Name: Garnet Avaritia
Age: 15
Link: Genesect
Gender: female
Personality: Genesect is an animal, pretty much. She sees the world as water, things that are food, things that are dangerous, and things that are insignificant. As she is stuck in a self-preservation survival mindset, she will attempt to seek a safe place and hunt. If something comes up that she can’t identify as water, food, or insignificant, she’ll assume dangerous and work to destroy it. She’s in a Pokeball most of the time due to this, so she’ll be partly sensing through her linked partner. Team Plasma’s modifications seem to have greatly reduced or eliminated any reproductive instinct.
Item: Soothe Bell
Gender: Male
Description: Garnet is only 5’1”, and looks rather androgynous, and can be mistaken for a girl at a distance, something that is a peeve of his. He is Japanese by heritage, but has neck-length blond hair (e.g., Leonel from Rune Factory 2), a rare recessive trait. He has thin, lightly slanted “asian eyes”, which are dark brown. His eyes are deep and serious, a startling contrast to the rest of his face. Everything about his features is petite. He has a small, elfin nose and mouth, with a chipped canine tooth. His face is rounded in a way that people describe as ‘cute’.
Garnet has a thin, light build. He rarely exercises or commits to physical work, so he isn’t very muscled at all. He is fairly scrawny, since food isn’t allowed in the library, where he spends many hours. He only weighs a little under 100 lbs. His skin is fairly pale, since the time he does spend outside is spent in the shady woods.
Garnet has small hands, with fingers that are slightly longer than average. He wears contact lenses, clear ones, not in any color. He wears dress shirts, which are always unbuttoned, over simple, solid-color t-shirts. He wears drainpipe jeans, which are blue, with white thread. He wears a single garnet earring on his right earlobe. The earring is shaped like a tiny CD. On his feet you can find a pair of worn black-leather loafers.
Garnet wears the Pendant as a watch. He has it on a silver strap that belonged to his father. The round gray/black shale is lighter than it appears, and stays on easily. The fossil is odd, it looks rather like a very small Kabutops, but more insectoid. There are also colorful LED lights rimmed around it that stay lit with no visible power source.
Personality: Garnet is intelligent, in a scholarly way. He is an excellent chess player, he reads often, and enjoys doing so. Very curious, he enjoys learning new things, and figuring things out. He knows lots of things, and enjoys a ubiquitous vocabulary of multitudinous lexemes. This makes him sound patronizing at times, especially when explaining some obscure topic. He enjoys working with computers, and writing new codes to make different things happen is always a delight.
For all of his intelligence, Garnet is easily led, and not confrontational. Rather naïve as well, he is very prone to peer pressure. He ‘reflects’ his surroundings. When he is with quiet people, he is quiet, courteous, and calm. When around excitable people, he laughs and shouts with them. This lets him fit in fairly well, and Garnet is always with a group of friends… or at least that’s what it appears to be. On closer inspection, Garnet is always near the edges. He laughs with them, but is never the target of a direct question, and is never expected to actively take part in whatever antics they have planned.
Because of his naïveté, he is easily made fun of. He hates being belittled, and can become openly hostile. He is often unable to see a joke, and once he finds that he was made a fool of, he becomes very angry.
Garnet isn’t a loner. He likes emotional companionship, without which he withdraws into himself. His best friend and Grandfather kept him sane. Without the calming influence of friends and family, Genesect’s insanity could be very dangerous.
Garnet wants power. He admires his grandfather, who was a seasoned Pokémon Trainer, because he resisted getting rid of his Pokémon. When his Pokémon were forcibly taken, he fought for them. His Grandfather lost, but Garnet admires his strength, and his courage. He wants to be strong, so that he can take down Team Plasma, and make his grandpa proud. He actually admires Ghetsis, as a strong, cunning leader. The way he took over, the way he disposed of the troublesome ‘King’. Garnet has no personal dislike of Ghetsis. He just wants his grandpa to be happy, and to get freedom from control. He has always wanted to be the best, to be better than his peers.
He has always been a dreamy child, and his childhood was spent pretending to be a Gym Leader, to invent something wonderful and becoming famous, and to win the Pokémon League. He dreams of grandeur, glory, and power.
