A very silly and light-hearted alien-invasion-type RPG, involving epic adventures, psychic powers, and plenty of fuzzy pickles for everyone! (Okay, just kidding on the last one.) You are all in for a treat!

The Story

All has been well and happy in the world so far. People have gone about their daily lives with hardly a care in the world, practically oblivious to whatever evils may have befallen this world in the past. Cities and towns have thrived. Nature has coexisted harmoniously with the civilised life. The world has had its quirks and its pests, sure, but nothing has ever posed a significant threat. It was exactly the kind of world the universe hoped for.

One night, many people all over the world looked up to the sky. There they saw the most spectacular sight: an aurora of rainbow-coloured lights softly dancing among the stars. Like any other aurora, it was confirmed by meteorologists to have been caused by an electrical disturbance, but nobody could pinpoint the source. Oh well, for now everyone just admired the beauty of these lights--they went on all night, all the way until the sunrise. And when the sun set that following day, the aurora appeared again. All night, every night.

After the aurora started appearing, though, strange things started to happen. Some wild animals went berserk and started attacking people (this went for zoo animals as well). Some plants in certain parks and gardens became mobile. Some appliances, machines, and everyday objects gained a mind of their own, though a very primitive and robotic mind it seemed. In addition, every day a few people went missing. Nobody knew how--they seemed to just vanish overnight.

But perhaps the most fascinating effect of the "Aurora Mysteria", as the news called it, was that a special power awakened in some people--psychic powers, or PSI for short. PSI was not limited to abilities like telepathy and psychokinesis, but also included the power to heal people, control the elements, and even cause disease in some rare cases. For the longest time, PSI was merely a myth--nobody in the real world knew how to use it. According to legend, whenever people in the world became able to use PSI, it meant that something important was about to overcome the world, an apocalypse of sorts. Therefore, it was to no surprise that these past few days have seen occultists spreading rumours about the end of the world, the "Rainbow Omen".

Starting on the second night of the aurora, people noticed that every evening just after sunset, a faint beam of light shot up from somewhere in the rainforest in the country of Quetzal. (This rainforest has no name, since it's the only one in the world. If you like you can call it the Quetzal Rainforest, or just the rainforest.) But no one dared check it out, and those who tried never emerged from the rainforest. After all, there have always been warnings about entering the rainforest, especially at night. There have also been legends of a temple inside the rainforest, but nobody has ever found it, not even the people who explored during the daytime and came out alive. It is said that only those with a special power can find and enter that temple.

On the third night of the Aurora Mysteria, some people spotted UFO's flying through the sky, heading for Quetzal it seemed. On the fourth night, they could see the UFO's hanging around near the beam, accompanied by some flashes of light. At around 10PM, the flashes disappeared and the UFO's started pulling out. But then something even stranger happened. All at once, every screen-bearing electronic device in the world turned on, and a picture of a strange person appeared on the screens. ...Or was it a person? With a metallic body, tendril-like arms, a blank face with a single slit for an eye, and an official-looking triangular logo on its chest, who could tell what the heck it was? Whatever it was, it had a message for its onlookers, spoken in a monotonous, metallic voice:

"DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE US. An evil power has awakened in your rainforest, one that is impossible to defeat. We are trying to..."

The image faded into static mid-sentence, and the normal functions of all those electronic devices resumed. The most obvious reaction the weird metal-person-thingy's brief message got out of people was confusion. Authority figures everywhere were unsure whether to consider this a threat or a lowly prank. As for the weird-metal-person thingy--thingies, rather, they did say "us"--those in charge simply called them "Starmen" because of their alien-like appearance. No seriously, they didn't know what else to call them.

The following day bore some shocking news: Eagleland president Sam Ford joined the ranks of those who had mysteriously vanished. When that happened, it caused quite a stir among the public, even in other countries of the world. People began to wonder if the Starmen were somehow connected to these disappearings, and if so, what business they had on Earth. For now, the government hustled to keep the situation under control, but even they knew that something had to be done about this. ...Only they weren't quite sure what.

No UFO's or Starmen appeared on the fifth night, although the Aurora Mysteria continued its increasingly ominous undulations in the sky. And as with the previous nights, the number of people gone missing increased as well. But the day after that night, something else interesting happened. Several people all over the world woke up that morning only to find themselves greeted by their favourite animal. But this was no ordinary animal. For some weird reason, those "chosen ones" could understand what that animal said. It told them briefly about the threat of the Rainbow Omen and the appearance of the Starmen, but then it told them to come to a place called Saturn Valley, where they would meet an inventor who supposedly knew a lot about what was going on. What sort of quest awaits these so-called chosen ones? What exactly are they chosen for anyway? This RPG hopes to answer such questions...

The RPG and Your Role

You are one of the chosen ones. You, like everyone else, had been going about your daily life until the Aurora Mysteria began appearing. Perhaps you have gained the ability to use PSI as a result, or perhaps you have some other special skills instead. Perhaps you know someone who has mysteriously vanished, or perhaps you are one of those lucky people who still have their families and friend circles intact. Although this RPG is based off the Earthbound/Mother series of video games and takes place in its world (in case you haven't figured that out already), you know nothing about what has happened to the world in the past, the plots of those three games. Some characters and enemies from those games will make appearances in this RPG though, so if you're new to the series, this is a great way to find out about them!

About PSI and other skills

PSI is a category of special powers certain people have. These powers are magic-oriented, involving elemental "spells", healing powers, psychic shields, etc. Typically when someone learns PSI, they start off using the techniques at a very basic level. That technique then becomes stronger with experience and practice. What follows is a list of the most common PSI techniques. Typically the offense-oriented techniques have the word "PK" before them, implying a psychokinetic control over some sort of element or force. Support and healing techniques typically lack this prefix.

PK Fire: This technique offers control over fire. Typically this technique covers quite a large area, so it can hit multiple targets at once. Most usages of PK Fire involve the user firing flames from their hands. These may fly directly at the target(s), hit a certain spot and then spread... Every person uses this technique a bit differently, and the same is true with all the other techniques.

PK Freeze: This technique offers control over ice. Using moisture in the air (that's my speculation), the user can do a variety of things: encase the target in ice, create icicles that can fly to a target, freeze water, etc. PK Freeze normally hits only one target at a time, and tends to do a little more damage than PK Fire (ignoring individual enemy weaknesses of course). The strength and scope of the freezing increases with experience.

PK Thunder: Offers control over thunder. NOT simply electricity--this technique is the most powerful of all the elemental ones, and always involves firing a thunderbolt. However, the user has poor control over targeting with this technique--you can never tell where the thunderbolt will land. It usually doesn't land on the user or their allies though, unless they're not paying attention or something. At the more advanced stages, this technique can fire multiple thunderbolts at once.

PK Wind: A semi-elemental technique; no enemies have any specific strengths or weaknesses against it. This technique manipulates the wind, creating gusts and even small tornadoes at the more advanced stages. While not as powerful as the other techniques, it can often disorient enemies or blow them away, and is the most accurate of all the techniques.

PK Ground: Another semi-elemental technique. This technique is more powerful than PK Thunder, but can only affect things on the ground (nothing airborne). The most basic form of this technique has cracks appearing in the ground or rocks jutting out of it; more powerful versions can cause earthquakes, which often hit allies as well as enemies.

PK Aura: A non-elemental technique. A lot of you might know this technique as telekinesis, because it basically allows the user to directly manipulate objects with their aura. At the most basic level, the strength of PK Aura is the same as the user's physical strength, maybe a little stronger in some cases. So it cannot be used to lift cars or shrink things. It can bend spoons and other metal things, though, in case you were wondering.

PK Flash: Another non-elemental technique, basically involving flashes of light. The most common effect of this is temporarily blinding a foe, but it can cause paralysis or even instant defeat. The instant defeat thing happens only in very rare cases though, and the chances become higher at the more advanced stages. Can also be used to light areas up, so it borders on the offensive versus non-offensive style of PSI.

*Note: All the PK techniques require an incantation when used against a living enemy. (You can usually get away with either whispering one or just saying it mentally when using it for non-battle purposes. The incantation basically provides the focus needed for battle-grade PSI.) This incantation is merely calling the name of the technique. The non-offensive techniques can be used without an incantation... and believe me, you'd sound silly saying one for those purposes.

Lifeup: A very interesting technique, Lifeup restores energy to someone who is feeling tired or weak. No, it is not the magic version of caffeine--it cannot make someone really hyper, unless the user deliberately overdoes it. There are even legends of people who have used Lifeup on themselves as a surrogate food source, though not everyone who uses this goes to that extreme. More advanced versions of this restore more energy, and allows use on multiple people at once.

