THE WORLD
According to legend, mankind was born from dust into a hostile world. Humanity was created by two god brothers, the gods of Light and Darkness, who lived alongside us before mysteriously vanishing, leaving the world as a mere remnant of what it once was. The reasons why they left is unknown to most, as the history of that time has long since been forgotten, with recollections being passed down in the form of myths and legends. One such legend tells of extraordinarily powerful warriors with silver eyes were feared by the Grimm and could strike down their foes with a single look.
In the world of Remnant, all living creatures possess a soul, the physical manifestation of which is known as Aura: a form of innate energy that bestows its user with certain abilities and powers. Unique expressions of these abilities which are specific to individuals are known as Semblances. Remnant is populated by two intelligent species - Humanity and Faunus, a race of Human-animal hybrids. For as long as can be remembered, humanity has been preyed on by the creatures of Grimm, beings of darkness who lack a soul (and by extension Aura), and who seek to wipe us out. For years we struggled to hold back the numbers of Grimm until we discovered a power that would help them combat the forces of darkness. Humanity would name their newly discovered power, Dust, after that from which they were formed. Armed with Dust, described as "Nature's Wrath", mankind was able to turn the tide against the Grimm.
With humanity finally able to take a stand against the Grimm, mankind was able to build a civilization and spread throughout the world. The mining of Dust would continue to be a major industry, leading to the rise of large enterprises.
However, having survived the Grimm menace, Humanity began to turn against itself, spiralling into a series of self-destructive conflicts. The largest of these was the Great War, fought over issues of individualism and self-expression. Conflict also arose between the Humans and the subjugated Faunus, eventually sparking the Faunus Rights Revolution.
In the current day, most people live within the four Kingdoms - Vale, Mistral, Atlas and Vacuo. Through a combination of Human tenacity and the use of natural barriers, these settlements managed to survive and are regarded as "safe havens" and "beacons of hope" for Humanity. Small villages and nomadic communities do exist outside of the territories of the main Kingdoms, though they are noted as being far more vulnerable to Grimm attacks. This serves to emphasize that Remnant is not a particularly welcoming world to Humans and Faunus.
Following the Great War, Huntsman Academies, such as Beacon Academy, were created to train Huntsmen and Huntresses, warriors whose sole purpose was to combat the Grimm using a combination of powerful weapons, Aura and Dust. In doing so, they protect those who cannot protect themselves from the dangers of Remnant.
THE RP
And that is where you come in! In this RP, you will be playing as students at Haven Academy, one of the schools created with the purpose of training the future generation of Huntsmen and Huntresses.
Some knowledge of the show would be recommended to understand what is going on, but as this RP takes place at least 40 years before the show, it isn’t necessary to be up to date with what is going on.
You are currently returning for your second year at the academy and will be rejoining your teammates and classmates for the school year. The year prior you were sorted into a team of four, having gone through an initiation ceremony, so will likely be friends with anyone on your team. The purpose of teams is to teach teamwork and empathy and to forge lasting bonds between members. Teams stay together for the four-year duration of their training at their Academy.
Now that you are in your second year, you and your team will finally be able to take on higher-risk missions, alongside your standard learning syllabus. The story of this RP will follow two teams as they complete missions, not knowing they are about to uncover something huge.

THINGS TO KNOW
Aura & Semblances - Aura is the manifestation of one's soul, and can be used for a wide range of abilities. The specific abilities and their strengths differ from individual to individual and are dependent on a number of factors, such as experience, training, and innate skill. Skilled users of Aura can create their own barriers or even increase their own abilities in some way. Weapons and armour can also act as a conduit for Aura, allowing for an even wider range of offensive and defensive capabilities. Aura is a necessary energy source for all Huntsmen, being a powerful ally in battle. It can be used in the following techniques: Defense, Offense, Healing, Extrasensory Perception, and Climate protection.
When in use, Aura appears as a light glow around the body and takes on the colour of one’s inner energy. When struck hard enough, one’s aura will flare around that area of the body. Continual usage of Aura, will eventually drain it, and when depleted leaves you vulnerable for serious damage. When close to breaking, Aura will appear to flicker across the body, and when it does eventually break, will flicker once before disappearing, scattering like dust in the air.
A semblance is an Aura depleting power or ability unique to one's appearance and characteristics, thus meaning no one person, in the world of Remnant, will have the exact same power unless you are of the same bloodline, though it is possible for people to have semblances of similar nature. Obtaining a semblance means discovering an aura and either going through a trial of mental, physical, and emotional state or through genetics and bloodline. Using one's unique semblance will deplete one's life force, or aura, meaning it becomes harder and harder to use after every time. Of course, one's aura can be regenerated with food and rest.
