Dratini is worthwile, since dragonite is the best dragon type in the first generation.

The Abra I got at Celadon city was lvl 9, So I'd say Dratini is within the range of 9-15. If I were you, I'd just go to the Safari zone and get a lvl 25 Dratini, since it won't take as long to train. Be warned that it'll take multiple tries to get it.

Dragonite is pretty well the ONLY dragon type in the first generation. >_>

And yeah, Dratini's definately worth getting.
I bought one at the game corner, it was in the level 20-25 range if I recall correctly.

Just to help you a bit, Dratini evolves into Dragonair at level 30, and Dragonair evolves into Dragonite at level 55.

Well hope this helps ya' a bit! ;)

Its at lv 18 and its worthwile. But I would advise you go to the safari zone mainly because its more of a challenge. Getting a dratini in the game corner is the cheep way out.

I am the game
i always get mine in the game corner so go for it. And its the smart way out to get an early dragonite.

I caught mine in the Safari Zone around lvl 27. i had FR but since u have LG..... if u don't want 2 raise a lot it, it won't be worth it at the Game Corner. the Safari Zone is the best shot if u don't want to spend a lot of time raising

You know what's even more of a challege? Catching a Dragonair in the Safari Zone. Is it hard to catch a Dratini? Personally, I don't think so. Why? Because in the first screen you enter there's a pool in the middle. Fish there (have patience) and you'll find a lot of Goldeen/SeaKing, some slowpoke, and some dratini. I personally found more Dratini than slowpoke, so I hope that's saying something.

With a Chansey on my team, I'm hunting for the illusive Tauros and Kangaskhan...now those three pokemon are hard to get (and Dragonair).

Didn't he just say that it's more of a challenge to catch one at the safari zone??

Edit: Sorry, I read your post wrong, you said it is harder to catch a dragonair.
btw I didn't knew you could catch a Dragonair in the safarizone

If you get a Dratini at the Game Corner, you could try for a shiny Dratini, its easier instead of trying to catch it in the Safari Zone cause then it might run or you might run out of safari balls >_<

I saw a dragonair, which promptly ran away when I tried to throw a stone at it.

I encountered about 20 dratini, in roughly 30-45 minutes of searching, before catching it.

Yea i wanted to train early and bought it at game corner. If you have patience just catch it at safari zone if not then get it at celadon.

Although I find recieving Dratini earlier on in the game, such as the Game Corner in Celadon City, better than in the Safari Zone, unfortunately, you probably won't have enough money to get the coin amount that you need to buy a Dratini. Though, if you do, then I would suggest buying a Dratini in Celadon, and raising it through The Rocket base underneath the Game Corner, Celadon City Gym, Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town, and the long route leading town towards Fuschia City.

Consider Dratini a huge project. To get a Pokemon to level 55 is very hard, especially when you get it in the middle of the game at a considerably low level. I'd get it, but make sure you're ready to dedicate a lot of time to it.
