Sadly this could be the case. Ash losing means fans may have to resign with the fact he is doomed to keep losing till the Pokemon franchise ends. Whereas a win may not bode well since his Alola team is not as “serious” as his teams from other regions since Alola is not a “filler” region like the Orange Islands. It's honestly going to be a lose-lose situation in the end whether Ash wins or not.
There's also the fact that this isn't like other regional Leagues in the sense that those leagues had a major requirement for entry. The Alola League on the other hand is a free-for-all.Whereas a win may not bode well since his Alola team is not as “serious” as his teams from other regions since Alola is not a “filler” region like the Orange Islands.
And how do you know that won't happen?Only way I see Ash winning is if Poipole returns as Naganadel and joins the team, and we know that´s not happening.
But how do you know that will happen? And how do you know that won't happen?
Merchandise seems to be hinting at itBut how do you know that will happen?
Sandshrew and Dewpider say hiI would hope Poipole's performance at the league would be better than Goodra's
Merchandise seems to be hinting at it
No.. I mean merch hints at Poipole returning, and it can evolve just before the league or during the league. But it looks like the user I quoted in my post seems to think Naganadel won't happen!!I would hope Poipole's performance at the league would be better than Goodra's
Merchandise seems to be hinting at it
Except in most cases this season it does?Sandshrew and Dewpider say hi
Merch doesn't indicate squat
And proceeded to do nothing until it eventually went back homeExcept in most cases this season it does?
And you cant compare Poipole with those two since it was actually caught
Now while I am certain that someone has already pointed this out but a thought just occurred to me; even if Ash does end up winning the Alolan League, what does that really mean in the grand scheme of things?
I mean, yes, sure, this would be the very first real official league win under his belt if the whole Orange Islands thing really doesn’t count. But, the Alolan Pokémon league is still only just now being created, it’s still very brand new and, if what was shown before is of any indication, then not that many people in Alola even know that much about it or its general concept, really. I mean yeah, sure, one could probably make the argument that the Island Challenges and the old tradition of naming an Alolan champion do both follow the same basic principles but only to a certain degree. And most likely, Ash will probably be one of the only select few who has experience in this sort of thing and say what you want about Ash, but he can really be a force to be reckoned with when he puts his mind to it, especially when he’s battling against an opponent who has less experience than he does, and it looks like he intends to train for this every single opportunity that he gets. But again, even if he does win in a league that he himself helped to bring about indirectly, then he will become the first Alolan Pokémon league winner of the very first Alolan Pokémon league ever and thus become the champion of a very small region consisting of four natural islands and a business complex at best.
Is that really as equatable to being the champion of a much larger region after winning a Pokémon league competition that has been around for a good long time as they make it sound?
This belief that winning the League is this all-important endgame has twisted the mainstream media's perception so badly that nobody stopped to think that maybe, just maybe, Ash winning the League would actually change nothing in the long-run. And that perhaps they shouldn't be hailing their original player avatar as this unbeatable idol that dwarfs everyone else... when said-avatar's actual achievements are relatively minor compare to the achievements of other trainers.
It wasn't twisting the media - it's 100% the fans.
I was on Bulbagarden in 2002 when Ash lost Johto, and people then were complaining about him never winning a league.
The complaints weren't quite Kalos-tier rancor, but they were similar because of how the loss was structured.
Harrison appeared shortly before he'd defeat Ash, much like Ritchie, but he also had this promotion-driven team of unknown Pokemon.
Charizard only lost to Blaziken because OLM/GF/Nintendo wanted to hype anime viewers for Hoenn.
"We're dropping compatibility with Gens I-II and the day/night cycle...and replacing Misty as a heroine...but you can pick the starter that btfo'd Charizard!!"
Ash lost the league because of a thinly-veiled marketing push.
