Here we talk about all the edits the pokemon anime has gone through before reaching the non-Japanese TV.

I have a question: how come most parts where someone is physically hit by someone else are cut and replaced with stars?

Clearly we're great!
In the US it has to do with the FCC, who regulate what can be shown in shows of certain ratings. They're notoriously anal about kids shows, and always underestimate what they think kids should see.

True, but it is better to underestimate than overestimate in this case.

First one I recall was an edit of Misty slapping Ash in the first episode, there was no stars however. ;025;

They simply cut out the scene and froze a frame for a bit. >_>

Sometimes, it's usually just 4Kids. I highly doubt the FCC had anything to do with the recent editing of Pokemon battles. o_O

I'm sure most of it is 4kids's fault, seeing as Ren and Stimpy was about ten times worse content-wise n' all. >>

Although, I think the FCC changed their policies in 2001 (*COUGH*TERRORISTATTACKS*COUGH*), which made them even more unbelievably stupid on how things should be shown on television. D:

That's why Canadian TV wins. (How I wish I lived in Canada...)

Hell, some of the edits seen in the US version aren't even in the UK version. o_O This is generally the fault of KidsWB. But if you find an edit that appears in both, then that's 4Kids' doing. So far, it seems the hitting edits are in both.

Ren & Stimpy, IIRC, was given a TV-Y7 rating, while Pokemon only has a TV-Y rating.

True, but there's no reason why Pokemon can't be TV-Y7...

4Kids doesn't decide what ratings a show is given; that's Kids' WB!'s job. If the network tells them they have to edit the show down to a TV-Y level, then they have to edit the show down to a TV-Y level, end of story.

Its not like the Japanese version is exactly TV-MA either. The uncut version could probably pull off a TV-Y as well, Y-7 at the most. I don't see the need for censorship on the show considering the fact that its always, American, German, French, Japanese or whatever, been aimed towards children

But once this season is over and Pokemon moves, will the new host channel stick with TV-Y or will it move to TV-Y7? And if it dose decide to go with TV-Y7 what will that mean on both the editing and the audience fronts? ;025;

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
Does it matter if CN gives it a TV-Y7 rating? The content is exactly the same, it's not like the future Japanese episodes have any "content" worth editing.

The real test will be to see if the D/P saga starts getting more suggestive with battles and or sexual innuendo, because 4kids is gone and Pokemon won't be on Saturday mornings anymore...

It's obvious that you have never watched an anime besides Pokemon before. XD

Geki once again fails hard. Not all anime use impact stars. e_e

I highly doubt that would happen. I'm sure a bunch of soccer moms wouldn't want their 7 year olds who watch this show see Ash making out with May. I would but they don't care about us, they care about the MAJORITY of the fans, which are youngsters. I may be wrong or not getting you properly.

Actually it does. There are several edits on WB that aren't on CN. Two that come to mind is Jessie's daydream of being surrounded by young men was replaced with just her talking in "Pokemon Scent-sation" and the traditional Japanese dance hall music in "Espeon Not Included" was replaced by the song from the first movie contract. Oh yeah, on CN Snap was called by his real name while WB called him Todd.

One can hope at least battle wise. And I'd like the science fiction aspect of season 1 to return.

This is the pokemon anime discussion, so we'll talk about the pokemon anime.

Nobody has answered my question. I stilll don't understand why the hits are replaced with stars. Anyone care to explain?
