From Zero To Hero
Overview
Politoed
Politoed @ Bold
Drizzle @ Leftovers
252 HP/252 Def/6 Sp. Def
-Scald
-Ice Beam
-Encore
-Hypnosis
It's a rain team right? So Politoed is here to get the party started.
Scald as a main STAB to protect other team members from
boosted Surf, and also for the burn chance. Ice Beam hits Grass
and Dragon types that cause this team trouble. Encore shuts down
pokemon that have used a boosting move on the last turn, and
works especially well on a pokemon slower than 'Toed, that way
every time the Encore runs out, I can start it again before the
opponent can attack. Hypnosis in the last slot to shut down troublesome
pokemon immediately and get a counter in to take care of it.
Kingdra
Kingdra @ Adamant
Swift Swim @ Chesto Berry
174 HP/252 Attack/84 Speed
-Waterfall
-Outrage
-Rest
-Dragon Dance
You may wonder about such a specific EV spread, but let me explain.
According to a list compiled by someone on Smogon concerning
the speed list of all Pokemon seen in the Battle Subway, the fastest
threat to Kingdra's health is ScarfChomp, which sits at 231 after the
boost. Therefore, with a perfect 31 Speed IV, and 84 Speed EVs,
Kingdra hits 116 out of rain, and 232 in it. For those curious, the
fastest pokemon in the Battle Subway is Scarf Manectric at 258.
Using this guy in the rain, I see why Drizzle and Swift Swim is
banned together in competitive play, its an absolute terror to behold.
Waterfall gets STAB and a boost from the rain, reaching the same
terrifying power as Outrage, without locking into anything.
Outrage is back up in case of a Dragon coming in to ruin the fun,
but most of the time Waterfall is the main attack I use, when at +2
hitting even pokemon that resist Waterfall for huge damage.
Dragon Dance to make this thing a wrecking ball, usually one or two
do the trick, making him the fastest thing outside of priority moves,
hard to survive against. Chesto Berry and Rest to heal off damage
and wake up immediately. I had thought of using Lum Berry instead
of Chesto because it can get rid of any status immediately, and would
be especially helpful against any pokemon using Thunder Wave while
he is at full HP and unable to use Rest, but status occurs too much to
let me waste Lum Berry. Usually I find the pokemon that status me
are unable to do a lot of damage, so I have no trouble setting up
Dragon Dance, and resting off the damage and status later.
Thundurus
Thundurus @ Timid
Prankster @ Focus Sash
252 Sp Attack/252 Speed/6 HP
-Thunder
-HP [Ice]
-Grass Knot
-Nasty Plot
Thundurus functions mostly as a cleanup and late game sweeper,
coming in on weakened pokemon after Politoed or Kingdra has fainted,
and finishing them off. Max speed to outspeed as many pokemon as
possible, with the rest in Sp. Attack to be boosted by Nasty Plot.
Thunder gets a nice accuracy boost in the rain, not to mention STAB.
HP [Ice] rounds out the coverage of BoltBeam, and very few pokemon resist.
The last slot is a toss up between Taunt and Focus Blast. On the one hand,
Prankster Taunt shuts down anything that tries to set up, especially
pesky Ice types trying to set up Hail, but Focus Blast will seriously hurt
anything that doesn't resist, and covers anything that resists BoltBeam.
Focus Blast has been replaced with Grass Knot to take care of
bulky Water/Ground types that can cause trouble, and Focus
Blast's accuracy was getting annoying.
Scizor
Scizor @ Adamant
Technician @ Muscle Band
252 HP/252 Attack/6 Def
-Bullet Punch
-Aerial Ace
-Brick Break
-Swords Dance
Scizor functions very similarly to Thundurus, in that they are both
late game sweepers that come in to clean up, but Scizor has something
that Thundurus doesn't, and that's priority Bullet Punch, not to mention
more bulk and resistances. Bullet Punch serves as main STAB and is
used to pick off weakened pokemon, while Aerial Ace is used for
the Technician boost and super effective hits on Grass types that
can ruin the fun in the rain, but also Fighting types that this team
can have trouble with, especially Poliwrath and Toxicroak.
Aerial Ace also gets the benefit of never missing, which is especially
helpful in the Battle Subway where even after one Double Team, you're
most likely gonna miss, leading to more Double Teams.
Swords Dance in the last slot for obvious reasons, because who
doesn't love +2 Bullet Punch murdering everything in sight.
Closing Comments
I've been using this team in the Battle Subway
Super Doubles train, and it has enjoyed great
success, so far managing 21 wins before I came
here to post this thread. So please rate away!
