I think legalizing marijuana, gambling, and prostitution would solve California's budget woes. Nevada has less debt per capita than we do.
However, more kids will be getting into it, and it does have side effects. I smoked green often when I was a teenager, and when I moved out I smoked it every day. When I'm high, I eat. A lot. I went from a UK siz 8 to a UK size 16 in about 4 months. Thats a big punch to your ego, for any girl I think. I believe it also increased my agraphobia, and the paranoia contributed towards the breakdown of a relationship. I'm glad I dont do it anymore, then again I'd have the odd spliff if I was offered it.
Also, what about crime? I vaguely remember discussing this in my first year of uni Social Policy class (yeh I was probably high at the time). By legalising it, making it more avaliable, what are the dealers going to do? Turn to other forms of crime. Whats better, selling dope, or providing stronger drugs? Hmmm.. there should be some sort of provision in place to ensure that the street dealers dont go off the rails...
It remains illegal or even becomes a higher class drug. It can be hard to get in some areas, being a potential incentive for kids not to start smoking it.
Keeps the dealers and suppliers in work,
less chance of them turing to other more 'serious' crime such as theft etc inorder to make money.
And probably, the fact that it is illegal is a deterrent to stop kids from doing it. Nobody really wants to break the law, right?
The use of class C drugs is also strongly linked to other crime in the future, and use of stronger drugs in the future.
From a global perspective, drug trafficking (I think its more like class A drugs though) has strong links with people trafficking and the arms trade.
Really fancy a spliff now....
I also think that it's a person body and what they do with it is their choice. I put this into people trying to stop birth control. You haven no business involving yourself into what a person decides to do with their body.
By that logic we should legalize heroin and speed too then right.
I believe that weed should be legalized, but should have to follow the same rules as tobacco distribution. Nobody under 21 should be able to obtain it legally.
Tobacco can be sold to people at 18, bro
You're thinking alcohol.
And honestly I never understood why it should be restricted to an arbitrary age like 21. Europe sells alcohol to people 18 and over and theyre doing just fine, generally better than america any way.
You can blame the feminist movement for that. Here are the top three reasons why the drinking age is so high in America.
1. All the accidents that happened in the 1980s (damn you last generation of hippies.)
2. It was actually legal for women to drink at sixteen and men at eighteen at some point in the 1900s. (It has been so long since I researched this.) But, off that statement, you can see where things led. This is how the drinking age was raised to 18 for everyone.
3. Insurance companines continually lobby against lowering it.