Healing: Cures wounds and injuries and various ailments a person may have. The most basic version of Healing instantly eliminates minor sicknesses like colds, cures poisoning, makes sunburns disappear, and mitigates pain. It also has been known to have calming effects. More advanced versions of this can cure paralysis and more lethal illnesses and poisons, fix injuries, and revive someone who is unconscious. It cannot be used to revive the dead or restore youth, though.

Shield: This technique sets up an aural barrier around someone, reducing the damage done to them. At the most basic level, PSI and ranged elemental moves (like fire and water) can pass right through the shield, but more advanced versions can take care of that. Other more advanced shields can be set up around multiple people at once.

Paralysis: This technique causes a person's body to become numb, rendering them incapable of moving for a short amount of time. It tends not to work on some stronger enemies, though. Stronger versions of this technique involve petrification and a prolonged period of numbness. The most advanced form is rumoured to encase someone in diamond-like crystals!

Hypnosis: This technique is kind of the opposite of Lifeup in that it makes people feel drowsy; it basically causes the target to sleep. It works pretty well on most people, but some enemies are resistant to it. While asleep, an enemy is easier to hit, but attacking it can cause it to wake up. More advanced versions of this can promote good dreams or cause nightmares.

Brainshock: Another interesting technique, which basically causes confusion. It works best on those with evil intentions; the enemy becomes addled and may even attack itself. On regular people, it can do things like wipe a person's short-term memory, or cause them to twitch or walk funny for a few seconds. More advanced versions of this can control someone's actions temporarily or even plant thoughts into people's heads.

Hex: This technique is pretty well-feared, for it causes people to not feel so good. At the most basic level, Hex can only give people mild, easily cureable conditions like nausea, fever, or a cold. It can also kill small pests like ants and sometimes mice. More advanced versions of this can cause more serious illnesses, poisoning, or even death or agony at the most advanced stage.

**Note: There are more PSI techniques besides these, but they are too advanced for our characters' use and therefore are not listed here.

Of course, PSI is not for everyone. For some people it just isn't their thing. But fortunately, using PSI is not the only way to survive in a most unfortunate battle with an enemy. Some people have special skills they can use. These special skills come in one of two forms: they can be a general talent or area of knowledge someone might have, or they can be a set of gadgets or other useful items. Usually these are based off a character's nature or occupation. Perhaps there can be someone with hacking skills, who specialises in inserting viruses into enemies. Or maybe someone who enchants plants for various purposes. Maybe a pharmacist that makes drugs. Or an artist that makes their pictures come to life. ...Well, to put this another way, here are a few examples of skills used by canon characters of the Earthbound series:

- Jeff is the son of a brilliant inventor, and therefore has the ability to fix broken things. Some of these things can be turned into weapons or other useful gadgets, such as a slime generator and a counter-PSI unit. He can also spy on enemies to figure out their weaknesses.
- Duster is a thief, so he uses a set of "thief tools" to his advantage. These include smoke bombs, Wall Staples that provide a makeshift ladder, a pendulum that can put people to sleep, a Siren Beetle for causing distractions, etc.
- Flint, being the big and strong cowboy he is, usesly mostly physical attacks in battle. These "brute force" techniques have him swinging his weapon around to hit all enemies, raising his offense or defense, etc.
- Paula can use PSI, but another little skill she has comes from her spirituality. She can say prayers which have random effects, from healing to reviving the unconscious to making people cry, usually affecting everyone nearby.

About Enemies

The Aurora Mysteria has caused petty evil happenings all over the world. Things that were once friendly and/or immobile are turning against people! Yikes! I'll be introducing specific enemies as the RPG progresses, but for now I might as well give a brief overview, just so you know what kind of things to expect. Enemies typically fall into one of the following categories:

Animals - Some wild animals have gone even more wild! Instead of being timid around people like they typically are, they attack people for no reason. Tame animals (like pets) seem to be immune to this evil influence, but there have been reports of zoo animals breaking out of their enclosures and attacking people as well.
Plants - Plants are normally immobile, but thanks to the Aurora Mysteria, some plants now move around, and not in a friendly way either.
Appliances - It's kind of a rare occurrence, but attacks from things like toasters and fire hydrants and even cars have been reported lately. This doesn't usually happen inside homes; the object is more commonly from an abandoned area.
Robots - Robotic creatures have occasionally appeared lately. These robots tend to be relatively simple, and are most commonly found in Sunrise (see country descriptions below).
Monsters and alien-like creatures - Not a lot of these have appeared yet, though miniature UFO's that shoot laser beams are relatively common. Mutated animals are occasionally seen as well.
Ghosts - The world isn't free of supernatural entities either! Ghosts can possess many objects and can take practically any form, but they're stuck with that form once they choose it.
Other objects - There have been toys coming to life, piles of goo stalking people, phones and alarms ringing on their own, and even people being attacked by their own shadows, in rare cases! What is this world coming to?!?

In some unfortunate cases, enemies (particularly the stronger ones) can use PSI. But fortunately, there have been no reports of enemies using really powerful PSI techniques, mostly the basic stuff listed above. And if this section still doesn't seem to explain much, you can always browse around Wikibound, the Earthbound Wiki, for enemy examples, specifically the lists of enemies from Earthbound and Mother 3. Only a few of these will actually appear in the RPG though, and I will be creating lots of new ones.

The World As It Is Today

Today's society is modernized, with industry and electronics and wireless media and all that other stuff. It is the year 2012, one might say. Now, this RPG doesn't exactly take place in the real world as we know it. Instead it takes place in a sort of whimsical alternate Earth. The world has several countries, each of which seems to be a parody of a region of the real world (for example, "Eagleland" is a parody of the US). Here is a list of all the countries of the world, as least those known to people anyway:

Eagleland - The largest country in the world, and the one with the most diverse culture. People from other countries have been welcome here as immigrants for years. It's a very welcoming place indeed, and many people consider it the most hip and happening country in the world. The country runs on capitalism and burgers (as well as the best pizza in the world), but so far that doesn't really seem to be a bad thing. The only evils this country has seen, and this goes for the rest of the world too, has been in the form of petty street gangs and the occasional spontaneous crimes.

The capital of Eagleland is the city of Fourside, known for its many skyscrapers and terrible traffic congestion. For the last six years, Sam Ford, or "Sanford" as some people call him, has served as president, until he went missing that is. Fourside also has a museum that supposedly contains relics from the "Old World". But this place is closed to the public, and is under tight security. Oddly enough, there have been a couple of incidents where a thief had stolen something from the museum, but soon afterward another thief stole that thing from the first thief and turned it in to the police. That's karma for ya, mate.

But Fourside is by no means the only city in Eagleland. Feel free to create your own towns and cities here. But here's one caveat to those of you previously familiar with Earthbound: All other old-world towns, like Onett and Threed, no longer exist. They were destroyed at the end of the old world. It remains a mystery, then, how Fourside survived...

Winters - The northernmost country in the world, famous for having lots of snow in the winter. But the weather during the rest of the year is quite pleasant, especially with its mild summers. Winters has some beautiful architecture in its towns, and quite a few castles as well. (Some of its inhabitants have petitioned to change the country's name to "Castles", but without success.) There are four distinct landmarks in Winters as well. One is Lake Tess, where a plethora of strange monsters make their home in the icy waters. They are rumoured to be the children of one giant monster, Tessie, who inhabited the lake in ancient times. Then there's Stonehenge, a strange arrangement of giant stones that occultists tend to flock to. Apparently a great power was once awakened at the centre of the rocky circle.

The third main landmark of Winters is the Imperial Castle, the largest and most ornately-decorated castle in the country. Bright purple in colour and with perfectly constructed turrets, it looks like something right out of a faery tale. But more importantly, this is where the king or queen of Winters lives. The country is currently ruled by King Ferdinand, who loves roasted duck and hosting grand events, such as hunts, feasts, comedy shows, animal races, and fencing and archery tournaments. Winters is also home to the most prestigious school in the world, Reynard University, whose mascot is the proud yet tricky red fox. Many references are made to this school's extensive history, which may be more extensive than people think...

Summers - If there's a Winters, there has to be a Summers as well, right? Summers is known as "the great vacation spot of the world". It has a very long shoreline lined with quaint, rustic-looking buildings which are very well kept. This place is famous for its palm trees and its beautiful weather--it never snows, and the winters are rainy while the summers are warm and dry. The very long beach of Summers offers views of astonishingly spectacular sunsets. This makes it a great place for dates, both the romantic kind and the kind that grows on palm trees.

