Disastro[working title] PG-13

Since I haven't wrote anything in a very long time, and most of my friends do, I've decided to try my hand at it. I'm very pleased with the result too, since it's the longest I've written at one setting. I made the rating high because I wasn't sure how it would go in later chapters, if any. So read, and if you find any errors, point them out and I'll fix them. Questions about the characters are also welcome.

FYI, Pokemon species names aren't capitalized, kinda like how you wouldn't say "the Cat ran around".

Chapter One: Into the Forest

Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly, Disaster, fly like you never have! Disaster's voice screamed in her own head, her black and silver wings pumping furiously to launch her upward through the vertical tunnel. It was only a few moments ago that the purple dragon had flown through the crack in the Underworld's ceiling, toward what she hoped was freedom. The tunnel was dark, and her wingtips occasionally brushed the sides of the earthen tunnel. A loud roar from behind her startled her, and she hissed in defiance as she craned her neck around at the sound. She lacked eyes, her head almost covered all the way by a silvery metal helmet, but she had gained more sensitive abilities and could 'see' the creature behind her.

It was a lesser demon, and Disaster, guessing by the time between the steady thud of the wingbeats, decided it was a Longwing. Longwings are earthy-colored demons, ranging from dull red to sand or even brick red. They resembled a tall, half-starved man, with great wings like a golbats'. She flew faster, yet even she was tiring, her wingbeats becoming more labored. Soon her long tongue lolled out of her mouth as she struggled upwards. The metal collar around her neck clanked as the three chains occasionally crashed into each other.

End you blasted tunnel! Her thoughts roared in her head. Tired of flying, she landed roughly on the side of the tunnel with a loud grunt and crawled up the sides like an overgrown lizard into the unforgiving darkness. Her silvery-armored legs and claws dug into the earth like soft butter, and she quickly climbed up. Yet a small change shocked her into standing still, something she distantly recognised. She couldn't see, but she could feel something different. Her ears twitched, the top of them a bright crimson and the inside a pale blue. A breeze? The wind, true wind, toyed with her dark gold mane and her helmet was suddenly a little warmer, shining with..light? Yes! Light! And not the dead light of the Underworld. This light was bright, however far away, and filled with life. She felt like roaring with joy, yet turned toward the shrieking screams of the demon. The light shining off her helmet was blinding it and burning it at the same time. She curled up the corners of her mouth into a draconic grin.

"You dare chase me, lesser one? See how you are burned by His light and I am not." Her voice softened at the memory of an age long past. "For I am a Fallen One, and you are not!" Her voice rose at the end, and the stripes along her back and wings shifted to a dormant red-orange to a brilliant yellow. A large fireball erupted from her mouth at the writhing demon and vaporized it, its ashes falling back down the tunnel. She turned back and lept up the tunnel, the light getting brighter and brighter until she finally erupted into the blinding light with a rush of her wings. She cleared the tunnel and soared over a forest, from what she could tell from the sounds of bird Pokemon and the gentle whisper of wind through trees.

She landed in a small treeless area and layed down with her wings spread, soaking up the sun's light like a giant reptile. She never moved for the longest time, and some pidgeys had decided she was safe enough to perch on, even with her frightening looks. Soon Pokemon of all types were resting on her shoulders and back. Most were bird-types, but a few different ones had decided to come near, and she couldn't recognize what they were just by sound. She sighed, startling some of the more jumpy ones.

"I am free, I am free, never to live in total death and evil ever again." She smiled again, though it was more benevolent this time. "He is truely watching me. Maybe...just maybe..I can go back to the sky, where I belong."

