All it really lost was it's edgy humor/sassiness and the more interconnected continuity it had till DP. Otherwise it's the same. This show isn't souless now compared to earlier seasons. Journeys has its problems but it has soul put into it in episodes, heck even in fillers you can see the passion
I also think modern saga (BW-JN) is better than the classic one and it feels like people only talk about the flaws of the current while ignoring the past flaws, either coz of nostalgia or because now it's more easier to jump on a hate train in the internet.
The anime is still pretty fun
