Do you think Go is being set up to replace Ash?

I agree that since he has a goal that's somewhat more realistic than becoming a Pokemon Master, it's harder to envision the anime primarily focusing on his quest for more than a few years. I want to like Gou since he seems harmless enough, but I don't feel like he has enough charisma to carry the anime on his shoulders.
I myself think that he would be a very boring protagonist, so I agree with you.

Yeah, Scorbunny being his starter makes me wonder if Go will be a long-term co-star. I mean Piplup was pretty popular for a while and yet they still moved on from Dawn when BW came out. If Eevee was his starter, then I would have no doubt that Go would be here for the long haul.

Not quite.

The anime is no longer tied to a region and the current show whole gimmick is about revisiting past places. It's different than what happened with Dawn because she was the poster girl for DP and Sinnoh specifically since back in the day the idea was to promote the region. Also, remember that back in those days, BW - the games - was meant to be a sort of "soft reboot" with things starting anew and that even affected the anime.

Now, with the show seeming to be more of a "neutral" ground concerning the region focus - and in a sense being closer to Pokémon Go than the games - it doesn't matter what starter Go has as long as it sells lots of plushies.

For the next generation they'll probably bring a new character - most likely the female - to show off the cutest of the starters while Ash and Go would keep doing their thing.

Honestly, all things considered, Go isn't going anywhere in my opinion.

On a side bar whoever is voicing Hau in my opinion would better fit Go. Hopefully he gets the role.
