Do you think Alain defeating ash at the kalos league is rigged?

Leader of Jigglypuff Army
No more so than those times with Richie, Tobias, and that Cameron dip*beep*
Richie wasn’t really rigged. Ash was still a rookie and he didn’t have many intense battles to prepare him fully for the Indigo League as most of his Badges were just handed over to him either by a technicality or as thanks from th3 Leader for saving the day from TRio’s attacks. In Kanto Ash only truly earned the Thunder, Volcano, And Earth Badges. And yes he did earn the Earth Badge. He defeated Jessie and James in battle for the Badge and they refused to hand it over out of spite. The Boulder Badge Ash won only because the fire sprinklers went off and weakened Onix. Onix was clearly in the lead when they went off. The Cascade Badge was only given to him for protecting the Cerulean Gym from TR even though he said he wanted to earn it and he accepted it despite what he said earlier. The Rainbow Badge was handed to him just because he saved Gloom. That’s it. The Soul Badge is iffy considering Ash won in a battle against Koga but the Leader seemed to be holding back somehow. But the Marsh Badge is the biggest example of how incompetent Ash was during Kanto because he got it only because Haunter made Sabrina laugh. And Ash never actually owned Haunter. He never used a Pokeball to try and capture it or even used one when Haunter decided to follow the gang.

Tobias and Cameron were clearly rigged as Tobias had an unfair advantage having Mythical and Legendart Pokémon that would wipe out every team they battled against made even worse that his main Pokémon was a Darkrai that knew Dark Void And Dream Eater And also has the ability to cause nightmares. How is a trainer in the League that has a team of regular Pokémon like Weezing and Snorlax supposed to win against that? And Cameron as I said before just got lucky that Riolu decided to evolve and gained Super Saiyan Level strength out of nowhere. Cameron shouldn’t have won. He was a total moron that didn’t even know where th3 Zuniga League was being held OR the number of Badges he needed to enter WHICH season one idiot Ash actually knew the very first day he met Pikachu! And that’s saying something since season one Ash threw a rock at that one Spearow and acted so shocked when it rightfully went into a rage.

I'm not sure why we use other battles as comparison if the anime is pretty inconsistent with it. May I bring up the infamous "Pikachu lost to a Snivy but tied with a Latios" comparison?

because that's just Pikachu. the writing is often a lot more consistent with Ash's other pokemon and other trainers.

Exactly, and given how hyped up Alain had been throughout XY, him winning was at least foreshadowed and justified by his renowned strength.

I think this thread has run its course because we have zero evidence of rigging.

It feels more like "Let's bash Alain because he defeated badass Ash" thread.

Ash brought a Champion's ace to its knees.
Once again the "Ash almost defeated Diantha" argument...
The problem with that argument is that there is no way of knowing how that battle would've ended if Ash didn't pass out (which by itself showed he still had no control over Greninja's transformation yet). Besides, Diantha intention was to just test out Greninja's ability and not actually defeat him or anything. She only got serious near the end, throughout half of the battle Gardevoir wasn't even using her full potential, since she wasn't mega evolved.

Therefore, that battle doesn't prove by any means that he was ever superior to Alain in terms of power.

If it had been anyone else BUT a champion, then yeah, it wouldn't be a big deal.

Except Champions are treated as gods in the anime (except maybe not Alder), so of course it does matter.

They are treated as that region's strongest trainers, as they should be, due to their title.

But the fact Ash was able to land a hit on her doesn't prove by any means that he was superior to Alain or even Diantha, since a) that battle was incomplete b) Alain never fought against Diantha so it is impossible to know if he would do less damage than Ash did to her.

It did prove that he got stronger since, before the XY and Z series, he wasn't able to do too much to a champion (which is probably why you think they are god-like beings, when they were actually just far more experienced than Ash).

Pikachu was suffering from being overcharged by Zekrom, causing it to be unable to properly control its electricity while fighting a Snivy that was close to evolving, since it was using Leaf Tornado already

Trying to muster up electricity for Thunderbolt and Volt Tackle visibly caused exhaustion and Pikachu was visibly panting and sweating by the end of the battle

Pikachu's loss to Snivy isn't as bad as people made it out to be

Pikachu had 2 other moves and Electric is resisted by Grass so having Electric type moves wouldn't have helped