Not everyone training to be a huntsman or huntress is in possession of a semblance, though it is expected that they have unlocked their Aura prior to training.
Allusion - Whilst not acknowledged in-universe, all characters have an allusion. Most allusions in the show are related to Fairy Tales, but they can also branch out to historical and mythological figures. These allusions can tie into character backstories or plot events that will happen to them in the future.
Dust - Dust is known as a naturally occurring, crystallized energy propellant triggered by the Aura of Humans and Faunus. Dust can be found in two distinct states, crystalline and powdered. Dust, whether crystalline or powdered, is highly explosive. Dust serves as a power source for the majority of technology in Remnant, from airships to androids, though some alternative technologies do exist. Technology powered by dust is said to glow. The discovery of Dust was instrumental to humanity's initial defeat of the Grimm, and Dust continues to be used extensively in combat. Methods of using raw Dust include weaving it into clothing, fusing Dust with oneself, forging a blade imbued with Dust and inserting Dust crystals or powder into one's weapon. Dust comes in a variety of types, the most common being the following: Fire, Electric, Combustion, Ice, Gravity, Hard-Light, Plant, Rock, Steam, Water, and Wind.
Colour Naming Rule - The Color Naming Rule is a set of guidelines that define how characters in the world of RWBY are named. The rules state that the names of characters in RWBY must live up to at least one of the following requirements: be a colour, sound like a colour, mean a colour, or makes people think of a colour.
Faunus - Faunus are one of two sentient races on Remnant alongside Humans. Faunus are similar to Humans, except for the fact that they share certain traits with animals. Some types of Faunus are more common than others, with some being extremely rare. Faunus with mammalian traits, in general, seem to be quite common. Faunus can only have one single physical trait in common with their animal.
THE WORLD OF REMNANT
The entirety of this RP takes place in Mistral, but for reference in posts, as well as your characters’ backstories, you may wish to familiarise yourself with all of the four kingdoms.
Vale is one of the four Kingdoms of Remnant, located on the eastern end of the continent of Sanus, to the east of Vacuo and is considered a safe haven from the Grimm. Like the other three kingdoms, Vale is governed by a ruling council to represent and see to its people's needs. Vale is a very temperate region and has varied geographic regions.
Its capital is Vale.
Vale is inspired by European cultures.

Vacuo is one of the four Kingdoms of Remnant, located on the western end of the continent of Sanus, to the west of Vale.
Vacuo is located in the centre of a desert, and as such living conditions in this kingdom are harsh and often inhospitable. Vacuo has very few permanent settlements. Most villages are nomadic and are named after the tribe that originally settled them.

RULES
- All standard forum rules apply.
- Please, no bunnying/god-modding without permission. I will allow you to do it to my characters, but only in response to non-violent interactions, and nothing that would seem out of character.
- Post as often as you can! I know most people have their own thing going on in their personal lives, but this is one of those RPs that is fun if you keep up with it.
- Swearing is allowed as this is rated 'M, but please don't abuse it. I know some characters will swear, just don't use it as an excuse to have them swear in every sentence.
- Also, and I can't stress this enough, please make it appear realistic during fight scenes. I know that since there are powers involved, it isn't going to be exactly identical to real life, but don't make it so you character gets punched and is barely affected by it.
- Don't ask for multiple characters.
- If you're going to be away for a period of time, please let me know in advance.

Name:
Athena Wells
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Species: Human (Current holder of the Spring Maiden powers)
Allusion: Athena
Aura colour: Aquamarine
Semblance: Clarity - Athena’s speed, strength, and overall endurance gets a boost from the calmness of herself. This allows her to deliver stronger hits, move faster and appears to allow her Aura to hold out for longer. It is unclear to even Athena herself whether her semblance impacts her Maiden powers).
Weapon(s): Panathenaia ~ A single-form Xiphos. A small Dust crystal can be placed in the hilt, for enhanced attacks. Athena has a preference for fire, electric, and ice dust.
Pamboeotia ~ A throwable shield. Has a spiked form for more damage.
