DivX codec help

Here's the deal:

I really want to watch .avi videos on my Windows ME. The problem: newest DivX codec only supports 2000 and XP. I have downloaded one of the older codecs. and now I don't know where or what to do with it. Eh...can someone help?

It's a pretty horrible way of solving it.

In fact, with Linux, you could probably run the AVI.

Oh wait... He was the codecs for the older version so, all's he has to do is put the files in the right place.
