Yeah i only had Chimchar and didnt notice that until later in the game. Then i got a Blaziken, and that was the only fire types i had.

Yeah I'm struggling to find a good fire type.

I don't want to use Ponyta/Rapidash again or Magmar.

Houndour is an option but I also used him on my last playthrough, but not for long. I only caught it so I could use it vs. the ice gym. I'll probably go with it again.

Well, I chose Chimchar so I had no problems with that. But the DP Pokédex severely lacks Fire-types.

There's also a lack of grass types if you don't choose Turtwig or if you're tired of using Budew/Roselia/Roserade.

I didn't really notice about this back then, because I used a Skuntank and he learned Flamethrower. I think there are many other options you could use i.e. not strictly a Fire type but a Pokemon who can use Fire attacks. Azelf, for example.

I ran a steel monotype challenge in pearl (but i only ended up using 3 pokes) not long ago and this went well due to the lack of counters, it may not bother some but fire type is one the most popular types.

There weren't many Fire-types in-game in DP, but that was fixed in Platinum where you could catch Houndour and Magmar, not only Ponyta.

In my current run of DP I'm not even using a Fire type; Ponyta gets old after a while.

And the most ridiculous thing is that even Rapidash is better than Infernape. For D/P I never bothered with Fire, they were completely nonexistent to me. In Platinum though, there was the option of turning Eevee into Flareon if you had Fire stone. Then again, I'd rather turn Eevee into Espeon :p But that's just me though

Gamefreak did a terrible job with fire types in DPPT, I didn't use a fire type in Diamond or Platinum.
Gamefreak, seriously? Rapidash and (ugh) Infernape? And I know Platinum gave us Flareon, Houndoom and Magmortar, but none of them really deserve a place in my team.
I also found the whole idea of only having like half of the pokemon introduced in the regional pokedex incredibly odd.

Seriously, look at Flint, who only uses two Fire pokemon even though he's a fire specialist Elite Four. I think they should've added at least one or two Sinnoh pokemon that were part fire and you could get Pre-E4. I don't mean make Magmortar available earlier... like completely new pokemon.

I used Houndoom and Rapidash on Pearl, the fire types were lacking though and as a fire type lover I was disgusted that Sinnoh had only 1 full line native to that region. On Platinum though I traded over Magmar (didn't evolve it though) to make things more interesting.

Fire-Types od DPPt? I rarely use any. But I did use Houndoom a few times.

Well, we only had one choice besides chimchar... rapidash. And some people don't even LIKE rapidash! I think that the best way to get fire type moves is using skunktank's flamethrower, unless you picked chimchar. Or you can use rapidash but I don't like him much...

I love fire types! Ponyta/Rapidash isn't THAT bad. Ive used mine in the elite 4.

You can get magmortar from pokemon battle revolution then trade it over and use that on your game.