A closer look at Summers reveals that it is divided into two semi-distinct halves. The northern half is home to many restaurants, bars, and clubs, a great place for a party. The Barefoot Club is especially famous because people dance in their bare feet on the sand. The southern half, by contrast, is more quiet and serene. Loud music is outlawed in this half of the island. Southern Summers is home to many luxurious hotels and resorts, and is a popular vacationing place for workers. A famous landmark here is the Twin Palms Elderly Centre, where a lot of rich (and some non-rich) old people live after they retire. In the very southern tip is the Port of Toto, where many cruise lines depart. Oh, and the eastern coast of Summers is home to a thriving gay community as well, commonly called the Rainbow Isle. People living here are known to be very friendly, but a bit strange.

Dalaam - A country far to the east of Eagleland. This is a very mountainous region, so the people living there have to adapt to the high elevation. But that is also part of the beauty of this country: because it is at sugh high elevation, the clouds are very close above people's heads, and in some cases below their feet. The culture of Dalaam is very spiritual. Many people hang prayer flags outside their homes, and this is the best place in the world to study meditation and the martial arts. The afternoon sun shines on the shimmering steeples of Dalaam's temples, and even more spectacularly on the golden crowns on the towers of the royal palace.

Of course, Dalaam is not without its quirks--in fact this country has quite a few. This country is currently ruled by an unnamed shah and his son, Prince Rama. Though breathtakingly handsome, Rama isn't exactly the most sane person on the planet. He's an alcoholic, for one thing, and enjoys hitting on women while drunk. He even has his own harem inside and outside the palace--not of women, but of llamas. Lots of llamas. This has caused the country to be jokingly called "Dallama" and the prince to be called "Rama-Lama-Ding-Dong". And apparently because of this crazy ruler, a colony of flying pink elephants has recently occupied the clouds surrounding the mountains. Indeed, this crazy prince is rumoured to have some hidden powers...

Scaraba - A country to the southeast of Eagleland. It has a hot, arid climate, especially in the northern region. Much of this part of the country is desert, with the occasional sandstorm blowing over the towns. Towns are typically built in places with lots of ground water, or along the coast. Many of the buildings here are made of stone, and pyramids are a common sight here. Some of the pyramids are very ancient-looking with a few stones chipped or even missing; others look to be newly built.

One thing Scaraba is known for is its large outdoor marketplaces. These are good places to buy rare and exotic goods and watch street performers, but beware: the marketplaces are loosely regulated, and if you're not careful you might end up not getting what you were looking for. Another important landmark, perhaps the most major one in Scaraba, is the Great Pyramid located in the northeastern corner of the country. A great statue of a sphinx rests in front of it, and the inside of the pyramid is frequently used as a gathering place or festival venue. There are other levels below this landing, but entry is strictly prohibited due to legends of a curse...

The southern part of this country, separated from the north by the River of Denial, contains mostly marshland and grassland. It has a much nicer climate and is very popular with farmers and nature-lovers.

Sunrise - A relatively small country north of Dalaam, known quite obviously for its beautiful sunrises. That is why the big city on the east coast of Sunrise has very strict smog regulations. This city has no official name, but many people like to call it "Robot City" because of it being on the cutting edge of new technology, especially with respect to robot technology. Robot pets are more common here than animal pets, and there are robots that clean floors and brew coffee as well! Artificial intelligence is both primitive and expensive, so robot servants are typically only owned by the rich. Anyone seeking a technological patent will do good to look here first. Oh, and the headquarters of Nintendo are also located in Robot City.

The valleys southwest of Robot City contain stunning scenery and beautifully decorated gardens. This place houses the town of Sakura, which is famous for having lots of blossoming cherry trees in the spring. It also houses numerous theatres featuring practically every kind of live show, both classical and modern, imaginable. If you're looking for rock concerts and movie theatres, go to Robot City instead. And finally, in the centre of Sunrise is the beautiful yet ominous Mt. Itoi. Nobody has ever seen the top of this mountain, because it extends all the way into the clouds. Nobody dares climb it, due to its barren and slippery slopes, scary caves, and the rumoured presence of blood-thirsty monsters.

Quetzal - Located due west of Scaraba, but completely the opposite of Scaraba climate-wise. Okay, it can still get pretty warm here, but much of the land area of Quetzal is rainforest. The weather stays warm and humid all year, but lots of refreshing breezes blow through. This is a popular place to live for those who hate cold weather. It does rain a lot, but most of that rain is concentrated in the rainforest. This area is also called the "fruit basket of the world" because of the large variety of produce produced here. (Produce produced? How redundant.) As for the rainforest itself... You better enter with a compass, for it's very easy to get lost in there. Especially if you get distracted by all the monkeys and colourful birds in there!

But the rainforest has more mystery to it than one might think. First, it is home to two indigenous peoples: the flower-headed Bromelia and the mushroom-headed Amanita, both small rabbit-like critters that inhabit the treetops (in the Bromelia's case) or the forest floor (in the Amanita's case). Not much is known about their culture, except that the two races quarrel a lot. Also mysterious is the country's main landmark: the Chupichupyoi Temple, located deep within the rainforest, so deep that no one knows its exact location. (People who cannot pronounce its name simply call it the Chupi-Chupi Temple.) Nor have there ever been any reports of people who have visited it. Apparently all visitors have either vanished or died. Folk stories about this temple are frequently heard echoing through the rainforest.

One final landmark of Quetzal is in the civilised portion of the country. This place houses the Rio Theatre, a huge concert venue where bands from all over the world dream of performing at someday. The area nearby is a popular place to go shopping without worrying about insanely high prices.

* * *

Oh yeah, speaking of the Rio Theatre and other performance venues, here's a list of three bands that exist in the world. These are by no means the only ones that exist; they'll just be the most important ones in this RPG. For now I'm just listing them for the heck of it, so feel free to skip over it if you like. Just in case there are any music fans out there...

DCMC: The ever-popular true-to-the-music rock band. DCMC stands for "Desperado Crash Mambo Combo", in case you really want to know. Although they're based in Fourside, they like to tour all around the world, especially at the Rio Theatre in Quetzal. There's nothing radically crazy about them (they're not a metal band), but they are completely independent, never needing a record label or even a professional agent to keep them in the market. Unfortunately, Magic, their guitarist, went missing on the first night of the Aurora Mysteria. But they found a super-cool replacement: Violet, a pink-haired lady with surprisingly mad electric guitar skills. The DCMC's popularity received a sharp boost when she came along (and they're the only band that has performed since the aurora started, oddly enough). Other band members include band leader OJ (no, his last name is not Simpson), Baccio on the drums, Shimmy Zmizz on the keyboard, and Lucky on the bass. What a combo!

Candy & Andy: Exceedingly quirky and peppy and ostentatious, this dance duo from Winters really puts their hearts into their performances. They're not really a "band" as they don't play any instruments--all their music is electronic, so they do lots of song and dance instead, and are famous for dressing up in lots of silly costumes. Their songs are light and bubbly and are made with lots of love, bringing true meaning to the term "dance pop". (In terms of real-word music genres, they'd be closer to Eurodance.) Sometimes they hold concerts, but they more commonly perform at clubs, because their music makes people want to dance their cares away. Candy is famous for her squeaky, high-pitched voice and very cute style of dress. Andy is famous for his spiked mohawk and, outside of their performances, his motorcycle skills. They've been trying to gain some popularity in Eagleland, but without much success. They get a better audience in Sunrise and their hometown of Winters, and also on children's TV shows.

Rapstarr: To some people this group's members seem like a joke, sporting backwards red baseball caps and huge star-shaped sunglasses (hence their name). But these bad boys have the sickest rap and hip-hop music around, as least as far as most people are concerned. They are famous for their incredibly syncronised dance moves, while the leader, Mikestarr (all the members' names end in starr), raps and rhymes away, his lips always hidden for some odd reason. Everybody knows when a Rapstarr concert is going on, because their earth-shaking beats can be felt from miles away. They play at only the classiest and most high-scale venues, and their concert tickets often cost a fortune. But TV channels are littered with their music videos. This band rose to stardom in Eagleland, but are beginning to gain popularity in other countries as well, especially Summers.

RPG Do's and Don'ts

Don't
sign up as more than one character. I want to limit the number of main characters without limiting the number of people who can join.