Appearance:
Athena is a young woman of slightly above average height, standing at roughly 5’6’’. She is of a healthy weight and possesses a fit and toned body, thanks to her training. Her skin is light brown in tone, and blemish-free save for a healed scar across her right eye. Athena has wavy dark brown - almost black - coloured hair, which she styles in a neat bob that comes to just above her shoulders. She also wears a single-braid to the left of her head. To many people, she is considered plain but pretty, the most striking of her creatures being her aqua blue eyes, which instantly draw the eye to them thanks to their contrast with her darker complexion and hair.
For her combat outfit, Athena wears a sleeveless, high-necked dark blue ruffle dress. It is lighter blue around the neck of the collar. She wears a black leather overskirt at the bottom of her dress, which is finished with a light blue trim. Over the top of this, she wears a black bolero with blue trim and also wears a silver armour corset. Athena covers her legs with blue-black leggings and also wears just below the knee boots with lighter blue trim style in Mistral fashion. Athena also wears a pair of fingerless gloves.
For her casual outfit, Athena wears a high-necked top, much like her dress for her combat outfit. The difference is that it is black, as opposed to dark blue; it is also long-sleeved and exposes her midriff. She pairs this with black trousers and a blue belt, and a faux fur-trimmed jacket. Athena tends to wear a bit of make-up with her casual clothes, primarily a light blue eyeshadow, and neutral lipgloss.
Like all students, Athena wears the typical student uniform when at the Academy.
Personality: Athena is an intelligent, studious young woman, much different from her more rambunctious classmates. She enjoys learning, and expanding her knowledge, and whilst not a perfect student, always seems to do well in lessons. By no means shy, Athena has no qualms about standing up for what she believes is right, and will happily voice her opinion on matters. Despite this, she’s intuitive enough to know when its better to remain silent. She’s not the sort to enforce rules all the time, but she has a certain set of standards she abides by, and won’t hesitate to try and reign her teammates or classmates in if she feels they’re getting out of hand. At times this often seen her dubbed as “mean” or “bossy”, but she means well and is generally well-liked.
As a Maiden, is used to the burden of responsibility, but sometimes struggles to deal with the gravity of what that all means for her. Due to the secretive nature of the Maidens, she cannot open up to many of whom she cares for, as they do not know her secret. As such, she can at times struggle to express how she’s feeling, and will often shrug off her concerns or fears with light-hearted remarks. Although Athena carries a big secret herself, she is not fond of keeping secrets from those she cares about, even if said secrets might hurt them.
History: Originally born in Vacuo, Athena was raised there for the first five years of her life until the untimely death of her parents, after which she moved to Mistral to live with her godmother, future headmaster, Iolanthe Namar.
The daughter of two huntsmen herself, and raised by a huntress-turned teacher, it was inevitable Athena would latch onto that lifestyle and take an interest in it from a young age. It took many years for Iolanthe to take her seriously, however. Not out of malice, but because her goddaughter had many other future career choices she was interested in, including at various stages: a painter, a doctor, a baker, and a chemist. Eventually, Iolanthe came to see she was truly invested in wanting to become a huntress.
Unlike many trainee huntsmen, Athena did not attend a primary combat school prior to joining Haven Academy. Or at least, did not finish her education there. No, it would seem fate had other things in mind. Not long after Athena was enrolled, the previous Spring Maiden was fatally wounded on a mission, and through a twist of fate, Athena wound up inheriting the powers. Through the efforts of Iolanthe, she was quietly removed out of the school, in order for her safety and protection. Iolanthe continued to train her privately when she could, but she did not truly know how to handle Athena’s newfound powers.
In the end, Athena found herself acquainted with a mysterious friend of Iolanthe’s, named Osmanthus. Though he revealed that he was also known as the “Inquisitor” by some. He was able to teach Athena more about what being a Maiden entailed, the responsibilities and duties she would have now, as well as the dangers. He could not teach her how to truly use her powers but could offer advice, and it was down to Athena to master them on her own over time.
Two years ago, Athena expressed a desire to return to school and wrap up her education to become a fully licensed huntress. Naturally, this was a concern for Iolanthe and Osmanthus, but they eventually consented for her to join Haven Academy, on the condition that she keep her Maiden powers hidden, and engage in at least four hours training outside of normal school hours to continue to hone her Maiden powers. Athena agreed, and shortly after was enrolled to Haven.
Other: - As the Spring Maiden, she has access to a unique range of magical abilities including, levitation, control over the elements, and the ability to create weapons from the elements.
- Other than Iolanthe and a few senior members of Haven staff, no-one knows about her Maiden powers
- Athena identifies as bisexual
- Athena is ambidextrous but favours her left hand
