An original story I've been cooking up for some time now. First chapters are a little short, but it does get a lot better. Comments appreciated, thanks!
Chapter 1
“Finally, spring break!”
Sometimes, you just gotta let loose, you know? That's what Alec was thinking when he slammed his school locker and sped down the hall.
“Hey, I… Alright… See you later!” Vinni called after. Lucky for him, he was going to be visiting his mom in California for over the next week.
After weeks and weeks of tough homework, review, and tests, Alec was free to have his spring break to himself. He dodged the passing students as the exit came into view. “Urk!” He suddenly choked as an arm was stuck out to stop him in my tracks. Alec scrambled to gather lunchbox, and backpack. He looked up to find the physics teacher, Mr. Labberty grinning down at him.
“Your body's resistance to come to a sudden halt caused you to trip on your own feet and fall on the floor. What would be the correct term to describe this phenomenon, Mr. Ferren?”
Cringing and rubbed his *** painfully as he rose, Alec promptly replied, “Um… inertia, sir. Newton's 1st law of motion.”
“Good! I suggest that you take it easy, so to avoid repeating the demonstration… No running in the halls,” he said as he let the student pass. But Alec bumped into someone just walking out of physics. He fell to the ground again. “Mr. Ferren?” The voice was Mr. Labberty's again.
“Sigh, Newton's 2nd law of motion, sir. Force = mass x acceleration,” The boy grumbled.
“Good! Ms. Potter is taller than you, giving her more mass. The initial collision put enough force on your body to knock you to the floor again,” he said, making Shawn chuckle before she lent a hand.
“Hey, Alec! Gonna play basketball today?” She asked him casually.
“Uh… Of course, Shawn!” Alec’s face quickly flushed, but that didn't last long. A soccer ball came bouncing out of nowhere and knocked him in the head. He rubbed his head again while Shawn helped him up.
“Oops, sorry!” Exclaimed a kid.
“Mr. Ferren.” The teacher questioned Alec expectantly.
“Newton's 3rd law, sir. The ball hitting my head had an equal and opposite reaction of knocking me down and bouncing off in another direction.” he said, tiredly.
“Excellent! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to write up a detention for indoor soccer.” He left the scene and only Shawn and Alec remained. As the student gathered his things again, Shawn decided to start some small talk.
“So, uh… Been studying for that test, huh?” She said.
He scratched my earlobe nervously. “Yeah, glad it's over. So good luck with that upcoming tournament.”
“Oh, I've decided to skip it. I have too many things going on right now.” After she said that, a small electronic on her wrist began vibrating, and the screen was flashing red. It was orange, with three brown buttons, almost circular in shape.
“Hey, that's a weird looking cell phone.” Alec exclaimed, as he reached out to poke it. But she snatched it out of his reach and began running off.
“Sorry, I guess I can't play basketball today! Tell Tom I'm really sorry!” She dashed around the corner and out of sight. Leaving Alec clueless in the dust.
“Sigh… Well, I guess it’ll be just as fun without her. I just wish I knew why she had to disappear so much,” he hitched my pack over his shoulder and continued on with the day.