Do give your character a pet if you like, but don't have them travel around with you (unless you list it as your favourite animal that is). A world infested by aliens is not safe for animals. In Earthbound terms, no Boneys allowed. Likewise, don't sign up as a non-human character. We don't want this RPG more complicated than it already is.

Do use the Discussion Thread (once it's up) to ask questions and talk about the RPG in general.

If you're familiar with any of the Earthbound series games, don't introduce any characters from them without asking me first, and don't include them in your character's history. Unless it's a weak enemy or one of the bands listed above. Oh and while we're at it, don't sign up as a canon character. I want originality here.

Do express any ideas you have regarding this RPG, either in the Discussion Thread or by VM/PM.

Signup Form

All right, any of you still interested? Any of you wanna join, even? It's simple! All you have to do is fill out this form here...

Name: This part is self-explanatory.

Age: Again, self-explanatory. Just keep in mind all of us are human. Anything between 8 and 88 is fine.

Gender: Sorry, no its allowed, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Appearance: Describe what your character looks like, including face and hair details, body type, clothing, and accessories. Unusual hair colours are fine, as long as it's a single colour (unless it's dyed). And finally, remember that your character does not wear a laundry list.

Personality: The most important field in this RPG. Describe your character's demeanour, how he or she acts around other people, their quirks and interests... you get the point. But be sure to include their hobbies and interests! And remember, I love detail and quirks! As long as you don't write a long and boring essay. This isn't high school. Oh, and remember that your character does not act skimpy or like a laundry list.

History: Your character may come from any of the countries listed above. This is the place to describe your character's family and background, and the role he or she plays in the world. Remember that your character knows nothing about Saturn Valley or any alternate worlds that have existed before. Be sure to include their reactions to the Aurora Mysteria-induced events as well. Perhaps they had memorable encounters with certain enemies. Perhaps they even know someone who has gone missing. And how did they discover their PSI or other special skills? Be creative here. Oh, and don't include the favourite animal encounter yet--that will happen in your first post in the RPG.

Questionnaire: Besides completing the above fields, you must also answer the following questions for your character. Believe me, these answers will be important in certain parts of the RPG.
- Favourite food: Keep this answer simple--i.e. don't list a complex five-course meal. It must be only one dish. It can even be a dessert or a snack if that's your character's thing.
- Favourite thing: This can be anything, tangible or intangible, as long as it makes your character's heart sing.
- Favourite animal: No dragons or other mythical creatures, please.
*Note: In some people, the above three favourites can overlap (that is, the responses to the above are the same).
- Which musical instrument best represents your character? Not necessarily the one they play. If you don't know what to put, I can probably give you suggestions.
- Is your character PSI-capable? If you answer no, you'll have much more freedom and variety as far as other skills go.

PSI: If your character is PSI-capable, you may pick two PSI techniques that your character can use at the beginning of the RPG (or three for a special case below), and that your character suddenly learned how to use when the Aurora Mysteria first appeared. These techniques MUST be from the above list (you can pick either offensive or non-offensive ones). If you want, you may also describe how they use the techniques, because PSI works slightly differently for every user.

