Disgaea Anime Released!

I just saw the first episode of the Disgaea Anime. I have to say it wasn't what I expected. Instead of following the games and making 'another game-based show', Nippon decided to follow the Manga instead (according to the fan sites), which I believe is still running!

Overall, it's a good start to a pretty messed up story. You have to understand that this Anime is based off a Tactics RPG where you could throw exploding penguins at enemies. You also fought a messed up version of the Power Rangers!

Important note: Lots of people have been asking about this on other sites, so I'll clear it up. The Invitation to Hell trailer on some sites is for a promotional Anime DVD that follows the game more closely. It isn't linked to the Anime series itself.

Dude, you've been here since last year. There's no excuse for not knowing you're not allowed to give out sites that host TV shows.

Sorry. That was my fault. I must've forgotten to delete the site name when I posted this here.

Ok. I should explain the game, since the Anime is loosely based off it. Basically, the setting is the Netherworld. You are Laharl, the demon prince who's been sleeping for two years. You wake up to find that your father, King Krechevskoy died from choking on a pretzel. Your vassal Etna has been trying to wake you up the entire time.

Anyway, tons of demons are now vying for control of the Netherworld, and of course you can't have that happen. So you go out to take it back for yourself. This all happens in the first five minutes of the game, so don't think I'm really spoiling anything.

The gameplay is very reminiscient of Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre at a glance, but it is far from the same style. While this IS a Tactics RPG, there is so much to do in the game, from combining up to four attacks for massive damage, to messing with Geo Panels. All in all, the gameplay is what the audience stays for. That and the exploding penguins.

As for the story, it is in one word, hilarious. The game manages to never take itself too seriously. This is very rare for Tactics RPGs, which usually end up being very dark and brooding. This game ends up being really cute and more light hearted, though the humor's definitely not for kids. The Anime looks to be following a similar pattern.

It'd take me forever to explain all the individual features of the game in one post, but suffice it to say there's enough to keep people playing long after the closing credits. If you want more info and screenshots on the game, you can check out the typical review sites such as RPGamers and Gamespot.

Unfortunately, NIS of America has a habit of not releasing enough copies of a game to meet the demand, so you might have to settle for a used copy at a retail store. It's still worth it though. Even with the dated graphics, this game's a definite keeper.

I think you're mistaking them with Atlus, who localized the game before NIS America was established. From what I hear, Atlus is pretty notorious for their low numbers of shipments. NIS America, meanwhile, had the game reprinted at one point, increasing its availability.

Now, I don't know much about this kind of stuff, but NIS America has, thus far, been doing a pretty good job at marketting their games. Logically, you'd expect them to make reasonably large shipments.

HORAY. Makai Senki Disgaea fans. <3

Anyway, I love the anime. I find it very cute and my favorite character seems to be Laharl and Etna (Well, I played the video game as well and looking foward to the upcoming game for the Disgaea series, Disgaea 2). I find many things wrong with the anime in comparison with the video game such as... why did Flonne have to wake up Laharl?!

...but enough with that. I love the anime overall. The OP is great animation-wise, and the ED is great music-wise.

And yeah. I'm a Makai Senki Disgaea fan. ^_^
