Does Gyarados every close its mouth?

Does Gyarados ever close its mouth?

Is there an explanation why Gyarados always has its mouth open??? I don't think I've seen it close its mouth at all! (Maybe it did once or twice)

I hope this wasn't asked before.

Its because the designers wanted it to look that way. If you don't like its mouth open, I'm afriad you can't do anything to change it.

Well, during the gamecube game animations i do believe Gyarados can be seen closing its mouth.
Perhaps it is just too lazy, or its breathing.

I swear I saw a Gyarados close it mouth before in the anime, but I could be getting it mixed up with the anime, mybe Gyardos just likes to have it mouths open, becaudse it good that way and looks furious

Gyrados probably feeds on smaller fish, like trout.(note that there is no PKMN called trout)

Yes it does. Get a Gyarados, teach it Thrash, and use it in XD. It flails mindlessly(which is flat-out hilarious to watch without the proof of mouth closure xD), and it closes its mouth.

Personally, I think it looks better with its mouth open. Closing its mouth elevates its chin in a very strange way, and it looks off on Gyarados ._.

This works with any number of attacks, Dragon Dance included, and far more hilarious. Have a Gyarados use Dragon Dance in a Gamecube game and watch it go into a violent epileptic seizure for several seconds.

Gyarados does close it's mouth, but I'm pretty sure it was based on an old Chinese dragon, which never close their mouth, and maybe that's why Gyarados' mouth is mostly open.

It keeps its mouth open to show off how big its jaws are and how sharp its fangs are. That's why its Ability is Intimidate. Lots of real animals do stuff like that too. I think that might've been in a Pokedex or something.

Gyarados doesn't close its mouth because it looks cooler with its mouth open. That's my theory and I'm stickin' to it!

i think it closes it in emerald in the animation...
but i definetly know it closes it in XD.

I agree, the designers wanted Gyarados to look like that. However, besides the actual sugimori art, it has opened/closed it's mouth in Colosseum and Gale Of Darkness.

I always wanted to know the same thing! But then I played XD and saw Kaminko's assistant Chobin send out Gyarados and had it use thrash. It closed it's mouth like ~*Commander Blizzard*~ said.