Although Garnet can be swept away in arrogance and delusions of grandeur, he’s really a good kid at heart, who cares for his friends and family. Whether he will last against the maddening voice of Genesect will be a up to him, a test of his mental fortitude. But of course, his greed for power could be his downfall.
History: Garnet was raised by his grandpa. His parents were very young when he was born, and couldn’t take care of him. He was an “accident baby”. His grandpa was a strong man, who had once challenged the Pokémon League. His grandfather was unbending, and strict, but loved Garnet deeply, as a son. Garnet lived in Nacrene City, and loved the museum, and would visit often. He spent lots of time in Nacrene Gym, reading the books there. He was taught how to read by his grandfather, who said that a strong mind was just as important as a strong body. When he was five, Team Plasma took over, and demanded that his grandfather release his Pokémon. Garnet’s grandfather resisted at first, but soon, he was forced to release his Pokémon.
His grandfather was sad after that, and was more subdued. Because of the ban on Poke-balls, he never caught another Pokémon, and Garnet never got a chance to have any. Rather, he began going to a public school after fourth grade. He fit in, but didn’t make many very close friends.
At school, he did very well, but didn’t like physical education, having little talent for physical work. He much preferred the nice, air-conditioned classrooms. He did enjoy target sports though, outside of school. The satisfaction of driving an arrow, or a bullet into a target, and the focus it required pleased him. He didn’t like art. While he said it was because art was too inexact, and too subjective, the real reason was that he was a terrible artist, and didn’t like creating sub-par work.
Garnet’s one close friend was a girl, a year older than him. She was serious, but friendly. They shared a love of discovery, and would often explore Pinwheel Forest, mapping them out. He chipped his tooth on one of these encounters, where he was startled by a flock of Pidove. He had a bit of a crush on her, but she went off to high school a year before he did, finding a boyfriend as well. Garnet was lonely, and hurt. He turned further inward, becoming more obsessive in his lust for power and glory.
Garnet’s grandfather was growing older, depression at Team Plasma’s rule taking its toll. Garnet worried for him, and indulged in fantasies of destroying Team Plasma, and throwing Ghetsis off a suitably high cliff. When Tao’s package arrived, Garnet decided. This was his chance to gain power, power enough to get rid of Team Plasma, and make his Grandfather proud.
And of course, perhaps a coup d’état was in order. Lord Garnet. He liked the sound of that. He believed he would be a good ruler. A kind one. Genesect's power could take him there.
Other: Garnet is easily misled. He also has a great desire for power, and may be willing to sacrifice morals for the strength Genesect can bring. Whether he’ll control the power, or the power will control him is yet to be seen…
Pokémon:
Capo the Whirlipede:
Gender: Male
Appearance:Capo looks just like a standard Whirlipede, except his shell is lightly scarred.
Personality: Capo is tough and street-smart. He is often exasperated by Garnet's naivete, but respects him, and rather fears him, for his strength. He is very proud, and dislikes losing. He rarely obeys Garnet's instructions unless he personally agrees with them, and usually goes off to do his own thing when in battle.
Capo is always ready to attack. He cares little for the affairs of humans, and is always willing to fight for supremacy. He has aspirations for power just as much as Garnet does... they'll make a great, or very dangerous, pair.
Shura the Sigilyph
Gender: Female
Appearance: Nothing out of the ordinary
Personality: Shura is old. Ancient even. She has lived to see entire civilizations rise and fall. Thus, Shura is very patient, and very good at predicting the actions of people and Pokemon. She has seen every pattern of behavior. Shura rarely makes herself known, being a very behind-the-scenes person. Although quiet and calm, she has spent millennia protecting a long-dead city, and the change of pace was very welcome. Garnet is simply another target to be protected, if a rather more mobile one.
Eeks the Rotom
Gender: Male
Appearance: A bright orange fridge. Eeks is currently possessing a refrigerator.
Personality: Eeks is a bit of a spaz. Rather reckless even. He enjoys causing trouble, especially at the cost of Team Plasma. Although he is currently a refrigerator, he prefers to stay in his regular form, which is less conspicuous than the giant electric fridge. Easily bored and rather battle-happy, he is constantly moving.
