Do You want May to Battle in a Gym and Ash to try a contest?

Once, yes. But either they utterly fail (as in, they had that whole 'you have it easier than me' thing and it's for the comic effect) or it's average.

Of course, they can't win the badge/ribbon, since they have no use for it and the other one shouldn't be able to use one won by the other...

Torchic23

gee that's swell
No not really. May should stick to contests and Ash should stick to battles. They'd both fail and it would be another wasted, pointless episode

Yeah, ok!

Well, assuming there's nothing against it, if they did both win they can simply trade the badge/ribbon to each other. :p

Realistically, I see Ash having a much harder time with Contests than May with Gyms.

Where May can use her Contest battling to get the upper hand in Gym matches, Ash on the other hand battles with mostly force, which will probably end up with him losing points. May has also had a very large amount of normal battles in the anime, so unless the Gym leader is really strong, it shouldn't be a problem for her.

Heh, Ash may not even be able to get past the appeal of a Contest. :p

I think it would make a good comedic filler. Having them both make funny mistakes and screwing up. I'd guess if they did that though it would have to be some random gym not one of the main ones. Although they both would fail I think that they should make it a close competition just so that Ash gets threw both rounds and May experiences a somewhat longer battle. Now that I think of it May has never participated in a battle outside of 1 vs. 1 and double battles.

If the D/P games have sixteen gyms and you still need only eight badges to qualify for the league, then I don't see why not, though that is very, very unlikely. I can't really see Ash entering contests in the long run.

It would be rather humorous, but I really think May should stick to contests and Ash with battling.

I Would love ash to try a contest and win xD

This is MADNESS!
Didn't Ash try once with Treecko or something? And since when did Ash battle with "sheer force," he's known for coming up with random craziness when overmatched and using things like speed. That and just about everyone loves that yellow rodent, and it looks rather cool when it tears the earth up - how is that not aesthetically pleasing?

Brock got to the very end.

Ash is generally seen as better than Brock.

Ergo, shouldn't Ash do better than Brock?

Which would mean he'd have to win.

Which would screw the storyline to hell.

One sentence logic is fun.

"<Man, if this keeps up, I'll NEVER impress those judges.

...Wait a minute, that's it!>

'Sceptile, use your Quick Attack to slash at the Bullet Seed with Leaf Blade!'

*Sceptile pulls it off*

*random impressions from the Judges*

'Alright! I made it to the second round!'"

Piece. Of. Cake.

Yeah but Brock knows what he's doing.

I can't see Ash going through an appeal round without messing up. He'll then have to make a comeback after screwing up (like May has done in several appeals), but it would be fun

it wouldn't be impossible. If there's a contest in the same city as a gym, and Haruka has all her ribbons (or wants to be like Shuu and just skip a contest), Haruka and Satoshi could get into another arguement on normal battling vs. contests, resulting in them each making an attempt at the other's field (I wouldn't expect them to succeed, though probably do pretty well for themselves). See, the problem is that contests are only there for a limited time in certain areas, and I don't really see Satoshi going against Haruka in one of them (he wouldn't be as easily motivated as Takeshi was), so there'd need to be some reason to have Satoshi participate in one and not Haruka, with the previous example being the best I could think of. Gyms, on the other hand, are always there, so there'd be no consequence in Haruka participating in one before Satoshi does.

Yea it would but just for once of course like [SPOIL]Brock entered that Pokemon Contest against May[/SPOIL].

I don't see Ash participate in such an artistic use of Pokémon as contests.

And I don't see May have much chance against an official Gym leader, who are to have more skills than your average Coordinator in battles. (from my point of view, anyway)

Not to mention it's pointless.
Ash wants to train his Pokémon to become the strongest and best.
May wants to coordinate Pokémon in both skills and beauty to achieve appeal (in other words, make model-ish Pokémon)
Why suddenly barge in on eachother's "area"?

Logic aside, I still don't want to see them switch roles like that. I just can't imagine it right.

This suddenly made me think of the Cascade badge. We did find out that Daisy and the others just hand out badges when Misty is out (the best part of the judge episode). May could make a necklace from their throwaways.

Ash in a contest would be weird. His pokemon have the potential to carry him through it, but only if he had Corphish do something wacky for an appeal.
