Do you think that Pokemon is a special species?

I think Pokemon is a kind of speical species. If you use modern Biology, Physiology, ecology, Biochemistry to explain about this, you are unable to explain the behaviour.

THis is due to our limitation of techology. If some civizations whose techonogy is higher than us, they can explain it, isn't ??

i do not see how you can put intelligence into an animal it is merely a game to provoke your mind into playing it more nothing more and nothing less

Considering all tha many aspects that differ so much from animals, I'd say yeah, tch, they need their own sepparate class. o.=.O

In my head, there's humans, animals and Pokémon. You don't see regular animals producing giant flames out of their mouths.

Species-A fundamental category of taxonomic classification, ranking below a genus or subgenus and consisting of related organisms capable of interbreeding.

Not all Pokemon are able to breed with one-another, therefore, they are technically not all the same species. Pokemon would, in my opinion, have to be placed on a completely different scale then regular animals. Most Pokemon are sentient (self aware) and are actually quite intelligent. Some even said to be more intelligent than a human.

Finally, somebody with some intelligence.
This thread is to some extent, thought-provoking. It simply asks (THEORETICALLY!) how Pokemon would be classified if these creatures were actually real. How is writing "IT'S JUST A VIDEO GAME" intelligent? If you do not wish to partake in this thread, move on. I don't think you have to call all of us stupid simply because we decide to respond to a topic. You added nothing to this conversation. Good Job!

The entire point of General Discussion is to allow topics that aren't directly related to the game. Incase you failed to notice, there is more to pokemon than a game. There is an entire fanbase that create stories behind the game/anime. Yes it's a computer game, but so what? Unless you have anything useful to add to the topic at hand I suggest you shut up and don't post, otherwise you're going to get warned.

At the risk of being called stupid for posting in a thread that allows us to express our own theories and opinions:
Pokemon would of course be classed as different species, but the classification of the species would be difficult to define because of the Pokemon that can breed together, some Pokemon could also be classed as plants, such as Bellsprout or Oddish. For example a Raichu is able to breed with a Vulpix or a Snorunt, this would mean Raichu would be the same species as Vulpix and Snorunt. However Snorunt can't breed with Vulpix, so they would be different species. So the only way to calssify them would be to have animals, plants, funghi and Pokemon as separate things.
