Discussion of Serebii's Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon Discoveries

I'm actually looking forward to this game's difficulty. Having beaten GTI in just 4 days with minimal grinding and only fainting once or twice (I know of one instance in Tyrian Maze), I think this will keep me playing for far longer, even if I'm not going to go for 100% (which I plan on going for).

Yeah, the biggest spot of trouble I had was the Munna bossfight prior to Kyurem. I kept getting wiped out until I found a passcode for All-Protect Orbs. I popped one--just one--and the bossfight went from murderous to a complete joke. Kyurem was also laughable with super-high-level Dual Chop, and even the uncrackable Bitterfrost was crushed into snow cones by my withering barrage of blades.

...Great, now I'm hungry for a snow cone. *facepalms*

Me too. I'm tired of easy games. They are everywhere lately. Some people criticize the game's difficulty because they think they don't have the time to complete it, but if you are going to spend a lot of money on a game, don't you want for it to last? Even if you don't have much time to play, you don't have to beat it in the same day you bought it, just take your time and enjoy it, try to progress slowly. IMO, games are like food, you have to consume it slowly if you want to appreciate the taste.
Not saying anyone has to buy it though, i just think some people could enjoy the difficulty if they didn't try to finish it so quickly.

The game that taught me this was Donkey Kong. At first i thought i disliked the game because it was hard and it made me feel stressed but then i noticed that if i tried to complete a few stages per day instead of trying to complete it the fastest i could then i would enjoy the game so much more and the game would last longer too. I was right at the end. It became one of my favorite games.

I'm glad to see that i am not the only one who likes the difficulty though.

I didn't get GTI because it was too easy. My favorite part about the series is that they're not typical pokemon games in the aspect of difficulty. The main games are super easy and this series, in my opinion, should be the opposite.

I got GTI and, as far as being a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game goes, it was not as bad as so many people seem to think. Yes, it was easy with introducing all these new mechanics without good ways to keep them in check (XY did this as well, except with them it's more obvious), but I still found it pretty good (aside from the obvious Gen 5 syndrome it suffers from).
But enough on that.
I think PMD has actually been fairly easy-ish up until now. Especially judging by how
the first boss is a mid-stage pseudo-legendary
, PSMD seems to already be far eclipsing its predecessors in difficulty.
Is this a good thing? Yes. It'll probably end up as one of the hardest Pokemon games in the entire franchise at this rate, which I think is a title it well deserves.

Just because it's more difficult doesn't make it better if it's of the bullsh*t variety, which PSMD appears to be.

I might skip this. Some of the new mechanics sound needlessly restrictive or too random.

^ I agree. Like, too much is too much. After a certain level they really should let us OHKO most opponents we run into.
No opinion is wrong though, it's just a matter of how one prefers to play his games.

One of GtI's main problems for me is exactly that: after the post-game story, or during it, the game became ridiculously difficult for me, so I gave up on it after unlocking the Musical Paradise. Hearing PSMD is leaning towards that direction, I agree with Karxrida above, I may skip this game as well. Not that I will be able to get it after all, given how everything regarding distribution of Nintendo products in my country is now completely on the air.

@Serebii, is it true that you can only have 3 in your party or is that only temporary or just for some dungeons?

I mean, that's not a deal breaker for me but it's randomly restrictive and pointless.

Pokemon actually having enough HP and attack power to be threatening at higher levels doesn't seem unbalanced to me.

They seem to be placing more importance on using stat boosters and leveling moves, which I don't really mind considering how overkill doing that was in past games.

GtI honestly felt like a joke to me in the post-game outside of the level 5 dungeons. Though I suppose that might've been because I switched to using Hydreigon as my team leader almost all the time.

Three is the new default team limit. Escorts for missions occupy a fourth slot, but story characters take up the third (Which is the main thing that bugs me).

When I think about it, the fourth member didn't really have much synergy in some situations. For instance, if you're in a dark hallway and you have an enemy Pokemon in front of you, they'd be too far away to see the Pokemon and attack it, whereas members two and three are able to do so. They're also too far away for member two to strike Pokemon in front of them with two space attacks like Quick Attack.

The only thing in GtI's post-game that was in any way difficult for me, was evolving all the Pokémon I'd recruited. That and recruiting legendaries, but I'd been grinding building mats for so long that levels weren't a problem. I stayed away from the challenge dungeons, tho, because I'm a wimp when it comes to the hard stuff.

Escort missions must be new so I can see why they did that now.

About the difficulty, I don't mind actually. It seems really refreshing to me. Kind of ironic that first people complain about the main games being too easy, then when we get a "hard" game people complain about that as well no offense. I can't really tell the difficulty because I don't have the game yet, but I don't think it's as hard as your typical roguelike game. From what I've heard, if you like any of the previous Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, you will probably love this.

If that restriction on using higher leveled Pokemon is tied purely to the hero's level, I'm making it a note to use all of my Joy/Golden Seeds on them so I have complete freedom in which Pokemon I can use.

That's a good idea! I hope they will be plentiful, but there will probably be a powersave code for them anyway.

I can't really give my opinion yet, as played or seen game play, I do prefer a harder game over an easier game. I just wish they could have made it harder without limiting you to three team members and restricting Pokemon usage.

I imagine this game is probably going to make a lot of people cheat due to being too bad and/or lazy (Heaven help actually needing to prepare for dungeons by leveling and such) to handle the postgame without it.

Though I've already made my thoughts about such players clear earlier.

I'm figuring if I need to stoop to that level, I will
a) only do it right at the end, and
b) only do it with TM passwords.
Worst comes to worst, I can do level-per-floor grinding early-on.

Does anyone know if there's a story after the main storyline? Like how explorers had the Darkrai thing and how Rescue had the Gengar thing going on.

Edit: Epilogue is the word I wanted to use. Is there an epilogue in Super?

Yes.

It's like GtI's in that it's simply meant to tie up some loose ends rather then being an extension of the main storyline like in Explorers, though.
