Well since there was a highlight of the past 10 years, i thought it would be nice to make a downfalls of the past ten years. Here, you can discuss about horrible things the pokemon creators did (such as the johto episodes ) and things that made you think, " What were they smoking when they did that?!?" Hope this thread is appropriate for this section :).

Taking day and night out of the games. :/ That was easily the most innovative feature of Gold/Silver/Crystal, yet is nowhere to be seen in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald.

Atari

Did it on 'em
I've always concidered Missingno. to be a good thing *coughcoughcheatcough* but I've also always thought the Japanese programmers were drinking or something when they added it. I know all the effects of it, and yip, there are indeed tons of them! But the Missingno. & the 'M' were really misguided into the pokemon 1st generation.

^ Yeah, that was a downfall. :\ (I'm talking to WG, by the way.)

Also, all of the rehase Pokemon in RSE was a downfall, in my opinion. There was so many of them in that generation it was sickening.

Agreed 110% on the Day/Night comment. ._.;

I also must say the popularity, but that was bound to happen. I must say, the newer additions to gamecube, as opposed to Pokemon Stadium games...

For the win.

Although I believe that even in the beginning there was a bit of a downfall by branding it primarily as a children's game. In today's society I don't think it would seen as so silly of a game if they tried to market it for all ages or just without regard to age as opposed to opting to gear it towards children. Or was it the media that made that assertion? Either way, making it a mainstay for the children was a slight yet largely ignorable downfall.

All the episodes nowadays are all in the same format. They're on some journey, they meet someone, brock falls in love with her, etc. And every episode ends with the same crappy sunset scene.

I disliked the over usage of popular Pokemon, but they sorta had to do that to keep pokemon popular.

Absol - wtf.

You mean "Holiday at Acapulco" or whatever it's name was. They weren't talking about it - James was pretending to be a woman to win a contest - so he put on inflatable cleavage. (Which isn't suitable for children.) But the whole episode was totally mutilated - which made it horrible.

Also - the episode that caused Seizures. They should've fixed it (by removing all the Red/Blue flashing lights).

Chronicles - totally screwed up. Gender changing o_O;, no original music, name errors (Eugene & Vincent - WTF?)

oh please... taking the day/night out of the advanced games? THAT'S the worst you can think of?

in my opinion, the worst downfall would be the kiddie-fying of the franchise in general.

Pokemon has tons and tons of potential to be extremely intelligent and complex, and take after real-world science and such... but instead it takes the kiddie route and dumbs it down for the childrens...

The cube games lowered pokemon's popularity alot. If they made a cube game SIMALAR to the handheld ones. It might have a chance of being suscessful.

Put two Regions in one game, which caused two things:

-Kanto became a saad shadow of its former self.
-Johto never got as much spotlight as it earned... no. Needed. Because progammers cut it in half so Kanto could fit...

Hopefully the next games keep the one-region trend unless it's powerful enough to have as many Regions as possible WITHOUT butchering them badly...

Also... the fact that Johto was just a sad subordinated of the Kanto League instead of having a League of its very own. All goes tied, though...

Gotta agree to an extent. Still, it's also a fact that the system's power made it badly conducted. Though the demographics of Pokémon you could find were badly screwqed anyway, Night was almost useless, and just allowed a hgandful of Pokémon. Most Pokémon could be found at Day, or at any hour. Morning was 99% useless, giving off a single Pokémon you couldn't find at ANY other time...

It wasn't even aesthetically pleasing either. I like to think that they also received quite a few complains. Night started too early for most people's average gaming time, and msot people would play at night most of the time, which cut a considerable amount of Pokémon availability. I also believe they want to wait for an actually worthy system that can make it both aesthetically beautiful (As in seeing the transition times such as afternoon and morning in a more lucid way, instead of it going dark just like that.) and with a more well-planned distribution of Pokémon, so it's an ACTUAL change to look for stuff during either time...

An awesome feature. There's no denying it. But if they expected they'd ruin it again had they included it this time, I'm glad they striped it off.

Not to mention Team Rocket getting in the way and always trying to steal Pikachu + whatever other Pokemon and Ash stopping them. It's too damn predictable.

I'm glad I discovered FMA... I still like Pokemon, but it's getting kinda boring.

Absol - thats the episode they had to mutilate because it wasnt suitable for Children at all...

-Chronicles - Name errors, gender change o_O;, no original music...
-Removing Day & Night feature
-Electric Hero Porygon - the episode that caused the seizures in Japan. (They could've edited it you know - but no...)
-Any episode banned for any reason...Guns, Earthquakes, Jynx, Disease...

Removing original music. For the Vocalists - they could've had the Japanese people who did the original songs do it in English...(Though the song that was in the Ralts episode Dub wasn't bad actually)

Editing something for Time, for something we don't understand, Culture References...

Banning or Skipping an episode that is dire to the plot (Ex. Legend of Dratini -_-;) (I know this contradicts whats I said at the top...)

1. It was made for children in the first place :/
2. Videogames are played by Children
3. Animé is virtually made for Children :p

I do agree that they could've had the show not so dumb-downed and kiddified as you put it...but what can we do? *Prays the 8th Movie isn't ruined!*

Nothing to be done
1. Removing Day/Night/Days of Week feature in R/S/E.

2. Making the anime. Ironic that the very thing that brought the games such profound popularity was ultimately responsible for the downfall of the fad. I firmly believe that the anime is soley responsible for branding Pokemon as a childrens' franchise, and making it, to some people, a social faux-paux. It's not surprising that this happened, considering that many people's only experience with Pokemon consisted of watching a TV show aimed at seven-year-old kids. TV killed the video-game star.

3. Jynx. What were they thinking when they made her black? Crazy Japanese.

Lil Brother

Just kinda there.

Things in bold are absolutely wrong.

Now then, I think turning the anime from a show with an actual plot to a show with 75% filler was a big no-no.

To reiterate and punctuate what I said earlier, it was damn foolish of Nintendo to curtail their market so severely by gearing the game for children. While children provide a strong and loyal fanbase for video games often to the chagrin of their parents, it isn't wise marketing strategy to cause your products to suffer such a bad rep. I'm sure plenty of people have these games as evidenced by their incredible sales, but frankly some people are too afraid to expose this facet of their hobbies for fear of being ridiculed by others. This was simply a foolish move with which to commence the franchise, especially considering that so many functions rely on two people with two different cartridges now. D;

Also, I would like to highlight my other beef with these games: The quality of the actual cartridges is mediocre at best. While they could have constructed reliable games that would last for a damn long time, instead people are experiencing the death of their favorite games much to their dissappointment. These relics ought to be lasting longer than the handful of years that they are remaining functional. While understandable in earlier times since it would be a bit demanding on our part to insist on them using reliable and inexpensive sound-data technologies, their continuing negligence is simply inexcusable.

Sorry if I came off critical of the franchise here, I still love it deeply but am a tad irked.

The day/night feature in the games, like in R/S/E you would be catching pokemon like Banette/Shuppet during the day and some all day long that would seem diurnal.
