Do You Want the Day/Night feature to Return?

I personally would love for this to appear again as the DS is capable of doing this. Besides, Eevee was kinda confusing to get into an Espeon/Umbreon on R/S/E. Most of the game's returning features, speculations, and comparisons are to those of Johto's G/S/C game.

Anyway, while translating the page on the japanese website, it says the hero's time will be stored in the clock/watch on his arm. Go here to read on it.

Well I hope the Day/Night feature is brought back, to get another way of version exclusive pokes. Do ya'll want this to return?

Discuss.

Yes, this is one of the very best features of the GSC games. Gives the game a more realistic feel and exclusive pokemon entering at different times makes it all that more challenging to catch certain pokemon.

Come along, dear
I agree, not only was it easier to goet Umbr/Espeon, but we also must remember how we could catch different pokemon during differnet times of day. Aslo, do you remember the Moerning hour? It was pretty short, and had a lighter differentence to day.

At the very least give some visual representation so we know when Eevee evolves; even if we don't get to have the full effects of day/night simply tell us this niggling yet crucial aspect.

Personally, I like the dimension that it adds to the game in terms of making your journey more realistic. However, should they choose to pull this off I don't want to see all the Ghost and Dark types shoved into the night hours just because they're oh so spooky and it would be heresy to put them out in broad daylight, but if you have a creature that is genuinely nocturnal, so place it in the night category.

Also, I would like to see them implement more functionality related to the day/night condition: maybe you'll fight some farmer trainers getting ready to gather their harvest in the morning, while you can fight the nerd who spends all afternoon sleeping on his cot and the rest of his time playing MMORPGs during the night and morning. You might find botanist trainers during the day, and thanks to the Gardeners' Coalition you can enter your Grass types in a contest to see how much sunlight they can absorb in two minutes, which is at its maximum in the noontime. Just stuff like this will make the game a fair deal more enjoyable with night, day, and morning.

I hope so. There's no excuse for them not to. I'm hoping that they'll do 2 things: migrate the game's time-keeping from the cart itself to the DS's clock, and bring back day/night and time-based events as they were in G/S/C.

These two have to go together. The reason time-based events were taken out in the third-gen was because parents complained about their kids staying up too late to wait for Night. (I hardly see how 6pm is too late, but angry parents will be angry parents. Aren't they already the bane of Pokémon's existance?) This problem, and thus their excuse not to have day/night goes away if they switch to keeping track of time using the DS's clock. This is because they would have to open up the possibility for players to reset the clock as they see fit. Originally, GF deemed this unacceptible; cheating, so they locked off the ability to change the clock (except for a little backdoor). GF should (and probably will, thanks to the DS) abandon this stance. Changing the time should become one of those things they let you do but discourage, and which spoil the game. (much like trading your starter to another game, training it to L100, trading it back, and sweeping the game)

I hope that for day/night, we see gorgeous palette-animated sunrises/sunsets and 3d shadows which grow long as sunset approaches. All of this would be very easy to implement and cost very little on memory and CPU time, so I am hopeful that we'll see them.

The watch devices are likely Pokégear. While the site didn't exactly state that you get the time from them, I think it's safe to say you can, which indicates that time is taking back centre stage, supporting what I speculated of in the first couple paragraphs. In Ru/Sa/Em, you only got to see the time in your/your rival's house in Littleroot, which seemed representitive of the role of time in those games: a very small one. With time regaining its importance, it's only natural to suspect that its related features will be making a return.

Edit: Beaten *5. Eszett, you're a fast typer. D:

I usually sleep through the morning which can stress you out when trying to complete a Pokedex but definitely I would like to see it.

Yes please. One of the best parts of GSC. Oh, just make it, so that we see things OTHER than Hoothoot (or new night bird) please, that really ****** me off, particuarly in Crystal where they were everywhere.

I think, there's nothing negative about it, so why should anyone want it NOT to return?
It adds more fun and changes to the game, like day/night exclusive Trainers, Pokemon and Events.

