DtC character drawings

Hello, this is my first thread in this section so i hope you dont mind. A few things id like to mention before i show off these images:

1) I wasnt sure if they were more suitable in the sprite section, so if a mod thinks they look more like sprites then please send this thread there.

2) This is somewhat important: if possible, later in my life, i want to attempt to become a video game designer. In order to become one, i must have an idea for a video game to create a video game(obvious really). Therefore, these are concept characters that may become actual video game characters, and there is an actual storyline to this aswell(got the whole thing thought up already). So anyway, yeah, these are the pictures for the characters of "the game".

3)(following the thought of #2)... the game's title is : "Daniel the Chameleon". Yeah, not very original, but its something i thought up.

4)Anyone who mentions that the first image has a striking resemblance to TMNT... well i havent really thought up a punishment yet... but he's a chameleon, not a turtle. Ignore the mask.

Here they are:

The main character of the game: Daniel Meden
Info: almost nothing is known about his past, he's a somewhat bandit/ninja guy who sports two awesome weapons(not shown).

A secondary character of the game(yet playable): Mikale Meden(Daniel's brother)
Info: barely anything, though he's into extreme sports and can take his own share of hurt.

Another secondary character of the game(^same as above): Rachel Meden(sister of Daniel(i need to work on her looks badly))
Info: same as above, although she isnt your typical girl.

The dark side of Daniel(well not exactly): Daslo
Info: a shady character who seems to look like Daniel, yet isnt.

The weapon genius of this game: Piina Colata(based on the highly popular drink)
Info: Remember Slim Cognito?(R&C)Same deal, although he knows a heck of a lot more about weapons than you might think.

The cool scientist who went to war: Scientist G. Kerringon
Info: lost his arm in combat, now he uses Daniel to aid in the defeat of a vile villain(havent gotten his picture made yet, havent found the time...)

The sergeant that doesnt like "chameleon's": Sergeant Major Iridiore
Info: Only good fact, the sergeant and kerrington were good buddies in a spectacular war that is somewhat in progress.

Well, there you have it. Hope you enjoy and give me some decent criticism. Also there are 2 more pictures, but there is something a tad wrong that i need to fix up with them.

So here you go and tell me how good this is.

You want to become a game designer? Cool ^_^

Anyways, how old are you? have you done spriting before?

There are different "styles" of sprites depending on the type of game you want to create. The styles of sprite you have here is more likely to be in a 2D Beat-em up games and platformers.

Possibly applies to some RPGs as well.

If I go really strict, speaking on character design, I think you'll probably need more variety in design. The 2nd to 4th is mainly the same as the 1st, but with add-ons or colour-change (Very common to games all around, to save time, but it's better to spend time and make characters unique).

My advice is plan them in pencil drawings first. Sketch more than one idea and try to keep improving your thoughts.

Character specification, it's quite short, but depending on the type of game and also I think for the mean time, it's ok.

Sorry that I gave a fairly strict analysis, since I don't know what you want to achieve yet.

If you just started in Game Designing, I think it's a really good start though ^_^ And I think you should keep going if you enjoy it ; ) Just keep practicing and you'll get better : )

Play a range of games, and see how they design theirs too. Work in your own pace, and just look for your improvements, keep all your work so you can look back later on at it ; )

Good Luck!

Yeah, i can see your point of views. I was mostly going to create something with a "Prince of Persia" design, except with firearms to add. Yeah kinda strange huh. Yeah im not doing any actual design... yet. But i plan on doing so very soon. In high school im going to be working with a special program called Rhinoceros(a 3D CAD program). That will probably enable me to create at least one of these drawings.

Also, i have created him before with pencil, but i kinda have this fear towards using it, because the hands and legs and pretty much all the limbs tend to be the wrong size and im quite picky; id end up drawing most of the drawings in side view.

I do play a variety of games, but i have another game(in my mind still, to be honest i drew the other one i have in my mind, but unfortunately, i lost all of their drawings. It was to going to be an RPG called: Fireball, featuring a flame chameleon with other elements of the same lizard species.)

Oh yeah and while im at it, the "Daslo" character, despite his appearance isnt a chameleon, he's a Komodo Dragon(doesnt look like it does he).

So, i guess i might try and draw these characters by pencil and show them asaic(as soon as i can).

Edit: Just remembered to add something:

I am 15 going on 16(somewhat scared though...), havent done spriting before as i dont seem to have a good talent for it, but maybe with some time and patience i can actually attempt it(which i have ideas for).

Prince of Persia with Firearms... There isn't one made yet as far as I know in game history, that allows reversing time with Firearms lol, actually that would be pretty interesting.

Rhino3D, I've heard of that, and also took a look. Good thing is that it seems to be able to handle Organic stuff (Figures, Plants etc...) as well as just Technical stuff (Buildings), making it more a 3D Modelling package than for CAD (Producing Technical Drawings). Anyways, that doesn't matter in Game Designing anyways.

Are you planning to program as well then?

Just thought jumping onto 3D games is really hard to begin with.

Also, i have created him before with pencil, but i kinda have this fear towards using it, because the hands and legs and pretty much all the limbs tend to be the wrong size and im quite picky; id end up drawing most of the drawings in side view.

It doesn't really matter whether or not the drawing's a scribble to begin with : ) Proportions doesn't matter much.

When doing character designs, usually they are refined at least 3-5 times before displaying, and then add a few more detail and increase the design before heading for production.

Applies to story as well, it starts of basic, and then slowly changes when you get ideas.

I do play a variety of games, but i have another game(in my mind still, to be honest i drew the other one i have in my mind, but unfortunately, i lost all of their drawings. It was to going to be an RPG called: Fireball, featuring a flame chameleon with other elements of the same lizard species.)

lol, he did look more like a dragon ; )

You have good mix of ideas there : ) Sounds quite interesting.

Oh yeah

k, when designing using pencil, "sketch" them out roughly, then keep refining them, take your time. Look around at other character designs. Once you think it's good, draw it up as best as you could ; ) That'll save time.

Good Luck ; )

Hope to hear from you : )
