What do you think? The anime's got about 400 episodes but do you think its jumped the shark yet?

I think it has since its really the same thing for every season. He goes on a journey to a region, TR follows, he meets new friends, catches new pokemon, wins all the badges, goes to the league and loses.

I think you must've stopped watching after Johto ._.

Hoenn is different, and that's why everybody adores it. It has May, who was bold new risk to a tried-and-ture formula. And she worked. Brilliantly, I might add.

Ash trained in Hoenn, and not just after Dewford. Swellow got Aerial Ace, Snorunt/Glalie got Ice Beam, and Pikachu got Iron Tail.

The Gyms, for the most part, were inventive and excellent to watch. Many of the Gym Leaders had interesting personalities and good Teams to back that up.

Then there's the Teams. Granted, the ending was anticlimactic, but up until then, Team Magma and Aqua were incredible villains, thrice and beyond the villains TR(and not just JJ&M) ever were in at least seven years.

So, assuming D/P follows in the noble footsteps of Hoenn, the animé shall prosper and continue to be adored. If the creativity suddenly runs short, then the show might perish. But even then, the die-hard fans will still be watching the new stuff.

Do I like some of the new characters? Yes and no. However, even though the anime IMO has lost some of its old charm its still a lot of fun to watch and they have some great new stuff like the contest eps. They did fail with Magma and Aqua (they could have done better), and I don't like May or Max, but for the most part they've done very well. Ash has a better team, theres more training, its less bland, and there have been some fun storylines. Contests were also a great addition that introduced a new kind of training, and Harley is the first true rival in the shows history. The anime has never been the top for quality, but its a really fun thing to watch and I enjoy it even when it gets corny

Yeah, ok!
It jumped the shark during Johto.

They saved it with AG, and got the show back on track. It's really rare for a show that went down the crapper to magically become good again and revive itself, I'm just greatful they did it.

I think 'dropped the ball' would be more appropriate.

Honestly, someone get a plumber out here on the double, we've got a clog from all the opportunities they've mindlessly thrown down the crapper.

Too bad that, in addition to the anticlimactic ending to their story arc, Aqua and Magma just plain didn't show up often enough. I kept waiting for the time that we'd see enough of the Teams to justify the pre-AG hype about them solving the deficit in credible villains, but it never happenned.

Hoenn was an improvement over Johto, but there are still plenty of shortcomings in the show that need solving. For example, too many fillers, and another rushed league that had too many OHKO wins.

The major change I think that needs to be done is Team Rocket. Especially, motto, clothes, and major goal (Pikachu);025;

Teams Magma and Aqua were an improvement on Hoenn. Hoenn is different that Kanto and Johto, but they had the same thing happen in the end... Ash meets new friend, new friend is strong and so are his Pokémon, Ash and new friend have to battle, Ash loses to new friend. I mean, everyone knew that would happen... it always does. so, I dunno if they jumped the shark or not...

Also, they left Magma n' Aqua out, a lot... I wouldda like t' have seen them more often, wouldda made things more interesting... poor teams...

[spoil]Their motto does change in Battle Frontier[/spoil], and they change their clothes all the time. :p My idea, since it's obvious Team Rocket will never leave the show, is to make them appear less frequently (about once every 4 episodes) and show more competence when they do appear. Being comedic villains doesn't require total uselessness. Those two improvements wouldn't be unconnected either, as having them show up less frequently could be explained as them taking more time to come up with better plans.

Whats the point of posting our oppions? Those who are watching the anime will continue to watch it regardless, and those who aren't watching it will for the most part, be dis-inclined to begin watching it anew regardless of what we type.

What about Vicous, Shiranui, Bashou, and Buson?

Anyway, I'd say the anime has its ups and downs. Jouto was crap for the most part, but it had its moments, like when Chicorita evolved into Bayleaf. Houen was good, but it had its share of crap fillers, and things really went to hell near the end. Battle Frontier was crap at first, but things really started to come around as soon as [spoil]Chiriin was switched for Manene[/spoil]. That greatness has currently seemed to die down just a little bit, though. I'd say the best happenings of recently would be when we've had [spoil]Kojirou winning a competition, Harley beating Haruka and winning a contest, and Juptor evolving into Jukain, the last of which I'd been anticipating ever since Satoshi got that badass Kimori[/spoil], and all in three consecutive episodes (and there were other good episodes afterwards, just not as consecutive, nor as ground-breaking as the likes of the former. [spoil]Though, "Jukain! Dawn of Revival!" and the following Brain battle were pretty great, I just gotta call "meh" on that contest with Wakana. Shuu's hardly a great character in my eyes, let alone a fangirl wannabe, and I'm sure some people know I'm pretty iffy on Wakashamo's sudden Mega Kick, though not as bad as some randomly-acquired moves. I do not, in any way, support Contestshipping, neither. It's a real shame I didn't find this ep to be too great, since it's the only Kantou contest thus far not to feature that dispisable piece of crap[/spoil]).

Though, as great as that may've been, and with one of those being an event I anticipated for about three years now, I wouldn't call it jumping the shark. I still have quite a bit to look forward to/get my hopes up for (depends on if they increase or lessen the opportunities thrown down the crapper, as Heracross put it). For one, there's the character development. AG's been doing great in that department (especially with Kojirou), so it's worth sticking around to see what direction that goes in. In terms of upcoming events, [spoil]there's still a conclusion to the Battle Frontier (be it a battle against Jindai or someone afterwards, I hope it's good nontheless), a Grand Festival, as well as a recently-announced future appearance by Harley. They might be trying something new with the Diamond/Pearl region as well, another thing worth waiting to see. And so long as the damned thing's around, I'm gonna hope that Zenigame gets its friggin' a** kicked and NOT redeem itself later, and maybe sometime afterwards, evolve so I wouldn't have to look at the thing anymore. I could actually grow to like a Kameil in the group (though I know the writers love the thing as it is, in its unoriginal, failed-at-being-cuter-than-the-rest-of-the-species, cheaply-powerful glory, for some reason T_T).[/spoil] But jump the shark or not, I and many others would still watch. If I could stick around through Jouto (and 4kids dub Jouto, with a steady decrease in the usage of original music, making things all the more dull), I sure as hell could stick around for whatever's thrown at us until the innevitable end of the Pocket Monsters series.

The orange islands was when the anime jumped the shark. Although you could argue it happened sometime shortly after the porgygon episode...

It jumped the shark during Johto, but went back once Houen hit. End of story. D: Early BF's Fillermania felt a tad like Johto, but that's about it.

i would have said yes if Hoen was still new, but the Battle frontier has restored my faith, its just as good now.

As much as I can't stand anything about Team Rocket (especially Jessie), I think they have much staying power as Ash and Co. It doesn't matter if they will always fail to capture Pikachu (or any Pokemon for that matter), Team Rocket won't be leaving the show at all.
