I really hope they are adding to their budget. This is going to be Moffat's last hurrah, they better use it well

I'm a full season behind--Clara and her storyline weren't really all that interesting to me personally so I kind of got out of the habit of watching it :/. I do like Capaldi but it just feels so different anymore.

I just wasn't a fan of Moffat's run at all. I liked Matt Smith and most of the other actors, but it's just weird for Doctor Who to be so continuity heavy. I missed the done-in-one episodes with a single story from beginning to end that didn't involve some larger story. Sure, it was nice to have the payoff at the end of the storyline, but sometimes it got so confusing. I'm not a Davies worshipper, but at least his stories were a bit more simplistic and fun. Hopefully Chris Chibnall spices things up a bit when he takes over as showrunner... except that's in 2018.

I believe that the Doctor used to do dirty work for the Time Lords. That's why he fled and is so disgusted with them

That's not exactly how I understood it, more he didn't want the Time Lord's responsibilities. I don't think it's well explained in the original series (I've only seen a little of it), which starts off with him and Susan already on Earth. I should actually read the book about the past regens I bought. . . there's probably some good hints in there.

I might be in minority, but I prefer shows with continuity. Not necessarily 2-parters, but when stuff from previous episodes becomes relevant (though Doctor Who would regularly have 2, 3, 4-parters originally), I find that really interesting. Time travel's too interesting a subject to waste on simple plots.

The episode 'Rose' (I think it's the first episode of the modern run, 9th Dr) is currently free on iTunes.

What do people think that the "hybrid" prophecy is referring to? I think it's symbolic. That the Doctor has absorbed some much Earth culture that he's spiritually and mentally half-human. And he has the potential to have Dalek traits, as we've seen more than once.
