Notice how I said "I never went on Serebii around new generation releases" and since Serebii is the only, or one of the only websites I use for Pokemon information, how would I have known when the Japanese versions were released, so I wouldn't know how long it was in between the releases.

Does anyone find it strange that Rock smash is a tm now instead of an Hm?

I don't think anyone's really discussed this, but they handled the HM system a lot differently this time around.
From the sound of things, you only get Cut, Surf, & Fly in the main game. Surf is always useful, needed to get across water. Fly is just there as easy transport. Cut is used against barriers, but it doesn't seem to be used too much.

Strength, Waterfall, and Dive are never required at any point in the main game, it seems, and in the post game are just things that allow to go to new areas for extra goodies.

So only two HMs really need to be juggled, and Cut may not even be used that much over all. Interesting, no?
So... to put this in perspective, for DPPt/HGSS we had 8 HMs, I think:
- Cut
- Strength
- Rock Smash
- Surf
- Waterfall
- Fly
- Rock Climb
- Defog

Flash was then switched to a TM.

By my understanding then, they got rid of Rock Climb/Defog, put Rock Smash as a TM (which, I may add, is a good thing), and kept Flash as a TM.

So now, we have:
- Cut
- Strength
- Surf
- Waterfall
- Dive
- Fly

Half of those aren't "needed" till post E4/TP/N, and 1 of those hardly gets used after a certain point in the game. That literally leaves us with Surf and Fly.

Holy cr@p, did they ever reduce the amount of HMs for this game!

They could. Do you really think they will? With the 3DS out within the first quarter of 2011 and possibly sooner than that?
We did have to wait a couple years before we got a main game on the DS. Maybe it'll be the same thing here.

The point remains, however: Gold and Silver were dual-compatible while Crystal was exclusive to the new generation of hardware.
I get that, but the hardware leap between DS/Lite to 3DS is quite substantial. It's just a tad tricky to wrap my mind around how they'd optimize the third game for the 3DS in the first place.

I may very well change my mind once I actually see a few screenshots of Grey once it's been confirmed and they actually do show it. Until then, I remain skeptical as to how they'll approach it.

Also, how many of you are going to go with March as the possible release month/how my for April?

I wonder if they have increased its attack power to make it worth have it... I see no point in a 40 power attack.. even with a high chance of decreasing defence...

Eh true you're right with Rock smash I usually taught it to a slave. lol Whats this about grey? Is it the squeal to Black and White Like platinum is to Diamond and Pearl.

I'm going with April for the us release. And plus you know they are going to bring out a Mystery dungeon game with the new pokemon.

yes it is supposed to be the sequel, the name is just a speculation, but the main pokemon seems to be kyuremu... which I liked a LOT

I just noticed that Stealth Rock is not a TM this generation... I wonder what that will do on the competitive scene.

Edit: and yes, I realize I'm quite late with that info.

Ah that makes sense. Oh I wonder if it will get a form change like Shaymin. Hey is the flower that gives Shaymin Sky form in Black and white?

It could revert back to what it was before Gen IV.
More likely, people will just transfer their Garchomps and Mamoswines from Platinum and then use them.

in that you are totally right... did you all know that the DS can have a maxium rom space of 256mb, while the 3DS can have 2.1gb of storage... there will NOT be any "compatibilities" between both games... besides.. the 3DS is so advanced that it can desplay normal renderings used for the Play Station 3 and Xbox 360.. don´t believe me? try to investigate about resident evil revelations... if there will be a pokemon game on the 3DS they will blow our minds with it.. be sure...

Just because there's room for a lot of space doesn't mean that it will use all the space. And space differences does not even remotely mean in the slightest that there will not be compatibilty.
Put this in referece: Platinum & HGSS had ~double the mb used by DP

Stealth Rock didn't exist before Gen IV. And transferring Gen IV pokemon to Gen V will make sure it's still a presence there. Frankly I'm glad it's not so widely available - it was far too powerful in Gen IV.

But, with a cost: Stealth Rock won't pass like it was TM anymore. So if anyone wants new egg moves or Dream abilities they have to let it go.

exactly... did you know that the used space for the games in HGSS was 32mb only! and that B/W uses only 69.9mb! do you think that a game from a 3DS would accept a 69mb rom in a 2.1 storage without being from a DS... the standard for a rom is to be at least 1/5 space used from a rom... and a 69mb doesn´t make even a 1/20 part...

besides.. the DS can accept a maxium rom of 256mb... with trash in the code.. and the 3DS roms (or isos, or UMD) will have trash too.. which ovbiously will make them bigger than 256mb... and in conclusion will not be compatible with DS...

Oh you're saying that 3DS games won't play on the DS (and its ilk).
I thought you were saying theoritical 3DS Pokemon game won't be able to communicate with the DS Pokemon games.
