Ditto, Transform and Metal Powder

Ok, in regards to Ditto (And more in general, Transform, so that Mew is included too), what exactly happens when you transform?

I know you get their type, moveset, and ability, but do you get their stats as well [minus HP of course]? I noticed whenever I transformed into Agatha's Gengar or Lance's Dragonite, that I'd match their speed (And the 1 hit kills are a nice hint too, from Ditto's normally terrible stats).

And does Metal Powder raise Ditto's Defenses all the time [after Transform], or only when it's, "Ditto"?

1. Yup. You gain all their stats, excluding HP. Therefore, it makes the most sense to max a Ditto's HP when EV training.
2. I believe the Metal Powder boost stays after Transforming, but I'm not 100% sure.

I do believe that MetalMario is right, it boosts Dittos stats after Transform.

(smeargle can learn transform too. heck, it can learn anything)

I don't think Smeargle can learn Transform. I tried, I think the move fails if it tries to learn Transform.

I have boosted my Ditto's hp to it's extreme's, otherwise he'd be blown away in one blast... ^^;;

I don't think Smeargle can learn Transform. I tried, I think the move fails if it tries to learn Transform.

I've been meaning to try this but supposedly smeargle CAN learn transform... but only on ruby/saphire (not emerald).
Ditto's stats change (minus HP), not sure about the metal powder after transform. I've been pondering myself..... does the ev you trained ditto add in with the pokemon base stats it transforms into?

No, it doesn't. The only stat that isn't copied is HP, so you should train Ditto in that and possibly Speed so you can Transform and gain the opponent's stats as quick as possible.

I only posted origionally to point out that ditto and mew aren't the only ones who can learn it.

smeargles a breeders pokemon it enables pokemon to get incredible movesets that are normally impossible to get.
