Does Pokemon take place in japan?

Since hoenn, johto, kanto, and shinou are all mirrored to their japan counterparts.

If it does, then why are brock and his family the only japanese people on the show?

I kind of see that with alot of animes that apparently take place in japan, everyone seems like westerners there.

Since when was Takeshi Japanese?

Yeah, ok!
You must have forgotten how lucky some girls are in High school.

I remember many girls who had quite a chest back in High school, and that was back in 10th grade or so, let alone 12th.

To answer the thread question, no. The regions were just inspired by some of the reasons of Japan.

How did this turn from a discussion on the setting of the anime into a discussion on the size of Haruka's breasts? In under six posts, no less?

THANK YOU.

Although some people would make you think it takes place....in America!

But it seems to be mix of cultures, changing from town to town (Compare Ecruteak to La Rousse for example)

yeah, Pokedex makes mention to a lot of places in real life. And just in case anyone brings it up as a possibility, I can confirm that the references weren't just added in the English release (for that matter, from what I've read of the Japanese dex entries so far, the English version seems to have been pretty faithfully translated).

Clearly we're great!
I think it takes place in an area inspired by Japan, but the presence of other places shows that it isn't Japan exactly (IE, Larousse being inspired by Vancouver BC, Alto Mare being based on Venice, etc).

No 10 year old girl has boobs like Haruka does. Or any age up to 18, for that matter.
Saaya Irie, Google it. Prepare to be scarred for life. o_O

The anime does not take place in Japan. While the continents may be actually named after Japanese areas, the towns and such are non-existant. The Pokemon world is supposed to be like some kind of alternate dimension of our world. :s Sorta like how some anime have an Earth that isn't quite like our own; like Dragon Ball.

...Okay, just wow. XD

I find it wierd that even though the locations in the Pokemon world are based off of actual Japanese regions, the games seem to reference alot of locations outside of Japanese locations (such as South America and Machisu's Gym Leader title "The Lightning American"). I mean, yeah, they could just be locations in the Pokemon world with the same names as the real-life continents and countries that we know, but what are the odds of that? Esspecially since some of the regions in the games aren't exactly "named after" the Japanese regions they're based on (Jouto not being called the "Kansai" region and Shin'ou not being called the "Hokkaidou" region, for instance). Of course, those references could just be breaking the fourth wall, kind of like game instructions such as saving the game being said by a person or book in the game, but isn't referencing real life locations pushing it a bit?

That's why, in my opinion, Kanto, Jouto, Houen, and Shin'ou (pratically all the regions in the main games) make up the "Japan" of the Pokemon world, and as we've seen, Oore in the GCN games, could be apart of the land make up of the "America" of the Pokemon world. Of this could just be a theory of the game-canon. The anime canon - I'm not sure of.
