Dragon Battle! Ash VS Iris!! (1154)

Terminology here matter, Ash is the Alola League Champion not Alola Champion. You will ask now "Why does it matter? Alola didn't have one in the first place anyway?".... Well it matters because it was of the fact that he was the League Tournament Champion and not the Champion of the Region was the reason of why he was idly able to leave Alola in the First Place, without being obliged to any duty to the Region (Protecting It like other Champions of the Regions, ex: Cynthia, Diantha, etc.). If anything, he is nothing but the winner of a mere tournament, the tournament will be held once again, someone else will win it and the cycle will continue. It is as simple as that. Same thing with other League Tournaments/Conferences. The Winner of the League Tournament is not required to defend his Title like the Champion of a Region is, that is another difference. We saw Alain in XY&Z, that after winning the League Tournament, he went to back to being a Laid-Back Assistant. It is nothing but a mere tournament, the only problem is that the Anime made such a big deal out of it from OS-XY and had no concrete direction because of that people are confused. To make matter confusing they even introduced the so-called "Champions League" and made a big deal out of it in DP & BW (only to forget about it when Alain won the Lumiose Conference and went back to being an Assistant without challenging any Champions League, from this we can confirm that the Champions League has been non-cannoned and only existed to falsely hype up and bait fans.)

Basically, the only thing that Iris and Ash have in common with this "therminology" is that both are the strongest trainers in their respective region

Easygoing Luxray.
all leagues have to start somewhere, and i'm sure other leagues had rough starts and first champions and eventually elite 4's of their own.

Ash is the first one for Alola, like it or not, does he need to brag about it? no.

If we want to get technical here, how is Ash winning a quote "non traditional" league on screen any worse than Iris becoming champion yet they don't show her beating Alder or anyone else to obtain it.

Besides more than the titles being thrown around, in the end Drayden called Iris the strongest trainer of Unova, don't you think by his merits Ash would be Alola's strongest trainer?

Cause going by that instead of their titles they would still technically be even with each other as both are the strongest trainers of a region, champion or no champion.
As there is no previous champion or E4 so arguably the first Conference Champion can be considered as the first regional champion.

In this episode, Drayden equate strongest trainer in a region as regional champion. After Ash beat Kukui (Royal Mask was known unofficially as the strongest trainer in Alola), the stadium announcer proclaim that Ash is the strongest trainer in Alola, no one objected.
The problem here is the story makes no effort in painting Ash as the Alola Champion. He is just a league winner. No one he meets even knows his Alolan status (then again, no one in Alola is taking part in the PWC, bizarrely enough).
"It was a lot of fun to play Iris for the first time in a long time"

*walks away with pockets jingling with coins*

He has returned.
at this point i'm not seeing why this discussion in particular is being continued.

If people want to undercut the alola league whatever, if your tying to undermine Ash's win to save face for Iris, just stop because it's not going to make you look good and in the end neither point changes the outcome of what happened here.

Ash beat her and moved onto the ultra tier, that is fact. Deal with it even if you don't like it.

In all honesty I think the Master 8 is just going to be composed of trainers that were already there since the last Master 8 competition. With it just being a case of Ash managing to take a spot in the Master 8 from one while Bea and other characters stay in the Hyper Class or lower.
That sounds really boring for it to be the same people with only Ash taking someone's spot. At least 3 new people should enter that Masters 8 group, with 5 remaining the same.

Its not boring if they don't reveal all of the other Master Class trainers until the end. They could keep a few a secret for the surprise factor

All I know is that Iris deserves a spot in there, and it has nothing to do with wanting to see her vs. Ash again. I just think there's some unfinished business with seeing her full team of 6 in action to really assess her as champion. We need to fully confirm Goodra too.

I'm sorry, but she doesn't "deserve" it more than others, whoever wins the others in this tournament deserves it.