Skills: Or perhaps you'd like to start off with some sort of special skill instead. This may be a general skill or talent, or a set of items. Either way, be careful not to make the skills god-moddingly powerful. PSI-capable characters may choose to learn their PSI later, starting off with a special skill instead. Skills used by PSI-capable characters are weaker than those of non-PSI users, typically consisting of a single gadget or a somewhat useful talent. Characters who don't have a special skill like this can start off with an extra PSI technique (three total) instead.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And here's the character I'll be playing!
Name: Hiroshi "Gon" Tsukimaru
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Appearance: People's first impression of Gon is often that of a calm and happy young teen who just got out of bed, yet has magically tidied up overnight. Because of his height, a meager 4'10" placing him a head or two shorter than most adults, people sometimes think he looks younger than he is. And he still has a somewhat juvenile figure without much definition. But if they look primarily at his face, he might actually seem older. One reason is because of his eyes, narrow and serious-looking rather than big and child-like, and a very dark brown in colour. Another is that he has the beginnings of a moustache, although so far it's only two tiny tufts of hair above the corners of his nearly invisible lips. Oh well, at least it matches his straight jet-black hair, which loosely hangs from his head and just barely covers his ears and the back of his neck. His complexion is of a light yellowish-tan and quite smooth in most places, unless a pimple sneaks its way onto his face that is.
So why the just-out-of bed appearance? It's mainly due to his style of clothing. He certainly doesn't smell like he just got out of bed--in fact he gives off a faint aroma of baby powder. Covering the top half of his body is a black T-shirt made of a very soft material, one comfortable enough to sleep in. He has a bunch of T-shirts like this with various designs on it, but the one he's currently wearing has a yellow five-pointed star with a pair of little black eyes on the front. Gon is so fond of pajama bottoms that he wears them during the day as well. The ones he's currently wearing have a red and black plaid pattern and are tied with a white string at the top. On his feet are white toe socks, with black wide-strapped flip-flops over them. He really does go for comfort.
Because his pants have no pockets, Gon keeps all his stuff in a brown messenger bag slung across his chest. One of the things he keeps in this bag is a maroon pullover sweater with "DCMC" printed in yellow and orange letters across the front. He mostly wears it on chilly nights.
Personality: Gon likes to be the light when all else seems dark and lonely. With a highly optimistic attitude, he works his way through life's problems by looking for the easiest and most convenient way out. He likes to be spontaneous, to not plan things too far in advance. For he knows too well that even the most well-devised plans can change at the last minute. In fact, he likes it when this type of change occurs, and often ends up flaking on other people's plans. Unless he a really good incentive to do so, he will NOT stick to any sort of regular schedule. Truly he believes that life is a boisterous casino, in which everything is ruled by chance and nothing can be predicted.
While it is true that Gon usually gives of an air of being agreeable and complacent, he is easily prone to excitement. Not the crazy, bouncing-off-the-walls kind of excitement, but a more controlled and incredulous response. But he does have a strong tendency to jump or become clumsy when startled. Apparently he doesn't handle nervousness well, for while he likes to speak in a cool and casual fashion, he has a habit of using cool slang terms in the wrong context. Nervousness and embarrassment show very easily in his facial expression and body language--here he shies away from people rather than looking eagerly at them, and talks much faster than when calm. Indeed, when in a social setting, he comes off as more silly than serious, but nice nevertheless.
Although Gon is not too into romance (he's still a little young and immature for that), he is occasionally prone to falling under the spell of a really pretty girl, showing his obvious embarrassment despite his successful prevention of suggestive remarks. In fact, Gon is pretty prone to being led into all sorts of trouble, being quite lax and trusting people too easily most of the time. To get over any problem he encounters, the first thing he does is think of something that's wonderful about it, and hopefully use that to fix the problem. And when he loses a competition, he doesn't pout--instead he compliments the winner (especially the case if the winner makes fun of him) and points out that he's not very experienced. In fact, he takes insults and threats rather well, usually by light-heartedly dismissing them or agreeing with the person ("Yeah, I really need to get my brain examined, don't I?").
And now for the more random stuff! Gon is a bit of a computer geek, already adept with computers and some mobile devices. He enjoys playing video games, as long as they don't contain too much adult material and are not shooters. Books are just not his thing, not even comic books. He prefers the pictures in a story to be animated. But this does not mean he's an otaku. In fact, he enjoys spending time outside. His favourite sport is baseball, which he enjoys casually playing with his peers (not necessarily watching though). But even moreso, he enjoys taking walks around places. Though he likes to listen to music as well, he will never do that while walking, preferring to listen to the sounds of the world in that case. His tastes in music are primarily electronic (especially dance pop), but he also likes rock if it's catchy enough.
History: Gon has always been a city boy. Born in Robot City, Sunrise to two parents who worked the day shift, he frequently had a free hour or two after school on his own. But he never spent those afternoons on his own. He spent them with Ari, his little sister. Together, they enjoyed walking about the city for a while before coming home, visiting parks and marketplaces and maybe sneaking into a movie if they were lucky. Though they both had a good relationship with their parents, they were a little closer to each other than to them, often going off and doing their own thing during family outings.
Though some quarreling is inevitable between siblings, Gon and Ari got along very well together otherwise. They had lots of common interests, especially when it came to their love of electronics. Both of them liked to play with Chi-Chi, the robotic dog the family had as a "pet". They enjoyed watching TV and playing video and board games together, and lots of giggles could be heard when the two appeared together in public. Sure, Gon had a few school friends who came and went, but none of them were as close as his sister, "Mariko-chan" as he sometimes calls her.
Things started to change when the family had to move to Eagleland due to the globalization of the company they worked with. They moved to the city of Discovery, which is sort of near the west coast of Eagleland. Although not as crowded or hip and happening as Robot City, it had overall the same kind of environment as their hometown. However, because the parents were worried about street gangs, they didn't allow Gon and Ari to go off on their own as much anymore. Moreover, while Gon found it pretty easy to adapt to this new place, the opposite was true of Ari. Timid and homesick, she spent most of the time hogging the computer. She did warm up a little over the years, but Gon still felt a sort of disconnect between them, as if this whole move threatened to push them apart. Even when Gon was old enough to not be under adult supervision all the time, he spent more time on his own than with Ari, walking around and doing stuff with his new smart phone.
Then came the Aurora Mysteria. That first night, he was watching TV with his dad when his mum made an excited announcement about these rainbow-coloured lights in the sky. Immediately the whole family (including Chi-Chi, carried in Dad's arms) rushed outside to view this spectacle together. The whole time, Gon smiled. Not necessarily because the aurora was so beautiful, but because he was really happy to be together with everyone--especially Ari, who gave him a little smile right then.
The following day saw Gon taking a lonely walk through town as usual. But when he wandered through the park by the children's museum (looking at that building always made him think of Ari), something tackled behind. His smart phone flew out of his hand and landed in front of him as he fell towards it. But then it beeped, and a voice spoke from it: "Oopsie-Daisy". Initially thinking this was some weird joke someone hacked into his phone, Gon turned around only to find himself face-to-fact with a walking daisy with a face, one about as high as his knee. It gave him a menacing look and whirled its petals around, spraying pollen in Gon's face. Immediately Gon panicked and ran away, sneezing and tearing up from the pollen. Later that day he heard of similar reports of enemies attacking people...
But something else was wrong, as Gon found out after he got home. Ari was missing. Even after two days, there was no sign of her. Gon heard on the news about quite a few disappearances just like this one, but the cause was unknown. At this point Gon started to worry. Where was Ari, and how could he get her back? Well, at least he knew the name of every enemy he encountered, thanks to the new app that mysteriously installed itself on his smart phone. The app came up with some pretty witty names sometimes, he had to admit.
Speaking of the smart phone, that night its screen displayed a picture of a Starman, whose metallic voice made the famous interrupted announcement. What was this world coming to now? Whatever the case, there clearly was an alien invasion taking place, and that probably explained the appearance of all those enemies, not to mention the UFO's that supposedly appeared in the sky the night before. After the announcement got cut off, Gon stared at his smart phone for a few more minutes, wondering what the Starmen wanted and how they could be stopped. He suspected they had some sort of base at the Chupichupyoi Temple, which probably explained the beams of light coming from there. But more importantly, they probably kidnapped Ari as well! How could he get her back though? This he wandered all the way until he fell asleep that night.
But the next morning, everything would change with the arrival of a little visitor...
Questionnaire answers:
- Favourite food: Curry. Medium spicy, with chickpeas and over brown rice. (Yes, if the curry is on top of the rice, it counts as a single dish.)
- Favourite thing: Fireworks. He has fond memories of watching them with Ari by his side.
- Favourite animal: Dragonfly
- Representative musical instrument: The koto, a Japanese string instrument.
- PSI-capable? Yes
PSI: None yet
Skills: Being computer-savvy as he is, Gon's special skills come in the form of apps on his smart phone. Currently he has one app that is useful against enemies: the Creature Index, which has three distinct features. The first one was demonstrated in the History: the phone beeps and says the name of any nearby enemies when Gon approaches them. This app also provides list of all the enemies he has encountered so far, functioning sort of like a Pokedex in that sense.
EARTHBOUND FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And no,I am NOT joining this RPG just because of chuggaconroy!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Seishin-tekina Dengen (everyone calls her Tekina)
