Do you know if there are other starter pokemon?

Don't know. I guess I always assumed they were just pets or just found them in the wild.

my theory is that the trainer's parents or the trainer him/herself must pay for a "starter pokemon package" deal where they can choose one of three starter pokemon that were bred by specialized breeders.

However, the package is probably extremely expensive (somewhere around $400-$1000 or the pokemon world equivelent of that) and somewhat wasteful (since you only pick a single pokemon out of three) So most people would just try their luck and go catch a local wild pokemon or buy a less expensive pokemon from a breeder.

I don't think every trainer gets their 1st from a lab. They could befriend them or just buy pokeballs and start catching stuff. In the anime, and games, you hardly see trainers with starters anyway.

I don't necessarily think all trainers start their journey from labs; perhaps to officially validate it, but nothing else. I speculate all the professors have a hidden breeding place for starters. XP

I know not all get the Pokemon from the labs someone going from Fushia to Pallet town is just silly they must be bought I know I would love to have a choice of almost any unevolved Pokemon....

I agree with the people who say not everyone gets their starter from a lab.
Most people probably get their first Pokemon as pets, then when they're older they start training them and catching more.

Remember Wally? He didn't get his starter, Ralts, from a lab.
You helped him catch it directly from the wild. ;P

And it's not just Wally. Don't forget that A.J. caught his Sandshrew by befriending it. The animé is full of characters who did not get their Pokémon from a lab.

If POKéMON were real and I was starting my journey, I wouldn't personally start with one of the starter POKéMON. I'd go out and catch my own.

Actually, I think most trainers didn't get their starter from Professor Tree - regardless of if it's a traditional starter or not. My own character got her Cyndaquil from an egg that her father gave her.

Yeah, Eggs are another option. You could be given a Pokémon Egg to raise that would become your starter... [SPOIL]Haruka's Eevee is an example of this. It's not her starter, but if she had no Pokémon yet, it could be.[/SPOIL]

Or it could be a pet handed down or something. Whatever the case, a Machop starter would be sweet...
