Dubbed or Subbed?

Kite.of.Autumn

[SUB]Do you prefer downloading your own Pokemon episodes that are translated perfectly, have somewhat good violence, alternating opening themes that are good, and just plain rock?

[DUB]Or do you prefer tuning in every [day] at [time] to watch the 4Kid's dub, with cut out violence with a blackscreen with a flash on it and bad voices?

I prefer the japanese but I'm interested in what Funimation is going to do with Pokemon.

I watch both the Dub and Original Versions.

I enjoy the Japanese Version as it's unedited and the voices are hilarious [MEOWTH!], but I like the Dub because I actually know what their saying/going on and 4Kids does add in some political and popculture jokes I find humorous. Not to mention innuendos...god I love innuendos <3

In Conclusion, both are great in their own way.

I prefer the raw Japanese version. I may not speak Japanese, but I can still comprehend the story pretty well. And even if I don't understand the dialogue, the voice acting is still brilliant (Megumi Hayashibara alone is a genius - she's made Musashi one of my favorite characters).

Incorrect.

Remember people, fansubs DO NOT ALWAYS have perfect translations.

Violence? No. Comical/not-so violence? Yes (Kasumi slapping Satoshi). Although I remember them adding impact stars in the Kimori episode when Kimori pounds on Musashi.

And I disagree with the dub voices, even though I don't really *like* the dub itself, Veronica Taylor does a pretty good Ash. All she needs to do is to lower the tone down like she did at the beginning of the dub.

FUNimation has nothing to do with the Pokemon dub.

To answer the question, raw.

Raw > Dub and Sub. :p Plus, it's hardly illegal (to my knowlege) and it's truely in its original form.

Gee, that opening post certainly wasn't biased.

:/

And FUNimation has no involvement with Pokemon.

Uh...isnt FUNimation taking over the dubbing Liscense?! I've read that almost everywhere!

Where the hell did you read that?

Not even close. o_O No one is taking the license. The Pokémon Company is obtaining the marketing license of the show. FUNimation does not and never has owned Pokémon.

I prefer the Japanese myself. I adore the voices, especially Haruka's. I want to seek out more anime with that voice because I love it so much. Satoshi's seiyuu is awesome and the voice is absolutely perfect for him. Masato's voice is adorable, Takeshi's matches him great, and everyone has very good acting ablities. So, uhh...yeah, the Japanese version. ^^; I love it.

Not that I don't enjoy the dub. But in reality the English and the Japanese version sometimes come off as being two entirely different shows. I have a great deal of dislike for 4kids and while the pop culture jokes can be funny I do not appreciate their replacement of music and the pointless edits they like to do.

And some of the voice actors just...ugh. Mainly filler characters, they can really get some bad voices.

The dub feels so disconnected from the games because of the music. The voices tend to be alot better as well. The dub cries tend to be memorable only for nostalgia value, but the japanese cries are sometimes genuinely awesome, particularly Nyasu and Matadogas. I'm actually scared that after hearing the sub voices, I won't be ale to go back to the dubs on Saturday. That would be terrible. ;-;

Also, I do much prefer being able to see them any time I want on my computer.

I don't like unofficial subs as I do official ones (Because of translation errors/"cool factor" bias) but I don't like the dub either because the voice acting is subpar.

So basically, I watch either.

It would be nice if we had official subs for Pokémon...

Jap RAW I watch mainly, however subbed if I can find them. The dub is ok but doesn't come close to the original.

You're not the only one sighing. I worked on some of those oft-delayed releases.

Anyway, I haven't watched the dub for the past year, not since I found my way to bittorrent and mIRC. I know quite a bit of Japanese, so I don't have too much trouble understanding what's being said.

On the subject of fansubs, as Satoshi and Latios pointed out, they're far from perfect. Being a translator myself, I can honestly say I've made a fair number of mistakes in the translation which I only ended up catching later. Typos are a problem, too (recently, I watched a sub for a different anime, and "onigiri" got translated as "origami" XD). Regardless, I try my best to make it understandable to non Japanese-speaking viewers.

I prefer raw. Subtitles are helpful, but I usually find them distracting, and the dialogue isn't very important anyway, except for the movies or something.

The big isue for me is how everything sounds. I much prefer the music and voice acting of the original. And seeing onigiri instead of badly editted sandwiches is nice too. :p

Dub so I understand it >_>.
I second, the Music i don't really care about only the opening, plus someone here has to Truthly support 4-Kids even the only ones i have seen is Pokemon, Yu-Gi-OH! and GX.