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Appearance: Tekina has dark blue eyes, and long midnight blue hair -about 10 to 15 inches- with tied in a golden ribbon. Being 5.3 and having a normal skin tone, it's the hair that mostly signifies she is different. She wears a long robe to a with a golden top part -Similier to a hakama- and silver pants that are connected to the "shirt." Tekina also wears a pair of Japanese sandels in the winter.Other than that, she usually has no shoes at all. The pants also have a bow tied at Tekina's waist.
Personality: Tekina is a kind and elegant person. Her personality was not affected by her reaction to the mysterious aurora, and many people are relieved for that. Around others, Tekina has a strong aura that somehow can attract others, but only sometimes. She loves music, water, and making up songs. However, she is in fact a "miko", so she is serious when it comes to her duties. But she likes music so much, that in her free time, she plays a harp that a friend made for her. BUT, even though she IS kind hearted, she will RAGE if men see her in the hot spring bathing. (nudge nudge, wink wink)
History: The sweetness of a new village in Eagleland was rising among townsfolk. Soon, a young couple-the man called Choro and the woman called Tsuma-decided to make it true. They, along with some other folk and their young daughter Ama-sa, found an unclaimed land and made it Kaishi Village. It was a small village at first, but more people moved in, and it became a prosperus area. Choro and Tsuma worked hard for their little village, and took great care of everyone in it.
Soon, Ama-sa married to a man called Otto, and Tekina was born. At first, she was named Musume, which meant "daughter," but when the aurora gave her strange powers, her name was changed to Seishin-tekina, but everyone would call her Tekina. Since others were affected by the aurora, the young girl wasn't alone. Still, people teased Tekina for being different. But she didn't care what others thought. Tekina was unique,in her own way. Soon, Ama-sa and Otto became the leaders of the village, and Tekina was given a special job. She was entrusted with the sacred village jewel- called Densetsu - when she turned 13. Tekina protects it carefully. In reward for her work, her childhood friend Yujin made and gave the miko a harp. Tekina was very happy, and would play the harp in her freetime.
Questionnaire:
- Favourite food: Sushi
- Favourite thing: Her harp,which she had named Ongaku
- Favourite animal: Horse
- Harp (duh!)
- Yes
PSI: Tekina is capable of using PK Fire. However, instead of just saying PK Fire as an incantation, she shouts "Hi no maho!" when she uses it. As for when she learns the other ones (i'm revealing them now, for the sake of the incantations), the chants are as followed:
PK Freeze- Kori no maho
PK Thunder- Kaminari no maho
PK Wind- Kaze no majikku
PK Ground- Asumajikku
PK Aura- Ora no maho
PK Flash- Furasshu no maho
Lifeup- Seimei no maho
Healing- Iyashino maho
Shield- Shirudo no maho
Paralysis- Mahi no maho
Hypnosis- Saimin majikku
Brainshock- No no maho
Hex- Rokkaku mijikku
@Zekshirom: Glad to see you joined! Interesting character, I might say--she looks like she'd fit perfectly well in Sakura (a town in western Sunrise) even though she's from Eagleland. I like the PSI incantations you came up with! However, for now you are pending, because there are some parts of your signup you need to clarify or expand on.
Your Appearance is pretty decent, though I'd like to see a little more detail on the robe. I'm kind of imagining the top part looking like a hakama, but I'm not entirely sure if that's accurate... And how long is her hair, and is it any special style? How tall is she? ...Things like that.
Personality is okay. And hahaha, I get the hot spring reference--it's fresh in my mind since I'm doing a LP of Mother 3 now. Fortunately for you, I don't think we'll encounter any hot springs in the RPG, except maybe in Saturn Valley.
History is decent, though I would have liked a little more detail. What is Kaishi Village like? More importantly, why did Tekina inherit Densetsu? Were her parents made leaders of the village or something? I'm just guessing, because so far your history is sounding very similar to Poo's.
Oh yeah and speaking of Poo... on to the abilities. Starting off with PK Fire is fine, but I strongly suggest you don't have the sword until later. Japanese swords are very expensive and hard to come by, particularly for an eighteen-year-old girl. But maybe she could obtain it later, maybe after the villagers recognise her heroic potential after we progress in the RPG a bit. And MAYBE the sword could then be related to the Sword of Kings Poo had in Earthbound. Just a thought.
Overall, it's not a bad signup, but I'd like to see you expand on the above things, and definitely get rid of either the PK Fire or the sword. Your signup doesn't have to be as long as mine though--I'm just notorious for making things long...
Yeah, that's something I want to clarify with everyone: if you want a weapon at the beginning of the RPG, it counts as a Skill. Meaning you can't have both it and a PSI technique.
That guy you just made fun of for crying? His mother is dying.
Oh yeah, I just looked at the quote in your signature. This part totally made me think of Lucas. Come to think of it, I'd probably add, "That guy you teased about his crippled leg? His father is already too harsh on him."
Hi GM!Just a "quick" reply. Just now realized how simlier Tekina's history is to the past of Poo (hur hur). Just want to clear the sword stuff up a bit.
Tekina WILL get the sword towards the "big" parts of the RPG. As for the history and apperance, I'll change those.
BTW, I'm supposed to be doing homework right now! YAY FOR SNEAKING ON SEREBII!!!!!!!! XDDD
In the Curve
Name: Louis La’ Ville
Age: 13
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Louis La’ Ville is about as unassuming of a kid as you could find. His skin is a ghostly white, and peppered with the occasional congregation of light brown freckles. His eyes are a bright green and sit on top of high cheekbones. His nose is petit and rounded, but just large enough to support a pair of tiny reading glasses. Louis’ hair is a striking shade of green and comes down in a part both ways, covering his ears and fraying out near the edges of his collar. The thirteen year old’s frame is skinny, languid, and to say plainly, straight up string bean. His arms are spindly affairs and topped with by long and dexterous fingers, which are usually found nervously fiddling with Louis’ hair. Louis wishes that he was taller, but is comfortable at an average height, neither towering over the populace nor being swallowed up by their height. Though you can occasionally find Louis’ smiling, his most present look is that of worry, complete with shifty eyes and shaking hands.
Louis wears a surprisingly fashionable affair. His jacket is striped horizontally in black and white and has a medium sized hood on the back of it. Under this he wears a tight fitting v neck. His corduroys are dark green and cleanly pressed and free of wrinkles or folds. Louis’ feet are always covered by a pair of simple white sport socks and black and white checkered flats. The scaredy-cat keeps his safety blanket in a large black backpack that has room for exactly ten items before becoming impossibly full, no matter if they’re ten cookies or ten hair-dryers.
Personality: Louis is afraid of his own shadow, and in this new world, that may just come in handy. Everything is a potential danger to poor Louis. Those vines lining the trees outside? They could be poisonous for all you know! And that mosquito in the room? It could be carrying Ebola! He is always on the lookout for any thugs or villains in the street, and he makes sure to never look the mailman in the eyes. As a matter of fact, he never really looks anyone in the eyes. You never know with how irrational people can be, one wrong look and suddenly you could end up in a real, honest to goodness fight! Louis would never be able to do that. Fighting just isn’t in his nature. He does all he can to avoid directly confronting enemies or shady characters—which is just about everyone.
That being said, Louis is a very creative individual. He spends a large amount of his time drawing complex and beautiful portraits of the world around him. His artwork is stunning to say the least, but good luck getting him to show you it. He prefers to keep his art to his eyes only and will go to great lengths to avoid others prying eyes while he sketches. It is here, while drawing and etching, that Louis really feels happy. While most things in the day are frightening close calls to death, drawing is a simpler and safer way of probing the world, where everything is creayed by him and all it takes to erase a person you don’t like is the tip of a pencil.
As you might imagine, Louis’ shy nature makes it hard for him to find friends or people to connect with. However, when he has finally let his trust in someone he becomes an invaluable and great friend to have. He will never allow those he trusts to be let down, as long as it doesn’t involve him getting hurt. Because even though he has a great trust in his few friends, he always looks after his own well-being first. A fact that he feels bad for at times, and something that contributes to his overall lack of self-esteem. Don’t be discouraged though! With gentle prodding, and some kind words, Louis can be a wonderful ally.
Zack is an eccentric as well. A small, frightened boy, such as himself, would usually be more associated with gentle lullabies and sad ballads. Zack prefers the pulsing, edgy beats of Rapstarr. He has an extensive collection of their CDs which he has lined up in his room. In his backpack he carries a fuzzy blue blanket, a totem of perceived safety from his childhood. Generally, it can be assumed that he hates most people in hats or trench coats as they are seen by him as being especially dangerous. He has the odd condition sneezing when the sun is shining very brightly and is host to a wide variety of seemingly ever shifting allergies. One day it might be dogs, the next it’s lawnmowers. You never know.
History: Louis hails from the great crowded city of Fourside. He was born as a single child to a pair of hardworking doctor parents. The two, while good-intentioned, never had enough time for poor Louis who quickly became socially inept. He preferred to keep inside where his room was always lighted. At a young age he took up reading. While his parents occasionally tried to push him into participating in sports like baseball, he always refused. To him, the outside streets were a dangerous place and he vowed to never fall victim to the many street gangs that trolled the area of fourside.
Obviously, as his days inside began to bore him, the boy took up the staggering art of drawing. Unlike some kids who simply dabbled in crayons before giving up, Louis approached his art from a more disciplined and careful standpoint. With a few instructional books from the library, and plenty of practice, Louis became one an immensely talented artist. His parents never realized their son’s talent, only musing quickly on his pieces. Because of this he began to see his art as lacking, and took to hiding it from all of society as a result.
Louis’ time in school had never been great, even if he had passed every class with stellar grades, he never found any friends he could hold on to. Most of the kids in his school scared him. Ruffians, vagabonds, thugs who liked playing baseball and soccer never seemed like worthy acquaintances to Louis. This began to culminate into more emotional bouts of depression as Louis’ teachers repeatedly called his parents to see to his son’s recluse nature.This only drove the boy into a further isolation. Quickly, he had become that one kid that no one knew in school, and the one kid no one wanted to talk to.
