Do you like the better development of the Gym leaders in D/P?

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
So far, each Gym leader has appeared in 4 episodes. They're really giving the Gym leaders more screentime than they ever had in the past. They actually feel like developed characters, instead of just battle drones for Ash to win a battle from.

While there were a number of Gym leaders who were really developed in older regions too, I really like the way Sinnoh gives them all extra screentime.

I'm really hoping they all continue to get 4 episodes each.

I´m very happy with the Gym leaders in this region. In the games, they were all pretty one-dimensional but not so much in the anime.

Let´s hope the writers keep the pattern of 4 episodes for each gym leader.

Fantina will probably get her 4 episodes when the group finally meets her at her gym as an introduction, one for the gym battle, and maybe 2 for the contests in the city as well.

I don´t really know how they´ll have Crasher Wake in more than 2-3 episodes. Maybe the group will visit the swamp and he´ll train there, or TG will attack the nearby lake and he will help out, like Maylene did.

Agreed. As long as most will be more like Maylene's, who appeared in four episodes without the 'Ash loses the first match, wins the rematch' formula.

I can see the future
They really have done a better job with the Gym Leaders. I like that the writers are avoiding the "Ash loses, wins rematch" storyline. The Gym Leaders have a lot more depth in D/P. I was actually surprised that Ash and Co. had not met Fantina yet, since they already were in Hearthome City. You know, like how you meet here in the game.

I actually love the way they're developing the Gym Leaders this saga. Not only are they getting more episodes, and keeping their in-game teams, but they are also getting Pokémon development.

Roark's Cranidos ended up evolving on screen. Gardenia had extra Pokémon that sent her messages, as well as the rather fast Turtwig. Maylene had struggles getting her Lucario to obey her after a disappointing loss.

It's nice to see that they're getting this sort of development, and I agree that it would be better without Ash having to lose to them once to get some more episodes.

Crasher Wake could easily get some. He could turn up at the Marsh, have a battle that goes over two episodes, and then help them chase down TG like in the games.

The thing I like most about this series is the fact that it's going so well. Everything seems interesting and new, and they're bringing things to the show we've never seen before.

Wallace will be appearing now, finally. Hopefully, they'll eventually showcase Will and Karen too, but we'll see about that, won't we. Phoebe, and the rest of the Hoenn league should also be shown, but to be honest, Will and Karen are more significant, as they'd then complete the Johto Elite 4.

Either way, this series is shaping up to become one of the better of the show so far.

...I can't actually see why anyone would answer 'no' to this question. It's awesome to see the various Gym Leaders come to life in a way they never have before. Only a sparse few ever got beyond an episode's focus, and even then, they were primarily just there for the sake of Satoshi's victories.

Who wouldn't like seeing Gym Leaders actually do more than just stand around and battle Ash? ...Well, I'm sure someone will come and complain here sooner or later.

I've been quite impressed with Gardenia in particular. And if James (a biiig if) goes back to get Cacnea, we might see her again, too. That'd be pretty cool. I'd actually like to see a trainer in this show actually go back to get their Pokemon after they dump 'em off 'for training'.

Its Great That They Are But Maylene, For Instance, Became Kinda Dull. She Had No Reason To Be In Her Fourth Episode.

It gave the writers a reason to further wh0re out Lucario.

For Wake, TeddiUrsa's idea of helping out at the lake could work, and it's an idea I see working especially well with my smexy Candice, since the Galactic plot will be culminating at that point. For Byron, they have a whole Iron Island arc they could squeeze in there. But the Galactic plot will likely be over by the time they reach Volkner, so I'm forseeing difficulties giving him a full 4 episodes unless Ash were to lose to him first. Unless, of course, they decide to undo all the wrongdoings of Johto and throw Jasmine in there and actually give her a personality...

EDIT: I'd also like to see Nando face a leader. Give him some proper battle screentime for once.

Volkner could get a whole arc of travelling with them. In the games, he has trouble finding trainers who give him the passion to battle.

