.

Digimon Partner
Name: Morgan Cadaceus
Species: BlackGatomon
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Appearance: As expected of a BlackGatomon, he only stands at a measly one foot eight inches and bearing resemblance to an upright cat. His fur is a very dark shade of grey that it might as well be called black with purple stripes on his back and running up his tail. His triangular ears are about one and a half times bigger than his head and his tail is about as long as he is tall and is thick as his arms, the tip having split ends. His "hands" are covered in in purple "cat gloves" with short, black claws. The only things differentiating him from others of his kind are his sky blue eyes and the yellow scarf he loves to wear, both of which carry over in his digivolutions. The only exception to his constant blue eyes is when he's biomerged with Kogoro, where instead of his usual blue eyes, it's rusty brown eyes, signifying Kogoro himself. Otherwise, he keeps his scarf. Speaking of the boy, Morgana usually stays on either of his shoulders or on top of his head.
Personality: Morgan acts like a cat. Simple as that. He thinks highly of himself, specifically his appearance and his speed and agility, and always prefers to be perfectly groomed. He holds himself with a poise and confidence that cats always seem to have, like they own they world. And though he doesn't necessarily think the world should be his, he does like his shiny things and is more than likely to want to call dibs on any he sees.
Of course, he's not completely stupid to say his opinion of himself to everyone, mostly anyone who he knows could beat the crap out of him. But it doesn't take much to convince him to talk about himself, where he's likely to exaggerate a few details in any of the stories he tells. And, well, he also doesn't take to insults well, especially about his looks or his speed and agility considering his great pride over them.
Also because of this, besides compliments, he doesn't seem to like affection, disliking whenever others try to. But really, it's more that he's not used to it and his first reaction is to be defensive or be wary of ulterior motives. And any kind of affection or compliment he himself gives is often abrasive and just as likely to be backhanded, if he gives any at all. Add to the fact that he is quick to criticize others, especially if he feels it's necessary which is usually often, he isn't liked by many.
But if someone does manage to stand all of his bluster, they'll find that he's a surprisingly sentimental and very loyal Digimon. He greatly values in the "ways of a gentleman", to always help others in trouble and to always treat others with respect, which he doesn't realize he doesn't seem to do well. He's practically devoted to Kogoro, who he considers his brother despite being different species. He gave him a purpose beyond just living and led him to their family. He also is usually the one that speaks for him unless he wants to say something.
Thus any one in his circle of friends and family are given the same respect and affection he also gives to Kogoro and their family, though it's still a little rough on the edges considering his personality and lack of experience with families. And he still considers Kogoro the best out of everything that's ever come across his life, so any offense towards his brother is also considered an offense to him.
History: Morgan's life was...boring. Simple as that. Oh sure, he was an orphan and grew up in a rather shady gang that committed all sorts of crimes to survive. One would think he would be more hardened from that. He was in a way. He was the fastest and most agile in their little gang so he was always assigned to be the one to carry their stolen goods away and he was pretty good in a scrap. But he wanted more from his life, more than just surviving.
So he left, never to look back, and of course they didn't take that too well, but he was much too fast for them to catch up. And at first, he loved the freedom. Now he didn't have to do whatever the gang wanted. He could help whoever he wished and get his food from the land. But after a while, he was back to square one. As much as it felt great to help the occasional Digimon who would sometimes praise him, he still had no goal to aspire to. And still no friends.
Then one day he heard crying in the forest on his way to yet another town. He had expected to find a Digimon. Instead, he found something that had been popping up recently: a human. To say the least, he had no idea how to calm him down, especially since his crying could attract more feral Digimon, but somehow he did and Morgan saw the eyes of someone who was lost and had gave up all hope.
So, being the gentleman he was, he helped him out of there and took care of him. It was only then did he realize how thin and skeletal the boy, Kogoro, was. He slowly recovered and Morgan got to know him in that time, finding out his past in his world, bit by bit. To say the least, Morgan felt sympathy for the boy and so when he finally did, he had asked Kogoro if he could come with him on his travels. He said yes.
And so they once again, Morgan traveled across the land, but this time he had a partner and boy what a partner he was. Sure, he didn't know how to read very well and was rather paranoid, but not only was he pretty smart, but he gave him a boost in power, letting digivolve into an Ultimate form. And best of all, Kogoro thought of him like the brother he never had. It felt good to be valued so much by someone.
Then one day, when they were in Kaladesh because Kogoro wanted to see the technological city, they helped a lost Hagurumon named Lavenza find her parents. However, just when they were leaving, Lavenza wanted to play with them. Kogoro couldn't say no so they spent time with the little Digimon until it was dark. But just as they were to leave again, Lavenza's parents insisted they stay the night. To say the least, by the next day, their one day stay turned into two, then to three, and yet even more days until finally the family decided to adopt them.
To say the least, it was a dream come true, for the both of them.
They had a family now. Their new grandparents teaching both of them the ways of the warrior, their father teaching them manners, their mother mostly teaching Kogoro about machines, history and, ironically enough, other humans, and they had an adorable little sister and an aunt who taught them quite a few schemes. For Morgan, it was perfect, even with their occasional squabbles over the years. Then the Royal Knights just had to start their fanatical crusade.
To say the least, he didn't like it. Especially since it caused Kogoro and his new family so much pain as they helped Tamers and their partners find shelter, either in their own house or in other places. As things started to escalate in the coming days, his father had even considered joining in the fight.
And he did when Kaladesh was attacked. Their mother was helping to coordinate the evacuation of civilians, Tamers and partners who couldn't fight, he, Kogoro and Lavenza among them. They thought they were safe as they left the city, the fight starting behind them. They were wrong. The Royal Knights' forces swept in, preventing any of the trains to escape. The only reason they survived the crash was because Kogoro had him digivolve to shield them. As fast as they could, they ran, grabbing whatever Tamers and their partners they could as they left and made a beeline to the only Locomon leaving before the form broke from the earlier damage and behind the train was washed in the light of the incredible power.
Morgan would've been mad...except Kogoro and Lavenza were crying, grieving for their parents. And so the train ride to Axis Mundi was spent doing that. When they reached there though, in one of the Tamer camps, Morgan quickly suggested they help in the fight against the Royal Knights. To his surprise, Kogoro just as quickly agreed. So when they ran into Aunty Zaza who had arrived for them, they told her their plan and to tell her to keep an eye on Lavenza.
To their surprise, she was also going to join the fight. What wasn't a surprise was her trying to convince them not to. Before anything the argument would explode, Kogoro noticed a tall blonde woman talking to a Mistymon and asking him if he could join the Guardians, and he took the opportunity to volunteer and before Zaza could say anything, the woman accepted the offer.
Now the only thing they have to do was hope whoever leads the Guardians will be fine with the new recruits.