When the Aurora Mysteria appeared in the sky, Louis was lucky enough to capture the whole thing in pencil. He was fascinated at the lights in the sky and looked forwarded to watching them for the few days they appeared. But then the message from the starmen appeared and everything went to hell. Evil power? The Rainforest? This was just too much. Working himself into a panicked frenzy has allowed him to bring out the PSI in his body and he recognizes that he can make himself dizzy, but doesn’t yet know what it means. Recently, Louis has taken to sleeping under an extra sheet of covers, and with two light-nights plugged into the wall at night.
Questionnaire:
- Favourite food: Ramen Noodles. Best in the most mild flavor availiable.
- Favourite thing: Safety. Plain and simple.
- Favourite animal: Rabbits . Who knew?
- Which musical instrument best represents your character? Flute. Light and unimposing like his character.
- Is your character PSI-capable? Yes!
PSI: Brainshock. Louis’ PSI manifests itself in the form of a small green bolt of lightning that causes enemies to go dizzy and attacks friends and allies alike. As of now, it only occurs in a light, green static shock that succeeds in making Louis discombobulated.
And that's that.
Night Triumphant
Name: Siobhan Gale Montoya (Usually goes by "Gale")
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Appearance: Gale is tall, standing one inch shy of six feet. Her waist-length hair is thick, wavy and black, usually let down or tied in a side-ponytail, with long bangs partially covering the left side of her face, as well as her left eye. Her skin is pale and her eyes are a light blue-gray color. Her face is heart-shaped, with a rather prominent, pointed nose, as well as eyebrows of average thickness and not-so-white teeth. Her body is slim, with ample breasts and long legs, though she is not excessively skinny and waif-like. Her ears have two piercings each and she also has a crescent-shaped stud on her navel. Tattooed on her left shoulder is the Sigil of the Goetian demon Marchosias.
Gale is rather dark when it comes to dressing, avoiding pinks and neon colors at all costs. Her usual outfit consists of a black leather jacket over a cropped black tank top with a laced-up front, a crimson velvet miniskirt with black trim, long black socks that go over her knees and tall, black heeled boots. Black fingerless gloves cover her hands and she often wears a black newsboy hat on her head, except when it is warm. As she is vain and sometimes suffers from back pain, her choice of bag is a black leather shoulder bag with silver studs.
Personality: Gale, though seemingly hostile to some because of her looks, way of dressing and outward coarseness, is really a warm and friendly person, mostly because she feels lonely most of the time, having no living parents. Enjoying her "bad girl" looks, as well as not being very refined and cultured, she acts rather tomboyish compared to most girls, riding a motorcycle, being a smoker and having a rather coarse way of speaking, which can possibly be a turn-off to most. Because of this, she is seen by some as someone to stay away from at first impression. An extrovert, rather loud for a girl, and a bit of a flirt, she enjoys meeting new people, especially guys, though she could rub others the wrong way at times. She is however, more compassionate than she looks. Just as her brother looked after her ever since she was eleven, she is one who truly cares for her friends and looks out for them the best she can, putting them before herself as much as she could, so long as one gives her the chance to be who she is. A loyal person, she is one who'd really stick as a friend. Despite her image, she is a surprisingly good cook, which she often repeatedly denies to those whom she just met.
Gale however, isn't very dignified and is rather accident-prone and often getting into trouble and sticky situations, being a person who doesn't exactly look before she leaps and often getting into things head-on. Trouble often seems to follow her, though she often brushes it off as just "bad luck".Though most do not know this, she is actually claustrophobic. Placing her in a tight space alone can make actually make her cry, which can be comical at times, considering her looks and age. This little-known fact is something she tries to hide, thinking it could ruin how people see her, and as a result, not take her seriously. She is trying to get over it, and is currently showing progress, though it still doesn't take much to make her panic.
Gale absolutely dislikes her first name due to the fact that most people she knows couldn't pronounce it right. She often goes by her middle name due to it being simpler and less likely to be mispronounced. Only her brother is allowed to call her Siobhan.
History: Born in the city of Nieve, in the country Winters, Gale used to have a happier life until the age of eleven. Her family was wealthy, her parents loved her, and she lived without fear. Her father, Vincenzo, being in a high-ranking position in his corporation, was well-liked by most, though he did have a few enemies. Her mother, Maureen, was gentle and loving, spending time with Gale and Pedro as much as she could. The end of Gale's once-happy life came when the plane that her parents were riding when coming back from a vacation in Summers crashed, killing everyone in it. This left Gale and her older brother by ten years, Pedro, orphaned. As Pedro was already twenty-one, he stepped up to take care of his younger sister with the help of the money their father left them.
Though Gale wasn't at the accident, she often experienced nightmares involving the plane crash. The fire, the crushing aircraft, they all haunted her in her dreams. She often woke up in the middle of the night, the images of the burning metal crushing her to death in her mind. As a result of the nightmares, Gale became claustrophobic, and to an extent, pyrophobic. In an effort to help his sister, Pedro introduced the girl to culinary arts. Gale was reluctant at first, much to the cook's amusement. However, she learned slowly with the help of Pedro and the family cook. In time, she lost her fear of fire and became a good cook in her own right, though there still remained her fear of small spaces.
She entered high school at the age of fifteen, where she found herself often getting into trouble, whether academically or among other people, especially Alpha females. As she wasn't exposed to the middle school system, she knew nothing about school hierarchies in females, often messing around them and causing them to dislike her. As a result, most of her friends were either male, geeky or both. She wasn't exactly a well-rounded student, being a borderline case in Math and Literature but rather good in History and of course, Culinary Arts. She however, managed improve and graduated high school after four years. Now a freshman at Reynard University's Culinary Arts course, she managed to enter after a year of earning extra credit at a community college to make her grades match up to the school's standards.
Little did Gale know that her seemingly normal life was about to get stranger. It started with the phenomenon known as the Aurora Mysteria. She was no stranger to aurorae, living in Winters herself. This however, was seemingly more beautiful than any aurora she ever saw. She thought that it was something beautiful, but normal. Boy was she wrong about that. When she went to class the next day, she noticed that her kitchen partner, as well as some others from her class were missing. After another day passed, they did not turn up, and more people failed to show up. And then the message from what seemed to be aliens came. Gale then started to realize that whatever was happening was not as normal as she dismissed it to be.
The worst surprise came the next day, when Pedro mysteriously disappeared, just like the rest of her classmates. Now knowing that something definitely was wrong and she wasn't dreaming or hallucinating, she decided that she somehow had to find Pedro, wherever he was.
Questionnaire:
- Favourite food: Pasta with Shrimp
- Favourite thing: Dark-themed stuff
- Favourite animal: Wolf
- Which musical instrument best represents your character? Electric Guitar
- Is your character PSI-capable? Yes
PSI: PK Wind. A strange pun on her own name, Gale's PSI takes the form of small, silvery gusts the size of her hand that can push others away, though it isn't strong enough to blow someone away as of yet, or confuse enemies for a short time.
Skills: None yet
If I get in, Gale could make for a good "Butt Monkey". XD It's more fun if an adult ends up being the one.
Philosopher Knight
Time to mix things up a little!
Name: Diego Vendrix
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Diego stands at five foot, 9 inches, light olive skin and stout. He has low cheekbones, a boyish face, no facial hair, and wears a pair of glasses that darken themselves in bright sunlight. His hair is black with subtle patches of very dark brown, mainly in the tips. His hair is kept trimmed and neat, however the ends on the back of his head are messy and spiky. He has slightly bigger than average eyes, which are chocolate brown. His eyes are large enough that they are noticeably larger than average, even by a margin amount.
Diego wears a black T-shirt with a gold yingyang symbol on front and a white silhouette of Quetzalcoatl, portrayed as an Ouroboros with the crescent moon and sun in the center of the loop on the back. He has on some black cargo pants and black tennis shoes with a red spiral on them. He completes the ensemble with a gray fleece "M-44 Jacket". He also has a backpack that contains his clockwork tools and other stuff.
Personality
: Diego has a soul of fire. He is a warm and passionate person with an occasion fiery temper and a burning streak for the pursuit for adventure, ideals, truth and romance. He is very empathetic and has a great desire to help people out. Unfortunately, his bluntness and inability to read subtle body language makes him come off of as insensitive. He can also be stubborn, headstrong and sometimes even down right crazy. Beneath this outgoing personality, Diego is a shy and quiet person. He is also a very artistic individual as he will often draw whenever he gets the chance to do so. He is very loyal, but can come on as clingy, especially around girls. He also likes to cook, which helps when he travels around. He seems to have moments of boundless energy and then moments of sudden exhaustion, an up-and-down trend he is wishing to control through meditation. He has his faults, however. Some of these are being blunt, sarcastic, picking fights, laziness and often day-dreaming during certain moments and saying a weird comment afterward. He may also show some malevolent intent or hold grudges for a while. He may even show cruel moments, characterized by a crazed grins and shadows under his eyes.
Perhaps the single largest defining feature of his personality is his dark side. A collection of his lust, wrath, fear and bitterness, this amount of negative emotions followed by his natural abnormal mental state results in an alter ego, a dark side which he simply calls DX. DX is characterized as a sadistic and psychotic, unbound by most rules and his actions can lead to very large consequences. However, most of his desires follow a twisted and darkened version of Diego’s, so he isn’t a complete enemy. DX’s presence also makes most Shadows avoid him as this split mind may lead to unpredictable consequences. Ultimately, Diego is a kind young man who wished to make friends, find love and help protect what he cares for.
History:
Diego was found born in Quetzal. His father was a successful engineer who studied in Robot City and his mom was a stay-at-home housewife. He had lived there for a relatively short time before his baby brother was born and they moved to Eagleland. However, the happy years of his youth came to an abrupt end. His parents and brother were killed in a car crash, an event that traumatized the poor 3-year-old. At the funeral, Diego found a strange man. He found the man was from Winters and was a respected colleague of his dad. Having been orphaned himself, the professor adopted Diego and they went back to Winters, Diego promising to return to Eagleland someday.
