Do we get too hung up about "lore" and "worldbuilding?"

Watching Dragon Ball Dissection, an excellent Youtube series that explores the famous Shonen series with excellent analysis, brought me to this particular part here:

MistereFusion makes a compelling argument about how worldbuilding is important but should be seasoning for the entree and largely peripheral rather than spelt out for us. I get why fans are often obsessed with knowing more of the minute details of a sci-fi or fantasy series because it's the unknown that piques our curiosity.

However, it seems like fans and content creators alike tend to get so caught up with the bigger picture that, well, we forget to stop so we can smell the roses more. It doesn't ruin anything per say but there's a sense of indulgence that doesn't always feel... right.