But everyone knows that Ghosts come out at night! ;) I totally agree with you for natural creatures. Crows are diurnal (I often see them picking at garbage and being pests, overall), so they should be found during the day. If GF wants them to be creepy, they should put them in a forest. :)

I talked about alternate ways to find such Pokémon in another thread. In fact, we've already seen solutions to this kind of thing. In Crystal, during the night, you can Headbutt sleeping Ledyba from trees. I'd expect there could be similar solutions for most Pokémon. They have to go somewhere.

G/S kinda delved into this. Remember at the bottom of Goldenrod city there was a police office who battled people he thought we snooping around at night. Unfortunately, those games didn't have rebattling so you only fought him once.

I really like that idea, like example, in the morning, when the sun is really out, fire attacks in contests could have more of a cool or beaty appeal (whatever they are lol) than during another time. Hopefully with all those bright colors I been seeing from the new screens of the games, it looks like there could be a possibility of this returning.

Yes I think day and night should return, they took a step back by taking it out. It would be really nice combined with the weather effects they added, and they can even up the weather effect amount by including hail and sunny day as natural in/out of battle weather. Hail/Rain can happen more at night and obviously sunny day during the day...

*gets "Rain in the Night", from C&C, stuck in my head*

Adding to this (though getting a little off-topic), dynamic weather would be nice. There'd be a pseudo-random cellular automation responsible for the weather conditions on various routes.

I'm aware of that, Zoramon089, but it was a venue that I feel needs more exploration. Aspects like those make the game so unpredictable, haphazard, and generally fun. Hmm, perhaps there could even be some Pokemaniac who synthesized and drank an elixir to make him a werewolf-type guy. He uses humble Pokemon and looks otherwise unimpressive during the day, but becomes ferocious and brutal at night using suited Pokemon to boot.

To add an equivalent to the Night aspect of the game, you could play a game of invisible hide-and-seek using your Pokemon: essentially you have a board on which your Pokemon scamper about into bushes and crevasses, then one Pokemon that is "it" tries to hunt down and tackle the Pokemon that have hidden. Something like that, or even another type-exclusive event, would be a bully fun idea to incorporate in this game.

The day/night feature could also affect how attacks look; for instance, during the day, the Solarbeam animation could appear fluorescent and surging with energy, while this would be downplayed during the morning, and lastly at night it would appear weak and wimpy. Moonlight could shower the battlefield with twinkling slivers during the night, fade a bit during morning then be almost invisible in the day. The move would still have the same function regardless of the time of day.

MetalMario, you really think I'm a fast typer? I tend to think of myself as too error-prone; the Backspace key sees some heavy usage from me.

If they can do it RIGHT this time, then by all means put it back...

But if they'll do something reminiscent of the GSC Real Time, then...

Oh well. Seeing how the graphic engine won't take much space, or so it seems, it's quite feasible.

I liked the feature, but if it's done badly again... then I'd rather have something else...

Hell yeah! I loved that Day/Night thing! You could choose what to evolve Eevee into easily, plus it was a challenge catching all the Pokemon with the night conditions. Also, they should add in the rain and thunderstorms from R/S/E. I dunno what that'll do for the game.

I was gonna suggest they add seasons, too, but after thinking about it, it would make the game too Animal Crossing-ish. Plus, it would put some Pokemon at a disadvantage to the environment, making it frustrating to train them. Like training a grass type in winter, when only Ice Pokemon are out.

I certainly want it back. It opens up a good amount of possibilities. During the night, attacks could be five percent less accurate on diurnal Pokemon, diurnal Pokemon could fall asleep at random, nocturnal Pokemon could fall asleep at random during the day, and so on.

I really don't want to see Pokemon that are exclusive to any one time. Instead, a Pokemon that is very common during the night should be moderately common during twilight and dawn, and very rare during midday, but not impossible to find. That way, even those who can't be on during one of the periods could still catch the Pokemon that they want. Dawn and twilight would, for the most part, be a transitioning hour, where diurnal and nocturnal Pokemon come in almost even numbers, increasing one way or another as the sun rises or sets. We could also have a few crepuscular Pokemon.

Enough of this old woman's ranting.