Voices interrupted her train of thought, and Pokemon scurried off of her body. She got up, her mind racing. It was a group of humans, and they were coming right this way. She concentrated her thoughts, and quickly formed into a little human girl. Her hair was still dark gold, but her purple scales had become a baggy shirt, and her wings had become black sleeves, with a single silver stripe running along the top of them. Her pants were the same silver as what used to be her armor, as so were her steel-toed shoes. Her eyes were a brilliant red, and she studied her surroundings with a piercing gaze. She reached around her neck; a smaller version of her collar and chains were there. Just then, three humans came into view and she snapped her attention back to them. A brown-haired boy stepped foward from the small group. He wore an orange t-shirt with blue shorts, and a tan backpack on his back.

"Hey kid!" He called out. "Are you lost?" When she didn't answer, he spoke again. "My name's Pike. We were just on our way to Fortree City. Care to join us?" She narrowed her eyes, and Pike stepped back. Had he said something wrong? The girl cocked her head to the side, as if studying him.

"I will join you. My name is Callie." Disaster, or Callie, chose the name because it was close to the word "calamity". She strode over to them and linked her hands behind her back. "Hello, Pike. Who are your friends?"

Pike smiled. "Introduce yourselves, guys."

A tall boy stepped foward first, his black hair pulled back in a long braid that went almost all the way down his back. He wore a red vest over a black shirt, with darker gray baggy jeans that almost covered his red shoes. Over all this was a long black trenchcoat that just about touched the ground. "My name is Halberd. I train Dark Pokemon." He said in a calm, yet gentle voice.

A girl with straight red hair stepped foward this time, and Callie had to do a double-take to figure out this was a girl, and not a boy. She was dressed in black baggy pants, an equally baggy camo t-shirt, a very worn-out hat that might have been tan at one point but was now a dirty brown, and even black armbands on her wrists. She was slightly shorter than Pike and had an arrogant air about her, especially when she puffed up. "The name's Arbalest. I'm Pike's twin sister! I train Fighting types!"

Callie mumbled under her breath, barely loud enough even for her to hear. "Are you sure now?" But then she spoke aloud. "So..we're near Fortree City?" Callie of course had no idea where that was, but if she acted like she did, then maybe they wouldn't think there's something weird about her.

"Yep!" Arbalest piped up. "We're just about a mile from it. We were going to stop and stock up on supplies so we can take on another Gym Leader. What kind of Pokemon do you train, Callie?"

"Pokemon?" Callie asked. She didn't have a single Pokemon, much less train one. "I don't...I don't have any." She nearly jumped when the humans gasped.

"No Pokemon?!" Pike nearly yelled. "What if you're attacked? How would you protect yourself?"

Callie almost said, "I'd transform and charbroil the foolish beast." but kept her mouth shut and simply said "I don't know."

Pike sighed. "Look, I'll get you a Pokemon." He unzipped his backpack and pulled out a large green and brown egg. "Granted, it's not hatched yet, but whatever's inside is yours. It was a gift from my uncle." Callie reached out to take it, but Pike put it back in his pack. She peered inside to find it was lined with a soft, foamy substance that cushioned the developing egg. "It'll be much safer in here." he said as he zipped it back up.

Halberd cleared his throat and spoke. "We've wasted enough time. Let's get to Fortree before it gets dark."

"Right, right.." Pike replied as he slung the backpack back on, though he was clearly in no hurry. "C'mon gang, Fortree City, here we come!" And they started off into the forest yet again, yet this time with a hiding Helldragon in their ranks.

An Ode to the Fallen
It's pretty good, but I got a little lost somewhere near the end. You provide good description, and detail. It's a bit on the short side, but its still a good length. I'll 4 it! So, I enjoyed it, but just make it a bit longer in the next chapter! :D

What part did you get lost on? I'm trying to figure out what I do wrong so it won't come back in later chapters and annoy everyone. And I'll see if I can't make the next one longer.

I had a bout of writer's block, but I'm typing up Chapter Two right now. And I just want to see if I can write something worth reading, so this story is a bit of an experiment. And I might submit it to FF.net as "Dragon of Disaster" later down the road. But for now, I'll just concentrate on making it longer yet still interesting as my rookie mind will allow and post it here for now.