Raised by the professor and his wife, a doctor, Diego often found himself in the library of Reynard University. His favorite things to do were drawing, cooking and reading. His favorite things to read were about clockwork machinations and about a concept referred to as PSI. By coincidence, this was the Professor’s current project. However, not everything was all right with Diego’s life. When he started school, he was regarded as being strange and was often ostracized for his eccentric behavior and foreigner appearance. This had an impact on him. This sadness turned to anger when bullies picked on him. While he would ignore the jeers, when the subject got on losing his parents, Diego would snap and begin fighting. Quickly, Diego learned to restrain all of this. Unfortunately, bottling all of his evil thoughts and feelings and combined with the trauma resulted in the birth of the malevolent persona, DX.
At 10, Diego decided to partake in the professor’s experiment involving PSI. However, as the experiment to ‘awaken’ Diego began happening, DX saw this as an opportunity to take over. The clashing of the two led to a massive flux of mental energy and began to lead to malfunction. Diego realized what he had to do. He had gotten control before head-butting the equipment and led to a powerful case of electrocution and sealing away his capability to control PSI. The experiment was marked as inconclusive. The professor and doctor decided to take a leave of absence and headed to Robot City. While there, Diego met the professor’s brother, a clock maker who enjoyed creating contraptions with clockwork. Diego decided to stay in Robot City to finish his schooling. He began looking for inspiration for clockwork devices from many blueprints and sketches, especially from some guy named Vinci. His quirky inventions were interesting to his peers and although they helped him, he was still alone.
The Aurora Mysteria occurred when Diego was now 18. Now working at the clock shop and planning to go back to Eagleland, he saw the aurora appeared in the sky. Diego had felt a bad feeling . He was fascinated at the lights in the sky and looked forwarded to watching them for the few days they appeared. But then the message from the starmen appeared and everything went to hell. Evil power? The Rainforest? Diego realized he needed to go to his homeland. However, the incident began causing migraines. Unknowingly, the PSI he had damaged was leaking out and with improper output, it was hurting him. One time, Diego touched a clockwork device and began running on its own, Diego’s PSI finding an outlet of sorts. While he may never be able to use PSI abilities, the energy he could use to run his inventions. He took what he needed and was getting ready to go.
Questionnaire:
- Favourite food: Pancakes
- Favourite thing: Love
- Favourite animal: Raven
- Which musical instrument best represents your character? Clarinet
- Is your character PSI-capable? No (Due to experiment and choice)
PSI:
None
Skills: Diego’s main skill is complicated and complex clockwork. He can make devices and weapons out of simple clockwork pieces. He has a few items on him. His main weapon is a gauntlet that when wound up, it fires the fist part of the gauntlet like a boxing glove on a spring. The clockwork is powered by the surrounding energy of nature and nearby PSI users. Although unable to use his PSI, he still has ‘a full guage’ that could serve another purpose…
La Melancolie Noir
Oh wow! I didn't expect there to be this many signups! I'm so happy...
Zekshirom: Alright, looks like you fixed everything. There's just one thing left for you to do: remove the sword from your Appearance. Otherwise other people will look at your signup and think you have the sword already. And you really don't want to reveal Tekina getting the sword this early, do you? But I trust you to fix that, so you're accepted.
Daylight: Wow, that's a very interesting character you have there! I'm beginning to wonder if much of Louis' battle style will have something to do with art. One nitpicky thing I noticed is that the last paragraph of your Personality is about someone named Zack. I think you meant Louis, right? But anyway, you're definitely accepted!
*Jean Grey*: Haha, your character sounds very similar to Kumatora, one of the main characters of Mother 3. Tomboyish attitude? Prone to leaping before looking? Lost her parents? PSI capable? Electric guitar? Yup. But that's not a bad thing! You have a unique History and did a good job on both that and the Personality, and I'm glad you decided to take my newly-created PK Wind as a PSI ability. You're accepted. Although, I have three questions. First, who's Carly (mentioned in the first paragraph of History)? Second, what's a butt monkey? I'm not quite familiar with the term. Third, and I hate to ask this, how is Gale's first name pronounced?
coolminun: Aha! Another person who's already familiar with Earthbound! How can I tell? I don't remember mentioning the Bubble Monkey anywhere in my first post here. I dunno if you're familiar with the plot of Mother 3 at all (that game seems to be not as well-known as Earthbound is), but that game (which is the sequel to Earthbound) mentions that the world ended at one point. Since this RPG takes place after the events of Mother 3, most of the Earthbound characters will not exist; they would have died a long time ago. There are a couple of exceptions though, and if you look carefully at the plot you can probably guess one of them. But I digress... You signup looks good so far. Haha, I find it amusing that you picked the orca as your favourite animal, as you'll have to somehow have Kyornik meet one in the morning when this RPG starts. But right now your signup is pending. Why? Because you have too many PSI techniques! You're only allowed one, as I mentioned in the signup form. Fix that and I'll accept you. And also, what is a "psibolt"? You might want to expand on that.
DVB: Yay, it's good to see one of my friends join one of my RPG's... Haha, when I wrote the description of Quetzal, I kept thinking, "Hey, if DVB signs up for this RPG, I bet his character will come from here", mainly because of that design Diego always has on his shirt. Anyway, another interesting character! At first I was going to stop you at the part when Diego undertook the PSI experiments with the Reynard professor. (A lot of people seem to like that university...) But then I learned that he's not even PSI-capable. So I think I'll let it slide. And I think I'm slowly coming up with something that could be linked to DX... Your Skills are very interesting too! I think he'd be an interesting character to have in the party. You're accepted. And I'm just wondering, are you familiar at all with Mother 3? Because the main character of that game (Lucas) happens to also have Love as his favourite thing. I thought that was an interesting coincidence. And no, you don't have to change it. In fact, keep it, please. This will be interesting...
I'll go ahead and add everyone who was accepted to the Character List.
Night Triumphant
Whoops, Carly was a typo. XD I was thinking of my other RP character, Caroline. A butt monkey is the victim of jokes, shameful scenarios that are often hilarious and embarrassing situations. Her first name is pronounced "Shuh-vahn". XD
Massiados
Name: Amos Williamson
Age: 64
Gender: Man
Appearance: Having loved westerns as a young boy, Amos dresses like his favorite movie hero The Unnamed Guy. He wears a burgundy buttoned shirt with dusty gray slacks. The biggest take from his hero is the white cowboy hat and poncho, which is tan with a green and red band around the chest level. He wears brown leather cowboy boots, but they have no spurs. His now gray hair stands out against his coffee bean black skin. He's usually seen wearing a friendly smile or a look of investigation. While reading he puts on a wire-framed pair of glasses.
Personality: Amos is a man of boundless enthusiasm for adventure and learning, especially if the two can be found together. He makes every adventure into a learning experience, and every learning experience into an adventure. He has a tendency to be painfully redundant and likes explaining things people probably already know. He thinks that the more you bring up and idea the more you can over look and observe it for needed changes. This last bit makes it seem like he waffles on issues a lot, but that's just him changing his thoughts on things a little bit at a time. He also likes to quote his favorite movies, and if told to stop he'll say, “there's two types of people in this world, those that quote movies and those that don't.” That would be a take on a movie quote.
While he has gotten mostly positive quirks from his childhood movie heroes, he's also gotten a bad one. Just like the Unnamed Guy he smokes cigarillos, even in his older age and weaker lungs. He claims that he's just as fit as he's been when younger, but he does get out of breath faster than he claims. This hasn't stopped his smoking, and even in places like a lost tomb, secret base, or treasure room he will feel comfortable lighting up.
History: Amos grew up with a love of invention and adventure in the country of Eagleland. He liked the heroes that were not just in it for the experience, but also the knowledge. The fact that his life wasn't an adventure like in the movies didn't bother him because he lived to make life its own adventure. This meant he was the cause of much trouble growing up, with games of “the floor is lava” being tame compared to his game, “I will take all the pillows, mattresses, and sheets to create a lost tomb.” But in the end they encouraged his adventurous creativity, no matter the effort it took to put all of the mattresses and sheets back. He eventually went in to study Archeology like another one of his movie heroes. He was a bit disappointed to find out that archeology digs were only a small part of the job, but he just continued his attitude of making the small things into fun. Later in life he became a collage professor on the subject, making it his goal to make it as fun for the students as he made it for himself.
With the happening of the Aurora Mysteria and it's connection to a lost jungle temple Amos couldn't help but make an official leave from his collage to go off in search of it. For all his life he's made things an adventure, and now a real adventure with lost tombs, aliens, and danger to the world has been handed to him on a silver plate. Wearing the get up of one of his favorite heroes, he will make the most out of this adventure and see it to the end.
Questionnaire:
- Favourite food: Beef Jerky
- Favourite thing: Educational adventure
- Favourite animal: Horses
- Which musical instrument best represents your character? Harmonica
- Is your character PSI-capable? No
Skills: Not only is Amos an explorer, he's also an inventor. His Adventure Gear are all of his making, and help him get through thick and thin. These devices include:
- Grappling hook A four pronged hook on a rope, used for climbing and pulling things too him.
- Rocket GunX2 Sometimes adventure gets dangerous. That's when you shoot a small rocket from a single load handgun.
- Bull whip The tried and true weapon of adventuring archeologists everywhere.
- Investigation kit A magnifying glass, brush, hammer, and chisel. Used to get a close look at things and take them out of stone.
- Net If something's after you, toss a net at it! The corners are weighted.
Inventory:
- Rocket Gun x2
- Bullwhip
- Investigation kit (Magnifying glass, brush, hammer, and chisel.)
- Net
- Calorie Mate meal bars x10
- Pack of Beef Jerky
- Water filter
- Water skin
Wait... so after Mother 3, Kumatora and Duster joined DCMC? Cool! I don't care if it's for the sake of the RP, that's awesome. I'm determined to finish my sign up now. *fist pump*