He could meet Ash, have a little trip with Jasmine, and then come back to meet Ash with Buck, then battle. I think they could think of some easy ways to make a few episodes from all the Gym Leaders.

Thriller

Its almost time
I doubt all the rest are going to get good character development. I can only see Wake and Fatima getting it. Fatima, after all, did get character development in the games, didn't she go on some journey?

Wicked Witch
Volkner and the 6th Gym Leader who's name I can't remember for the life of me are the two I see having a really great arch surrounding them, especially if they decide to get Riley's appearance out of the way by having him show up in Canalave rather than Iron Island.

Volkner could get a whole arc of travelling with them.

I want this, too. Volkner could actually be on his way to fight the Elite Four when he meets up with Ash and company and decide to travel with them for a while. After seeing how passionate Ash is about battling he decides to reveal himself as the final Gym Leader when they circle back to Sunnyshore.

That would work. It'd be nice to have a four person group for a little while, especially with an awesome GL like Volkner.

Btw, the 6th Gym Leader's name is Byron.

yeah, one of the many reasons i consider DP the best arc.

i dont know what they can do with crasher wake..he was kinda dull in the games. maybe he will offer to train ashs buizel or something, maybe the misty cameo will happen when hes around, maybe wake can help defeat a galactic commander like maylene did or maybe he will also battle nando/paul onscreen.

fantina should be extremely easy to give screentime. an episode where ash and co. meet her, 2 episodes with her and dawn in hearthorne cities contest and an episode where ash battles her.

byron: his arc can involve his son roark somehow..sinnoh underground and battling nando/paul

candice: hmmmm...vs nando/paul?

volkner: his arc should be pretty easy. when they first arive at his gym they will see paul loosing to volkner, volkner will get all bored like he did in the game and cause a blackout, his introduction episode can revolve around volkner, paul and ash and co. trying to end the blackout before all the pokemon in the center dies. the next episode can be paul vs volkner again, with paul winning this time. then ash will battle him and win in the next episode. in his final episode he will die after he seals a ninetales that is attacking sunnyshore city in ash's body

<--- Best Rival Ever
i personally love this that there giving the gym leaders more than lets battle whatever trainers come by and then go hide back in our town gardenia completely has had the most development by actually making her leave her town not once but twice and run into ash's group and i can't wait till volker's ep i like thunderblade's idea bout paul losing but then heres what should happen the black out, paul softens up just a little bit, help ash with whatever crisis happens due to the black out then ash battles volkner beats him, paul really isnt shocked
and he says he has gained a little respect for ash since he first met him and nice
****** reference btw

Nice Post. I was thinking the same thing. In this Johto like length series (4 seasons) how do they stretch it out? By giving the gym leaders more personality and more interaction with Ash and the crew. I really like what the writers are doing with this. My only concern is that Ash is going to have a couple more losses but since Ash has only lost once so far I am hoping they don't do this.

The other thing I love that they are showing us more of the strongest trainers in this region or other regions (Cynthia, the elite four, and now Wallace). Is this foreboding from the writers that Ash and Crew will have to battle them? Who know but I've enjoyed all the episodes with them in it so far.

gone gently
I do like seeing more of the Gym Leaders. They are unique characters who deserve the extra attention, after all. I just hope the rest of the DP Leaders continue to have as much personality as the Kanto/Johto/Hoenn Leaders had.

I think Crasher Wake might have a battle against Paul since I think he mentioned the Pastoria Gym in DP69, Even if he isnt Paul's gotta face another Gym Leader down the line, In all honesty I want to see him loose to at Least one Gym leader and Ash take the win Just to spice up the rivalry

But yeah The First 3 gym leaders have really been Cool especially Roark, Rampardos was awesome, Hopefully they can keep it up til the Volkner/Ash showdown in SunyShore

Well hopefully if Paul is shown battling Wake it won't be a flashback and he'll lose this time and Ash will win on his first try that would be amazing, and Wake should denie Paul a second Chance to battle him until he learns how to truely act as a trainer and how he should treat his pokemon with respect.
