Disappointing Pokemon

Has anyone ever looked at a Pokemon they want to train real bad, and go and search for it, only to find that once captured and/or trained, is actually a dud and fails to meet expectations, be it stats, or movepools?

Well, I have. It's called Poliwrath.

One day, in Crystal, I realised I hat trained every single fighter possible then, apart from Poli. I had never had Poliwrath before, and I decided to get a Poliwag. It wasn't long before I got a Poliwhirl, and evolved it.

Well, not only did its speed go down, but its types didn't really mesh together with it's stats, and it couldn't get many decent Fighting attacks. Worse still, it has a higher Attack than Special Attack, but gets more special attacks, and it's attack is much lower than other fighters. And although it gets high defences and HP, it still takes too much damage from super effective attacks.

And, Submission with a decidedly average attack stat doesn't do much damage (and recoil sucks), and Hypnosis is too inaccurate to be trusted. Sure, it gets Belly Drum, but with lack of decent fighting moves, can't use this too well either. Funny, since I had trained Politoed before and it was almost perfect, despite Fighting being my favourite type, and ended up favouring the non-fighter. Poliwrath just didn't cut it as a Water or a Fighter.

So, has anyone else been left displeased with a Pokemon before in a similar fashion? Discuss.

Feraligatr in Gold...

I chose Feraligatr because I usually chose the water type starter in each game, so I chose Totodile...

It was pretty terrible... high attack, but no decent attacks to teach it in GS because the TMs at the time sucked balls

plus I wasted the only Earthquake TM on Steelix of all pokemon... so I was left with a Feraligatr with this moveset

Dynamicpunch
Bite
Dig
Ice Punch

very crappy if you ask me...

it wasn't until I snagged Croconaw very late into colosseum (I chose Bayleef) that I started to like Fearligatr once more.

Poliwrath can actually own. BellyDrum Wrath or Hynosis FPunch Wrath can kill bigtime.

Shuckle...that's right,Shuckle.

When I first obtained a Shuckle in gold/silver/crystal just by the looks alone I knew I wanted to train that thing on my team because it looks so unique and odd.

At that time it didn't cut it for me.However, now,I love Shuckle more than ever.

When I first heard about Sableye having basically no type weakness, I grew excited. I found one in the cave near Dewford, and killed it within twenty seconds. It was then I found that really, type isn't everything. Sableye had overall pretty much poor stats and not-the-best moves. :/

Suicune. It was awesome. And Legendary. So I wasted my Master Ball on it. It still is good, but I was disappointed.

Togepi. In the anime it was something so great! I never realized how horrible it was at speed. I was still pleased though.

Azumarrill. Absolutely adorable. But incredibly slow and weak for what I expected. Defense wasn't everything.

For Absol, I had uber big expectations. But then I killed one with one Slash attack from my Sneasel, not critical hit. T_T I was dragged into gloom.

Absol and Sneasel(lol combo of the above post). I trained both, and their pitiful Defenses constantly let me down.

Mightyena never did well for me, either =/ At least it looks awesome, though.

Mention of Poliwrath within this Thread makes me sad :( Poliwrath is own, you just need to give it the right Moveset.

Likewise, any mention of Gligar and Glalie will ignite my fury >=[

Yep. Absol. I thought it looked really cool when I caught. I leveled it up to about lvl. 60 (beat the elite four with it), but I knew it wasn't the best of choices the whole time. I'm still disappointed in it....

Mightyena disappoints. She's awesome, but fails at battling. And all in favor of LINOONE *hiss* I still love my two girls Lycissa and Tika though!

And Glalie...I don't use my Glalie, Jack, anymore. But I should make a Jack II with good IVs.

Absol doesn't disappoint me. Her exponentially increasing popularity does.

Luvdisc disappointed me. I thought it'd be uberly strong since it is a heart. But I was horribly let down >_>.

I love Luvdisc and all, but the thing looks as frail as hell. How could you think it looked strong? 0_0

As for me, I'd be Sneasel.
Back in the G/S/C Days, Sneasel was my favourite Pokemon. So, when I got to the Ice Cave, I searched for one and finally found it. Then wen I was leveling it up, it kept on being KOed. I gave it Ice Punch and wondered why it didn't do much damage. Oh, the horror D:

^Yeah, love sucks... :p

Let me see...

Vileplume: Oddish is one of the best first stage-pokémon... and look at this.

Alakazam: Psychic looked soooo good on Animé, that a any Psychic poké on the games is nearly a disappointment. Luckily for them, they aren't showcased as unbeatable anymore (but still as very powerful).

Mightyena: Explained by others.

Glalie: Only good if you know how to use it. On my beginning times, I didn't.

Many others... maybe. I can't remember the last time I played a file on FR/LF/Ru/Sa/G/S/C/R/B/Y.

I'd say Mawile. When I first actually decided to train one on Pokemon XD, it was constantly getting killed in battle because of it's low speed stat. And it turned out, it also had low Defence which made it even worse. But it's move pool was great which made me refuse to give it up. It was just a pain to train it though.

Sunflora is pretty disappointing. One of the rare pure-Grass types, it wasn't blessed with very great defensive stats. :\ It's Special Attack is alright though.

Exploud is pretty horrible as well. It's defensive stats are absolutely horrible, especially when hit with Fighting-type attacks.

Any pokemon who's special stat was ruined when GSC split it in two. Exeggutor, Tauros, Persian..

Cloyster comes to mind...

I miss Special Marowak. My Blue version Marowak had Bubblebeam :( It rocked... until I traded it to my Crystal version ;-;

I think it was Ferilagatr in the Gold version... Like one of the guys posted before, I always pick the water pokemon as my starter, so I chose the Feril, but my... It was really disappointing: A water pkmn with phisical attacks, I really felt bad...

Nothing to be done
Sableye- No weaknesses and a Ghost type early in the game should be a winning formula. And for a while, it was. Only when it consistently fainted against the weakest of the Elite 4's Pokemon did I realize what a fool I had been.

Volbeat- A Bug type that can wear Electric attacks? Sweet! Now if only it's STATs were above any other Bugs...

The Regis- Don't get me wrong. I love the Regis. Each one of them has one or two amazing STATs, and they can definetly hold their own. It's just that they don't seem very legendary. They're hardly exceptional, just above average. I'm not dissapointed with them as Pokemon, just as legendaries.

Scyther in pokemon red. I saw it in the anime and was like I gotta get this bug. It look so strong and cool in the anime. But in the game it lack in a good movepool and had alot of weakness which it couldn't cover with any attacks.

But now it has an evolution that gives it alot of resitances. Scizor is a way better than scyther.

Ditto also was disappointing. I only use it for breeding, since for me training it is a waste of time and a pain in the butt. :/
