I am not yet used to the search button so please direct me in the right way if this has been made. My apologies.

The Question

Do you use your favourite Pokemon in your games no matter what because it is your favourite, or do you only use Pokemon that have great stats and moves. Perhaps your favoutites are a combination of both? This can be answered by what kind of battling are you doing.

My Answer

The Plot

I use a Semi-combination. I will have the pokemon thats my favourite on my team and the rest ones I like and have good stats and movesets. Butterfree is my favourite pokemon so I always capture it in Leaf Green, and always transferring it. Butterfree can be good with compound/Sleep powder. Not the best choice but its a morale boost.

Competitive Play [Elite four, battle tournaments, Etc]

I use a balanced team and choosing pokemon that are not legendary and great potential. Pokemon such as Milotic. My favourite pokemon butterfree would not be on my team as its stats arent great.

Thank you for reading this topic. I hope I was not too confusing. If I did something wrong here please give me kind suggestions how to be a better poster and member.

In the quest... it depends. Since I'd rather keep the only Sun Stone of the journey for a worthy Bellossom, and seeing how many of my top favorites aren't even available in some games, I just take two ways:

-I catch and train a few underdog favorites, and even a few tops, such as Gardevoir.
-I go the fast way: Train your Starter until the end.

In competitive and Battle Frontier... I use my favorites. I don't care if they're not decent or whatever. I like to believe they're capable, and they sure are. Plus, it's much funner and more special to win with those Pokémon you love, instead to win with the oh-so powerful ones...

Vaporeon

Coral Eye Trainer
I use favourites, and try to get pokemon that people never use.

Yes, I used to have a Kyogre & Regice on my team earlier before, but that's now changed. (My first all-water team)

I use Starmie, Crawdaunt, Articuno, Castform, Vaporeon & Sneasel on my team. My favourite types are Water + Ice and I love to have those throughout my team.
Pokemon 'on the bench' which didn't quite make the cut of my team include Kabutops (this is mainly because I chose Omanyte instead of Kabuto.. Silly friend I have), Octillery, Kingdra, Lanturn, Wailord, Milotic, & Huntail.

You Have inspired me to take my butterfree with me. I'll do just that. And Unleash my goal of a shiny butterfree :) Of course some of my favourites are great such as dragonite and Pikachu.

Yeah I do. 'Tis a shame that almost all my favourite Pokemon suck in battle through D:

But seriously, if you like a Pokemon, why not train it? Some Pokemon are powerful, while others aren't. If you train one Pokemon you really love, whether it's good or sucks in battle, at least you'll have the joy of training it. Besides, there's 5 other slots in on your belt for powerhouses...

Kabuto

No, I use those that can hold their own in battle. But I use my favorites as long as they can put up a fight.

Well, a lot of my favorite Pokemon are also pretty usuable, so that works out well.

I would not put a Jigglypuff on my team though. I only did that once to taunt a n00bish guy I was battling a few years ago. Luckily, I still won. :p

zuloon

Yeah. Well, usually. On some teams Zangoose (my favorite) just doesn't fit.

I find that the best battlers that I use become my favorites. Aerodactyl was one Pokémon that I thought looked good, but I never used one. Until FireRed came out, and I randomly nicknamed it "Xenocide." Now Aerodactyl is my favorite Pokémon.

Before that, I tired to use Meowth on my team. Even back then, I refused to give up on the cat, trying to train it against all odds. Then I finally learned my lesson.

Like you see, I love Sunflora, but we know it's weak, so I train it somewhat to make it stronger. And now, my Sunflora is very strong with its Sunny Day combos.

I know this is kind of off topic, but wow. That trainer card is REALLY good.

Butterfree can be good because of its compoundeyes/sleep powder combo. followed by powerful moves you teach it.

I don't battle competitively, so yes. i've had loads of lame and random Pokes on teams before, although nearly all have Umbreon and Machamp, and Ampharos is often used too. And Butterfree in the first half of RBY with Sleep Powder and Confusion creams everything almost. It's a valuable asset, and I took one against the E4 once!

I use a bunch of Pokemon that I like, often with decent stats. I usually wouldn't touch a Pokemon that I don't like, even if it has got good stats.
