Drew/Harley *major spoilers*

Yeah, ok!
So it appears that Drew and Harley's final saga in the Pokemon anime was the Battle Frontier season. They're heading to Johto now so we will most likely never see them again, and if we do, it'll only be in one oddball episode every 3-years or so.

Now that their characters have come to an end, it would be nice to review their characters in total from beginning to end.

Were Drew and Harley great characters? Do you think they still had potential to go on for another region? Did you hate them from the getgo or believe they got stale?

In any case both are confirmed to go the way of Gary so they're basically written off now. I have to say I'm surprised, Drew/Harley are hugely popular in Japan and to see them written off just like that was a surprise. Ah well, at least they did almost everything they could with Harley and with Drew before the end came.

Anyway, thoughts? Another brain-dead decision in the anime (considering their huge fanbases) or was it for the best?

I dont really like Drew so Im not sad to see him go. Besides he beats May to much,lol. I liked his character when he first appeared but later on IMO he was just boring.
Harley on the other hand was really amusing. He lost to May pretty much all the time but he was still a very good rival. In the "rivals forever" episode it seems like he has turned good now and if his character is no longer the evil type Im glad hes gone.
Both Drew and Harley have had a good run. Being May's rivals for two regions they battled her quite alot and put on a good show. But overall I think it was time for a change.

I never liked Drew. I saw him as a Gary clone with a slightly smaller ego, and he stole James's rose :( I did like how he had Roselia, though, and I'm surprised he left without it evolving into Rozeureido.

Harley was great and will be missed, but I think they probably did the right thing in getting rid of him while he was still fresh instead of killing his character in the way of Brock and Misty.

Wow, I agree completely with everything you said, especially the bit about Drew. I never liked him for those exact reasons, and then his enormous fanbase started swamping everything and it put me off further. He was a cute kid and all, but I won't miss him in the least.

Harley on the other hand, I am disappointed to see go, though I know it's for the better. He was one of my three reasons to watch contests, but since Jessie's not going anywhere and there will still probably be the occasional worthwhile filler character, I'm okay with it.

I never really liked or dislike Drew. He was to me "meh'. Harley, well he was a character that will probably forever be the only possible homosexual male in the anime (though he wanted Jessie to continue in Johto)... he was different (thats for sure).

You've got to be kidding. I come back and this is the news? Both Drew and Harley are LEAVING? That's got to be the biggest crap I've ever seen in my life...both were great characters with plenty of development to grow on..I don't understand it. x_x;;

Aside from some random cameos, Drew/Harley are finished. Shame, because I thought they had enough stamina to go on for at least one more region.

They've both been written off and gone the way of Gary. :/

Harely though... he was an excellent character, probably my favourite human character, I guess it's good that he's written off instead of going stale.

I'll have to agree with you...I was never a fan of Drew (in fact, there is a part of me that likes to dislike him.. It's hard to explain, so I won't bother)

As for Harley, well, he was hilarious, and I liked his interactions with almost everyone (him cosplaying May is something i won't forget very easily).. So, if he is indeed gone, I will miss him

To be honest, I always found Drew lacking in personality. Other than being May's first rival, he really has nothing on Indigo Gary. Looks like the badass known as Rozereido will have to find another way to debut.

Harley, on the other hand, is the greatest recurring character since the Magikarp Salesman. There was a point in time where I thought Harley was being overused (Last Contest), but the Grand Festival pretty much changed my mind about that for obvious reasons. Harley could avoid extra exposure by cutting down on appearances, of course. I mean, Drew had far less appearances in BF, and nobody minded that too much.

Hate to bring May into this, but if she were indeed being written out, Harley and Drew's absence wouldn't necessarily be a problem. But since we are still in the dark about things, revelations like this are a shock.

I adored both. I hated Gary in all reigons, so I was really happy they finally had good rivals. Its really sad and shocking that they're both leaving-I thought they would continue

Seriously, what proof do you have that Harley/Shuu are completely gone? I'm kinda tired of hearing you talk about "Harley and Drew are gone. Boo hoo for their fans." ¬¬

But w/e, I'll miss both of them because them = awesome. :<

I liked Harley, but he was beaten by May to many time for it to actually be considered a fair rivalry if he stayed....

Theres 2 possibilities: Since it appears Gary is going to Shinou, that could indicate Drew and Harley are just sitting out a gen. The second is that they're both done for good, which is very sad

Harley and Shuu 'getting stale' was never a concern of mine in the first place. It's not like either of them show up in every single episode, and they're only ever around for special occassions. And when you take into consideration that they always have something new to create some fandom buzz (especially Harley), there shouldn't have been any worries about it in the first place.

So, yeah. I think the decision was foolish, for lack of a better word. Harley was insanely funny and a great character overall, whilst Shuu presented some decent CD episodes and had his own interesting little quirks and character traits that seperates him from a lot of other characters. Personally, I never saw him as much of a Gary clone, barring his first appearence, so I'll never quite understand why so many people are at that angle. If they are to be written out of the show like so many characters before them, I'm gonna miss those two to bits.

Ahh, but you forgot the third possibility of them finishing the Johto Contests and then appearing from time to time about halfway through Shinou.
...Of course it's about as likely as The Human Fly starring in the next Spiderman film, but the chance is still there!
